I will probably get some shit for this, but I think Dimebag is really over rated. I don't feel that he was "over rated" when he was alive per say, but since his death his legend/legacy has grown exponentially beyond his musical achievements.
gee...this statement includes randy, jimi, srv and even dead drummers and bass players as well...and dead painters, sculptors...etc.

wow !! I must be :loco:

I think Joe Perry is one of the most UNDER RATED ...

and I can't believe # 43 on Mr. Savage's list

how can you slag Eddie man ... :D

so was that this years top 100 ??

i just dont get how people can think dimebag is overrated. i mean i can see not liking his tone or not liking pantera, but to say hes not a great guitar player i think you gotta be a little crazy.

We never said he wasn't a great guitar player. But people take it extremes where I've seen it claimed he's more influential than Hendrix or the best guitarist ever. Say what you will about Hendrix but claiming he was less influential than DIMEBAG?? I mean really!

Listen to a Pantera album it's ok, nothing ground breaking or outrageous, certianly nothing new in the guitar.

well he did help keep metal alive

Please explain. :)

this is just what i believe, but he had alot of influence on the newer bands today, and pantera came out at a time when grunge was dominating, so pantera gave metalheads some real metal to listen to.

Eric Clapton
Jimmy Page
Joe Perry
Ace Freeley
Paul Stanely
C.C. DeVille
Keith Richards
Ron Wood
George Harrison
Keifer Sutherland

agree with all of those except:

CC Deville isn't rated at all. he is dismissed as a cheeseman by all, including himself. But if the Page fanboys want to talk "writing", I think CC is as good as Jimmy Page. The unskinny bop riff is better than anything page wrote.

also, Kiefer Sutherland is an actor. He's a good actor. Plus, he gets wasted and takes his pants off at the bar. That makes him an awesome guitarist.

I really respect Jimi Hendrix for all he did and all...but I dont think his actual talent shows as much as it used to next to guys like Guthrie Govan, Bumblefoot, Mattias Eklundh and such. Same with EVH...theyre both amazing in the innovative perspective but people thing theyre just so amazing when I dont really agree...

I also do not think Tom Morello, John Fruscianti, and Steve Vai are as good as they are made out to be.

To me, comparing Hendrix and Guthrie Govan is absurd. Hendrix was about writing songs w/lyrics and cool, stylized, blues-based guitar playing mixed in -- it's was about the song as a whole. I don't think he had any intension of trying to be a "guitar virtuoso", but at the time he did things no one else had done before. He was more about emotion and feel than technical ability. Guthrie Govan is plain and simple a virtuoso type player. Any music he writes is just a platform to show off his amazing chops -- the polar opposite of Hendrix. So really, it all depends on what you like -- I'll take Hendrix any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I cant believe you say that Clapton is over rated. Musicanship kills chops anytime. For the record I love Dimebag

"Metalheads" already had better metal to listen to. Pantera simply introduced memorable riffs into the mainstream American music scene.

Some of the greatest Black metal and Death metal records were made in the early and mid 90's - they are better than Pantera ever will be - this is fact. Any decent metal band will know this - those citing Pantera as an influence are ALWAYS subpar to those citing Bathory. IMO and IME.

Dimebag's fine - hardly a god or a great guitarist - the fanboys preaching his superhuman "skills" are ridiculous.

I must say I'm a bit shocked at a few of the names that have popped up. Oh well, to each his own I guess  .
