PLX can play, though, definitely - he has good command of/and decent lead technique

I don't get most of his clips, though, musically

it sounds like alot of "meh" ideas, with a really good riff or chord progression once in a while, at least to me

I respect the hustle recording and posting all the clips but I think he'd be better served spending more time arranging and focusing his ideas instead of noodling. There's some really cool things sprinkled here and there but it's never really polished as a cohesive idea

His recordings sound like they're recorded well, and with good technique on getting the sounds

Similarly, Chugg can play rhythm well

but has riff-salad itis where it sounds like he bolts a bunch of ideas that barely work together, and never lets anything repeat or breathe enough for it to have any impact

if you're going for that tech-death style of 140 riffs a song, you have to milk a theme even if you're changing the riffs constantly to make anything stick - otherwise it sounds like a pre-demo "riff tape"

like where you're playing all the riffs you have of a specific key and tempo, with a generic drumbeat, to see if you can arrange them and make them fit together

If you don't spend time on how the riffs evolve and coalesce, and arrange them carefully, it ends up not sounding like an actual song with an idea
Yeah. I am pretty over the boomer leads, but my point is more about the trolling style. It is heavy handed but boring. No creativity, no humor. Idk. Maybe it would make more sense if i meet him in person. I hear he lives just down the road from me

I don't mind it, plx is funny sometimes for sure

"Guitar forums" where no one can play guitar make me sad.

Well, TGP makes everyone sad PLX

but that's reason number 5 or 6 down the list

after the tan pants, bad taste in music, bad taste in gear, etc

You arent wrong. He has said some funny things. Just not lately,.i guess.

Did you fire 🔥 up that amp yet, bud?

Yeah it sounds good and is still working after 1 whole day

I'm not quite a believer in Peavey craftsmanship yet though, it will take more than one whole day of the amp working

It's a lot easier to woodshed lead stuff on that compared to my hiwatt kit thats for sure - even with pedals its the most unforgiving thing i've ever plugged into

Anyways, here's "Brick Shithouse" ..

 🤏 🚬

Nice, I’ve been eyeing a Peavey 6505, really need a 5150 style amp.

Need it like a hole in the head, but that is one of the classic tones for metal.

Post some clips.

When I get a chance, sure

It probably will be a couple days

What exactly is it you want to hear?

There's tons of 1992 clips around

Can never have too many clips. Something high gain but unboosted would be nice.

Maybe the 1992 is different from the Block Logo, but in my experience with many Block Logos, you can ‘just’ get away without boosting Red channel, but green channel must be boosted to retain some sort of tightness.

Dan would know better as he has the 1992, which I’ve never heard or played through…

The 1992 is an almost exact sounding replica of a block letter IMO, that's why i got one in the first place

And yes, you can just get away without boosting the red channel, but the green channel needs a boost or else its flubby

Just like a block letter

I concur, they are 95% the same. I have a block letter and my friend has the new 1992. His sounded that last 5% better honestly because it had more livelyness to both of our ears. Most likely due to his being brand new and the aging parts in mine if I had to guess. I had all new fresh tubes loaded in mine at the time as well btw. Either way, they were still pretty much exact. I'll always love and have a soft spot for this amp.

My buddy has an original block letter with brand new tubes and a couple of electrolytics replaced to get it to full health; the 1992 sounded exactly like it.

Honestly it's one of the few things peavey has gotten right recently; it's literally an exact copy of a block letter, that costs a reasonable amount, nothing more, nothing less :dunno:

Here we are, the mini tower of clean and mean
