New 212 cabinet?

They do make a USA version of the 112 and 212 that are larger.

Anyway, I am thinking either an Egnater/Mojo cab or a Stone Age 212C cab.

What do you guys think about a versatile speaker set? I was thinking 65 watt Scumback m75 or Celestion V30s. Classic rock to heavy.

I would recommend mixing a set of M75 / H75 scumbacks and ditching the V30s :) Jim @ Scumback says that combo is really killer!

The TM 2x12 is our USA 2x12. The difference is the removable back. No real weight change having it or not. You are crazy to spend the upcharge for our other cabs. Unless as we also understand you need it to be USA made and we can respect that!

There has to be some weight change, with the internal wood it took to create the frame for the removable back. But the cab is solid for sure! Only beef I have with it compared to the Mojo cabs, are the screws in it. They are easy to strip. I spend the 8-10 dollars to replace them with good ones from Ace Hardware. The wood and the rest of the construction is top notch.

Cool shit. I am probably going to pick up a TM 2X12 cab soon. Eric what are those Scumbacks you metioned based on? Which Celestions would be similar to those?

The M75 is like one of the best Greenback type speakers ever. Listen to Peter Thorns clips on Dave Friedman's forum (Hairy Brown Eye, Brown Eye, and Custom 45. The H75 is like a H30, but better!

Check out Jim's website...it has a TON of clips and is VERY helpful. I have a few of his speakers, and I'm super impressed with all of them so far.

Thanks guys,

I just like thick, full tone that is big sounding not small. It is hard to find in a 212. I like my Buzzbomb but think I might prefer something else.

I really hate spending loads of money on a cabinet and a412 is a pain in the ass with us on the third floor. I like the thicker wood used by the Stone Age cabs. Looks like the Egnater TM 212 has a thinner wood? Does that make a big difference? Look at the Stone Age 212C.

Also, Eric...I'll have to check with you on which screws to change if and when I get one plus I heard about upgraded casters? I hate chinsy caster - need to be rugged.

Finally, someone mentioned a way to get the TM212 really cheap at Guitar Center. Something about Music 123 and a code?

Eric, thanks for the speaker ideas. M75 / H75 scumbacks or the Celestion CL80/T75 combo.
Eric, which is the combo you found to be best? Was this cab you put next to your EC at rehearsal that sounded so big? Avatar also has the pre broken in Helltones.

You guys heard or Madison cabs? Man, their 212 is a friggin monster! Huge with speakers on an angle top to bottom rather than side to side.

Thanks!
Rich

Two TM 212s side by side sound like a monstrous 412 just saying :D

SHUT UP! I am not listening...LALALALA...

We live on the third floor so lugging crap around sucks. Just need a big sounding 212.

The casters in the TM are great. I really like them. I wouldn't change them at all until the broke!! I changed all the screws holding down the speakers and back panels to higher grade ones. As for speakers, for cost sake, I'd do the CL80 / G12T75 combo in that cab. Probably one of my favorite combos for all types of music in that cab. They are FRIGGIN HUGE sounding for sure!!! I put the TM212 next to my Avatar 2x12, Ear Candy Buzzbomb and my Marshall 4x12, and the TM212 w/ CL80's and G12T75s beat them all hands down.

The hellatones are okay...but not great. If you like V30s, they're good, but I don't like V30s honestly. The Scumbacks are really good though, just expensive.

The TM212 is one of the best 2x12s I have played to date honestly. I have no GAS for 2x12 anymore. Only thing I'd do, is have Mojotone make me one that was meant to be a sealed cab, but for the cash, the TM 212's can't be beat.

Watch Musicians Friend, Music 123, and Guitar center for sales. I got my TM for like 15% off the normal price around christmas because of all the sales. Same with my Eggie 4x12. Both cabs are awesome! Only cab I know I want to get, is another custom Mojo 1x12. I really like my custom Mojo 1x12, and want another one so I can use with my VHT 2/90/2 rig. That way I could do 2-1x12s at a gig If I want. I probably won't ever do that, but want the option. Secondly It would allow me to do a W/D/W rig with my Mod50.

Eric

You guys rock! Thanks Eric. I think I may sell the BB and get the TM. i have an EC Boa as a second cab anyway.

Why a sealed cab? Any is basically sealed once close. right?

Eric, those Mojo 1X12 cabs are great. I have one that I keep for practice and super small stages. When we did our CD release party gig I played it through the 1X12. It sounded so good miced up it was unreal. 25" wide so it fits a MOD 50 on top and doesn't look dorky.

I really like my Mojo 1x12. One disclaimer, mine isn't the oversized one with a port. It's nearly the same dimensions, but it is a sealed cabinet. It's the exact width of my Mod 50 1x12 combo, and like 12-13" deep.

The Mod50 1x12 combo and this sealed (non ported) cab is awesome!! Same tolex / grill cloth as my other Eggie stuff.

Do you have a preference - Egnater 1x12 sealed or ported?

I prefer a sealed 1x12 as long as it's a bit oversized. If i was using something the size of the Rebel 1x12, I'd probably want a small port on it. I didn't care for the oversized eggie 1x12 with the port though. I liked it, but it was a bit too much low end for my taste. I thought a sealed 1x12 or a sealed 2x12 was punchier.

I really want the balance of the tone and the thump so I might seriously consider an Egnater 412B cabinet. We live on the third floor of a condo complex so carrying it up the steps sucks but we are buying a single home in about a year so I only have a year of lugging it up and down. I am just afraid I'll miss the thump with the 212 unless our bassist can make up that end of it.

I wouldn't do that. I'd save up the extra money and buy TWO 2x12's. It's been my experience that two 2x12's is better than a single 4x12, for a multitude of reasons. Better stereo or wider/bigger mono imaging. Less phase issues. Smaller cab and lighter weight means much better portability. Having the ability to only use cab one on smaller gigs.

It's a no brainer..
