Almost a sig-worthy quote, but the album was called Signals.
Signals, Subdivision, Syphilis X-1...whatever. They should have titled it "We shot our wad on Moving Pictures"

Plenty of rap and turds on the Roll the Bones album.

Funny, I see a lot of people criticizing RtB and that's THE album that got me into Rush for a short period of time in my formative years, even though that rush   didn't last long.

And to be honest only in the last year or so (with the "help" of our sound guy and bass player ;)) I've learned more of the awesomeness called Rush.

Speaking of the new album, a mate of mine did the same thing, dld the album already and gave me some sort of review and I'm afraid he didn't like it as much as the op  . I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and just buy the album and decide for myself.
Is that a Klingon playing a Strat in your avatar? :D

  haha! Yeah, the Finnish Klingon family branch, that's me  .

The pink bandanna's there to turn the attention away from the hairline that seems to be deserting my forehead by the minute ;).

The last Rush album I purchased was Moving Pictures, as was the last Rush tour I ever attended. Neal got the bright idea of turning the band into The Police - and that as they say was that. I did purchase Subdivisions - but it ended-up getting used as a coke mirror.

This is what makes Rush the powerhouse that they are. They have the '74-'81 diehards and they have the more synth friendly '82-'89 era and beyond diehards. The fact that many fans are as passionate about Signals & Power Windows as many fans are about 2112 & Hemispheres speaks volumes about their catalog.

They also have a ton of all era fans like myself who love 90% of everything from '74 till now.

No other band in history with such a diverse catalog of 20 studio albums, that only ever wrote/recorded exactly what they were into at the time regardless of what fans/critics or record companies expected, wanted or would prefer them to do. Total musicians/composers first and foremost.

No Rock Star Bullshit.

Untouchable band, all basically 60 years old, still selling out arenas around the world with their quirky un-radio friendly tunes.

Undeniable talent
Undeniable success
Undeniable staying power

Should we really trust an assessment of the new Rush album by somebody with the handle of BYTOR? :poke: :D

Still waiting for their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...

Fuck that place, better to be left out of that shithole.

I was given the name Bytor at birth. What's the problem??

I like Rush but I'm not a huge die hard fan. I really like the new one a lot!

i'm glad to hear people are liking it. I haven't heard it yet, but I'm an old school Rush guy and it seems like the last five or six releases have been promoted as "we've returned to the simpler, heavier, progressive past with less keyboards"....and I'm always disappointed.

Are the guitars mixed super heavy and clipped like everything else these days.

I heard 3 songs and it kicks ass!!! It is about time they ditched the stupid keys and decided to rock again!!!   Is it a masterpiece? I would not say so from what I heard, but I have not heard the whole CD.

1st Rush album is the best! The rest (up to MP) are good also.

Nice! I really do hope it is, but I've been a bit of a doubter for a while now. I saw them on the last tour and heard two songs from Clockword Angels. Sounded alright, but I don't remember being blown away. The last two studio albums (Feedback and Snakes and Arrows) really NEVER get played at my house. So I'm hoping CA sounds better. I was all set to go out and grab it last Tuesday when I found out they'd delayed the release. What happened there?

WTH??? I''ve been a Rush fan (always been my favorite band) since the 70s and don't think I've EVER heard someone proclaim that the first album was "best". At least not a true Rush fan!

Anyways... to each his or her own I guess. My faves have always been Moving Pictures and Exist Stage Left. But I do like most of the ones that came before and after.

Amen! The REAL honor comes from NOT being in that dump. Seriously... would being inducted AFTER the likes of Run DMC, etc really make you feel pride? I'd love to take a steaming dump right on the dinner plate of the yay-hoo who runs the RRHoF and Rolling Stone.

ive been listening to the first album a lot lately. I love the soloing. I can almost hear Alex asking if he can take a longer solo on each song. He's got a couple on there that continue, just when you think he is about to run out of ideas.

Funny. I do like Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Counterparts, and some of Vapor Trails. But yeah... it's been "different" since then for sure.

Gotta say though... compared to the shark-jumping Queensryche (everything after Empires is pretty much CRAP IMO, 'cept a like a few songs on Q2K)... Rush still looks and sounds GREAT!

That's because those guys are slackers.

If I had to pick the best Neal Peart era Rush album, it would be 2112. MP was certainly they're most commercially successful - but 2112 wipes the floor with MP.

If 7:20 long "Headlong Flight" is a new cut - then I'm not too impressed. I was ready for it to end at the 3:00 mark - which for me isn't good. The production is great; but I think at this stage of the game, I'd rather just hear Rush do instrumentals. Geddy's unique high-end vocal style was a key ingredient of what was the "Rush sound". Without it, it just isn't the same band.

Why do some vocalists insist on being heard?

I think 2112 and Hemispheres are the ultimate Rush albums!!! The S/T debut does rock though!!!

No Rush tune rocks like "Finding My Way". Alex's guitar tone is simply incredible on that album. It's a "guitar players" album for sure. Alex's use of the Echoplex is simply masterful. As matter of fact - I would rate Rush's debut album in the top 3 best rock albums ever released. UFO's "Stanger's In The Night" being #1 of-course! :D
