Online amp demos

One thing I’ve noticed, whenever I’ve recorded with my iPhone it turns out super bright; so I re do it much darker and it’s still bright. I may have to purchase a plug in mic like Race.

The location in the room where you put the phone can have a pretty dramatic effect on the recorded tone; it's worth experimenting with if you haven't already

You might as well just @ me, dude.

I don't really understand the point of this thread, or the point in being passive aggressive or too soft to name names if you're already posting negativity just to instigate.

My view will always be, if you want to bitch about something, prove you can do it better, or stop bitching. Also, constructive criticism is totally fine, if you're genuinely saying you think someone could improve something and give them pointers, but bitching just to bitch is weak person shit.
What was I bitching about? Let me break it down for you. Yes, I do subscribe to your channel. I did enjoy your videos at first and realize it takes a lot of time and effort. The part I was agreeing with is that, to my ears your clips all sound the same ( and to an extent they should as you are the one dialing in the amp and playing). I personally lost interest in your videos when a new one started popping up every day. Nothing personal just an opinion.

My comment about the bitching was mainly aimed at Mooncobra, as that is exactly what he was doing.

You were in agreement with his statement of guys making amps sounds like the same box of bees, as you said "One of our Members does that, and way too frequently"

I'm not taking personal offense to it. I don't really feel I'm in agreement with the statement you agreed with, and the positive response I get from the channel leads me to believe you're in the minority. Even so, I'm happy with the with the way my clips come out as I believe they're showing the amps fairly accurately, and in a manner that falls in like with what I'm hearing in the room.

I just voiced my opinion that there is really no purpose to these negative, unconstructive threads other than some guy who is miserable projecting his own inadequacy on others. I also think it's silly when people make comments, like the one you did, softly calling people out without naming names. Why not just say who it is, when you're being obvious in the first place?

Also, for the frequency of my videos, I don't really have much of a response there. If that turned you off, so be it. I make the videos as demos for people who have never experienced the amps for themselves, or as a point of discussion, and will continue about the way I have been doing things.

I want to understand the Logic here. You stopped liking a guys videos cause he posted too many? That's like saying you switched to Dick cause your wife wanted to fuck you too much. Maybe make a suggestion on an amp you'd like to hear, make a suggestion on a style, tuning or cab you'd like to hear. seems it would make more sense to help add to ones channel & experience, rather than complain. I don't make videos cause frankly I think I SUCK at guitar, but I enjoy Kyle's, Louis, Ola's & Fluff's Videos & more. Something I've noticed about ALL Guitar Players, we are quick to tear down the guy next to us instead of helping/teaching the guy next to us.

Keep doing what you do. It's obvious that you enjoy it and a lot of others do as well.

It’s probably mic placement (if that hadn’t already been said).
Could be, especially if it's the same cab and same mic capturing only a specific frequency range at a certain level. Might not be capturing the meat and potatoes of tonal differences between amps at all.

I recorded this quick clip with Shure MV88 Iphone mic, like mentioned before, the placement is very important. It can sound crappy, so finding a good spot and experimenting is crucial. There are also many mic settings, which sound pretty different from each other. Otherwise its a pretty cool gadget for home fun.

I had a bad speaker cable, so the low end is not as tight as it should be.

I live and appreciate more clips, but I’d also like to see more clips that include the DGB and E strings :D

I don't like the fully produced, "in a mix" demos like a lot of guys do. Any amp can sound great that way and they all tend to sound the same. I prefer the demos with a camera or even just phone in the room. Tells me more of what I need to know.

That's what I prefer as well. I wanna feel like I'm there in the room rather than not. I have asked Youtubers in the past to make a phone video or to capture more of the room sound if possible and most have said no problem.

I very much enjoy Kyle’s videos and am a subscriber (even though I don’t agree with all his opinions in them, but I like the style a lot of the vids) and sometimes Ola’s since he’s funny and easy going, but honestly don’t like Louis or Fluff’s content at all. Louis has the worst recorded sounds I’ve heard. Not trying to be mean, but it’s just hard for me to understand how he can’t fix that. I also like Reza’s content and his channel has been more useful to me since he demos special amps that most can’t get their hands on. He demos some amps that I’ve still not tried yet. My favorite gear channel and the one that I learned the most from is Johan Segeborn

Also, to the fine folks of this forum that actually do contribute in a positive manner, with clips or videos (Bubbastain, Errl, Jerevil to name a few) thanks for back up your experiences with efforts to actually capture what you're hearing. This stuff takes time, and effort. I feel like this is truly what forums should be about.
Jerevils clips sound great. Wish other demos were as good as his.

Reza has some awesome amps. Plays well also. He gets some very fat tones.

I want an accurate representation of what an amp sounds like.

What’s to understand? I think Kyle is a good player and his clips sound great. Try to wrap your head around this if you can. I grew tired of the same riffs and damn near the same tone on every video so I started skipping past them after 30 seconds. For me if he posted 1 a week instead of one every day I would probably look forward to them like I do SWOLA. It’s an opinion and even though it’s 2021 I still believe I have a right to have my own.

He will also make a video about hate speech on the internet and people who play “wanna be” amps like he did when I said one of his amps which he was selling sounded a little boxy

The biggest issue I have with Amp demos is the fact 90 percent of them, the reviewer plays the guitar through some pedal (or more) and does not go through the organic tones of the amp.

I will say this.

The absolute reigning king of cellphone mic demos is Bob Gjika: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA9v7CCF6xsaCNDeGDH6e3g

He makes those God-tier 80 watt REAL single-ended Class-A 10n amps; built amps for Shawn Lane.

They are likely the finest amps on the planet and I am at a loss as to why he's not here with his own forum.

I will likely end up with one since he and I have the same vision of tone, down to the tubes we like. But for fuck's sake, a stereo rig is $15K!!!
