New Faces? Why are You Here?

I was on here for years going way back but I couldn’t get into my old account no matter what I tried. So I just made a new one.

My name is Phil and I like Les Pauls.

Welcome "back" Phil.

I remember approving your account earlier today. IIRC there was a new email address, no? If I'm right, that one actually showed up on a spam list, but I approved you anyway 'cause you seemed "legit".

Don't prove me wrong bro'.

I had actually signed up a week or 2 ago with my **********@live.com (Microsoft) e-mail that I usually use, but the confirmation never came despite several attempts. Finally today I switched to my gmail and I got the confirmation immediately.

Feel free to PM me about the spam list … sounds odd and I wonder if my old account got hacked or deleted and I never knew. I can’t find any old posts.

Yeah, that's the only concern I had - that someone had taken over your account and changed the email address to something that showed up in a list.

Don't worry about it bro'. The other mods tended to reject anyone who showed up on a list. I've hopefully changed their opinions on that 'cause my M.O. seems to have worked thus-far (I haven't let a single spammer through yet touch wood). I take everything I have access to into account and the spammer lists are just 1 component.

In fact, I conducted a check on my own IP addresses recently (the last 6 used by my VPN, which is set to the city I live in) and whaddayaknow, I showed up on 2 lists.

Also, bear in mind that you don't have to do anything to be removed from a list. Typically if you're not flagged for a 7-day period you're dropped.

Cool, thanks.

I guess it just seems weird because I was on here for years - I’d guess I joined around 2008 or 2009. I was probably “Phil M.” or “Phil M” but I didn’t find that user. It seems I got deleted for some reason. Def not a spammer / scammer so, like you said, who knows what happened.

Got into tube amps a few years ago. I would google questions. A lot of times wind up on this page. Folks seem knowledgeable. Forum still seems fairly active. Before I get new gear I like to see what comments are and this is a good tool.

And it seems like besides the occasional big issue between folks or amp makers that detract. You can stay on topic.

... or not... as long as we come back to it, just like IRL.

It irks me somewhat when boards get all anal about it and micromanage the life / fun out of threads.
Yeah I could have been more clear there. I'm not looking for a group that makes me feel like I'm at work running meetings and an agenda. What I have seen seems good. And even the worst derailed threads I saw (I went down a rabbit hole). Every 6-8 comments between those folks you would still see people commenting on guitar topics not the drama.

It seems good here is what I'm saying.

Glad you can see past the "normal" stuff that some forums get their panties in a knott about mate.
