OK...What Amps Do You NEVER Regret Selling?

Bugeras - all of them. More or less emotionally, you know, Bugera...

Mesa Triaxis, Mesa Recording preamp

EVH LBX I - very loud and not loud enough at the same time, soundwise great

EVH 5150 III 50W 6L6 - not bad, but I expected more, it was literally buried by Engl Petrozza. The guy who bought it from me asked if he could try Engl Petrozza too. His jaw dropped and he took home the 5150 with the comment that he was no longer happy with the purchase :D

Can an amp actually be "sterile in a good way"?
For extreme metal? You bet your ass. That is why a lot of us are hoping someone eventually builds a high quality ss amp. One that rivals the quality of even the midrange boutique amps.

The problem is the market is just metal guys. It would sell so few models. Last one to try it was ISP with the theta, and that is one of the amps on this thread. I wanted one pretty bad, but the reviews were so mixed.

I think this is why companies like engl and revv and mlc exist. They build tube amps that are sterile to mimic what people want in an ss, then rock guys buy them and want organic.

Mesa Stiletto - underwhelming
Koch Multitone - blah
Rivera Kucklehead - no balls
Bogner Uber - too extreme
Marshall DSL - boring
Fuchs Modded Traynor - semi interesting but not for me
Carvin Legacy - a little too dark
Mesa Dual Rec - not my thing
Mesa Electradyne - was decent but nothing special
Original 5150 - one trick pony

Diesel Einstein. I hated that thing. The plexi mode was great but that was about it.
EVH 5150 EL-34. Just a strange honk out of that one.
Mesa Stiletto Ace combo. Great design but just not happening tone-wise

Is there something you actually like?
Sure. I like the Bogner Ecstasy Pandora, The Two Rock Traditional Clean, SLO 100, SLO 30,Monomyth modded Marshalls including the Origin 50, Hopkins HW Marshall Pandora, Bogner Helios 100, Komet Concorde, Guytron GT100 FV, A really interesting Boogie Mark 2c+ I played in 2000, Some one off bogners and Two Rocks I had , the Vanous Evolution, A modded Snider California I have, A mark Kane amp, Some Early Uberschalls,(have not tried the new one), Suhr Bella. Those are a few that I like for different reasons..

Yes it can.

For precise metal riffing, where you don't need dynamics and variance in harmonic content, this type of amp is perfect. It is a great amp, i have had and have a lot of amps and this one does it's job very well.

I Would not be playing it if not!!!!

Lol. I replied to this without seeing your post, you are so right.

Sterile in a good way is what you need for extreme tight metal riffing, like a good old SS amp. Think Death (Chuck) and the 8100. Sterile amp but damn, does deliver!!!!!

Ouch....Another Revv hit. Rough time for them in this thread.
Don't understand the hate?

New sounds, new features, great metal tonea.

Play the power tube swap thing and this amp gets very versatile and each tube type has a major variance. KT 88's in it is just massive!!!!

Currently using EL34's and on the red channel, no aggression gets a very cranked plexi tone. Awesome!!!

Yeah...Totally cool that you dig the Revv. To each his own, it just seems to be getting consistently negative feedback in this particular thread. In regard to the term "sterile" which has been used a few times to describe the Revv....I have to say that for me personally, I would have a hard time making a positive spin on that adjective when describing guitar tone. I think that most of us, even those who are looking for a tight, responsive, precise and percussive metal tone are still chasing....well tone, along with some warmth, character, and dynamics in our sound.

I have never once investigated a tube amp in the hopes that it would sound solid state...That said, I absolutely can appreciate that cold and clinical high gain sound that say Tommy Victor perfected with his boosted Marshall Valvestate.
