Online amp demos

Also, for anyone that saw ola’s recent “amp fest” video, can we all agree how fucking horrible fortin amps are now? Holy god, what an embarrassing sounding amp. That has gotta be one of the worst sounding amps I’ve EVER heard, and definitely the worst sounding expensive amp I’ve ever heard. I feel like I’m living in the twilight zone with these amps, they are so so unbelievably bad it’s laughable. Absolutely no low end, no high end, all garbage midrange. Even the cab sounds like pure shit. This fortin craze has gotta die: there was some
Guy on a page on Facebook wanting to trade his beautiful wizard mk II for a fucking fortin: I just can’t dog this company enough. If you saw that video and think fortin sounds good you really need to lay down the pipe, what a shitshow hype train of epic proportions like I’ve never seen in gear.
I admit the Fortin’s I’ve tried were probably the most disappointing amps I’ve tried based on my high expectations I had before. I wouldn’t say they sounded bad by any stretch in person, but honestly like an amp that I’d expect to cost definitely below $2k brand new. I’ve tried a Natas and Meshuggah. For the price, probably the worst amps I can think of valuewise

I agree that errrrrrls (Fakas) vid clips are just so awesome. Very entertaining at the least. And I like Bad.Seed Kyle's videos because you know what you are going to get. And he almost always starts by playing the amp with all the knobs an 12 noon. And then he goes from there and then adds some boosts at the end. A bit long for me, but I know where to look.

But seriously guys, to complain about amp demos in this day and age seems very 1st world problem ish you know?

Tough crowd here but I get it and I want to jump in too!

Rabea I think has pretty good chops and he has managed to land himself some pretty sweet endorsements and gear. His studio is cool too. Not a fan of his IR's though, tones often sound tubby.

Pete is Pete. Pretty much the gold standard and seems like a great guy. Makes everything sound awesome and that's my only gripe because I buy it and then it sounds like shit in my rig or is not inspiring.

Ola. Meh, chugga lug, I also don't care much for his humour but I guess that's what happens when you put out a zillion videos. At least he makes some cash from them.

Fluff. More chuggaluggalug everything sounds the same but good for him as well. He has viewers and gets to review cool gear.

Reza. Everything sounds the same and he is the only guy that can make a 57 sound crappy. He needs to learn what "off- axis" means. Not everything has to be center cone and mashed up to the grill.

There are so many doing reviews though, most do a decent job. Some guys around here are doing great work too. Jer is comin up!
Johan Segeborn for my taste is the best one. He does lot of creative and helpful comparisons. He doesn’t really demo metal gear much, but the stuff he has demoed was way more informative/helpful for me than any other gear channel I’ve seen. With Reza I learned about some cool amps that I wouldn’t have otherwise heard of, but like others said his sound is often a bit spiky for my taste, but I still appreciate his channel and his was 2nd best for me in terms of actually educating me on gear. Most of the other channels I’ve seen only serve entertainment purposes and can be fun when I’m bored, but didn’t really teach me much or help me figure things out about gear

Segeborn is good for the more vintage vibe stuff but a lot of his stuff sounds the same because of the way he mics and blends the room mics. He has a great sounding room. Goes to show that any amp can do the job if you know how to mic it and capture it's best qualities. He does just that.

I think if you’re gonna post videos, you might as well expect the backlash, it just comes with the territory. Also, Kyle, find another dude to be buddy buddy with: that reza dude is a complete fucking clown man. That’s the guy you wanna associate with? Jesus Christ... that dude is Vince Sansevere of the 21st century, but alittle more truthful
Chris, I'm quite fine with my choices, all around.

Segeborn is fantastic. Learned a lot about different Marshalls from him when I was first getting into them.

I've found Reza's videos to also be great in that they spotlight new builders/modders and models or custom models from these guys as well. Really shed some light on the big by amps before I could actually get my hands on them.

Jason Frankhouser's videos are also fantastic, and I use him as an honest benchmark for a lot of things. Killer player and much in my style so he resonates with me well.

Fluff and Ola used to be go to guys for me in 2014-2015, but now I use them more for entertainment. I don't gel with either of their tones, although I like Ola's more than Fluff's.

For amp demo guys, I don't really know many more that put heavy emphasis on amps. Would love to see if there are more guys out there that do it well. Zack Wish is doing a killer job with all his stuff.

Reza got a LOT of folks interested in quite a few amps. He was one of the earlier guys like Jason doing heavier tones and demos.

Ive never liked Fluff’s tones, not my kind of player but people tune in that’s for sure. Ola is more entertaining for me than anything else.
Oddly HOA Savage MKII tones and Synergy Powerball clips are probably my favorite of his. He’s just a funny dude.

I got a lot of mileage out of Bret Kingman’s, Pete Thorn and that’s about it. Even though I love heavy shit, they play more of the way I’m into.

My beef with Kingman is that he can't make anything sound really good. Always sort of meh.. I am not sure if it is his mic placement or what but it all sounds sterile to me.

Interesting how we all hear things.

Agreed, but I feel a lot of YouTube guys also are like in making it all sound sterile. Segeborn is the exact opposite and partly why he’s one of my favorites

To be fair, I haven't watched him or Pete in ages, mostly because like Fluff and Ola, they are now just making poorly veiled commercials without much effort and EVERYTHING is "bast evar!"

Yea, I’m sure you are. You’ll talk shit on a pm with reza because he needs back up, but you act like this nice innocent cool guy. You guys are soft as hell. You made in the room videos: I told you why you might consider something else and micing an amp. So reza messages you becsuse he’s a deaf idiot and you start running your mouth because you didn’t like what I had to say as if I hit your mom or something? GTFOH man, that’s some weak ass shit right there.

I watch Ola for the entertainment, That and my wife thinks he's hilarious. She would never watch any gear videos just for the gear.

I remember years back watching videos of the ENGL Fireball 60. I had to have it. Watched every video I could find and had massive GAS for one. Pulled the trigger and bought a brand new one. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Biggest gear disappointment ever. Point is, are they really an accurate depiction of what the amp truly sounds like?

I talked shit in pm because I don't like you and I made that pretty obvious publicly to you prior to doing it in private as well. And no, I made a video with an sm57 and you hopped on it basically telling me every reason why it sucked and why I was wrong and I disagreed with you. We were talking about why sounds mattered in the room and not just mic'd. Get it right.

I think your highly aggressive and opinionated posts speak for themselves. I've got no problem with people disagreeing with me, but I read many of your posts prior to and after our discussion that really made me aware of the type of dude that you are. It's funny you bag on Reza so bad because he's known for disagreeing with other people's opinions and holding his own highway. You're guilty of exactly what people don't like about him, but you're actually even more annoying about it than he ever was. So they hate for him is kind of laughable on your end. You were also sucking him off, begging for praise on your ATG recorded tones up until the point he disagreed with you and then you went full toddler tantrum on him.

There's a reason you've been removed from multiple gear pages on facebook. The way you conduct yourself is the reason I don't like you, and the reason I choose to avoid interacting with you. Which I will continue to do so from this point on, even though I know you love to try and bait people back into an argument. Good luck on your future endeavors!

I’d say Olas recent video with the fortin is for sure my experience with them. What a nightmare garbage piece of shit amp, Jesus.

Despite what you might think, being banned from reza’s page isn’t exactly ruining my life. I just bought a huge house, I’m married, have a great job: I doubt rezas has any or very few of those, I’m doing just fine. But don’t try and act all innocent, you try to be all soft and nice but really you’re just a douche who doesn’t like being called out in public, it’s cool, it is what it is. And I don’t try to bait you back into anything, I just enjoy talking shit to you, Atleast im honest about that.

And despite what you or anyone else thinks, the posts you read as “opinions”, are not always just that. You are a glorified bedroom guitarist who has obviously never played for a living. And neither has reza. I’ve never heard of someone in my life EVER who “brags about doing so much for the guitar community” as he does: as if that’s a fucking thing in life... it’s weird, and strange. But not nearly as strange as him. I’ve been a firefighter/paramedic for 15+ years, have you heard me once brag about that and what I’ve done in my career for others? Yea, exactly. But thank god Reza has done “so much for the guitsr community”...

The problem with you and people like reza is that you can’t handle when someone disagrees with you. Let’s go back the original reason why I was banned from rezas page: he didn’t like what I had to say. Even after one of the biggest producers in metal came in and said the exact same thing as I did about my clips. I have a huge problem with people like reza, and Glenn fricker etc who claim to know things but are just plain wrong about the music industry, recording, or gear in general, and I make a valiant effort to call it out as often as I can: sorry you can’t handle that. My opinions come from my own experience and people who actually MAKE records and music for a living on a large scale, not you glorified YouTube bedroom guitarists who spit out facts and get mad when people like me call you out.

Fuck, how did I forget Thorn? Yet another guy than can make a carboard box with a speaker sound amazing, but truly gives awesome insight into whatever he demos

My favorite online demos are from sotosprince. He does it mic'd, phoned, reactive load/IRs, and sometimes in a mix. Gives me everything I want to hear.

Michael Nielsen is my overall favorite. There's a lesser known channel called ChopTones that features some interesting gear too. Ola gets props for being one of the first regularly doing pro-quality mic'ed metal demos. Sotosprince does some great stuff.

Least favorites, in no order:
The Tone King
Reza
Fluff

Haha Tone King is by far the worst one. You didn’t need to remind us. I completely forgot about that one lol. He’s even worse than Louis Torres, which I forgot was possible I guess

Choptones is very good and so is this new one “Tony Batal”. He’s better than most already imo. Defintiely worth checking out even though he only has 200 subscribers so far. He should have in the 1000’s already imo. He demos amps similarly great and rare to Reza’s with better sound and presentation, but he probably also takes it more seriously to get there. I think Reza is more casual about it and still look forward to his new vids

I don’t like Nielsen’s demos honestly and something about him I just find annoying
