Guys there is a lot of mis-information floating around on this tread. I would urge anyone seriously considering purchasing a firearm for home defense to do your own research.

I will say this however, there is no such thing as a 100% stop rate for pistol calibers. Secondly, look up balistics charts for various calibers you'll find the .45 and the 9mm pretty much neck and neck. Thirdly, while shotguns are great, many people falsely believe their spread is much, much larger than it is, you still have to aim. Buck shot will spread about 3" max within the 21' 7 yard self defense ranges most of us are likely to encounter. Also, consider overpenetration as well, you could very well kill an unintended person if you aren't careful with shot placement and round choice.

The bottom line is this, shot placement trumps chambering every time. A well placed 9mm shot is more effective than .460 aimed poorly.

Do your research, visit http://www.thefiringline.com if you need further questions, you wont be sorry.

Good luck and may you never, ever need to use it.
