I thought house prices in the US were on the way down?

NI really sucks balls, we have the fastest growing housing market in Europe. The haves get more, the have nots get shafted.

"Way down" around here means down from $800k to $700k. There are some decent areas where houses can be had in the $500k's, but anything lower than that and you're making big compromises on the neighborhood.

So how do people afford mortgages? 5 years ago, you could buy a house in NI for £60,000 easy. Now, its just shot up to 200k on average, but wages dont change. Sucks balls.

Prices in Michigan are in the toliet. My mom and dad just sold their place on Lake Michigan for $975K 2 years ago they turned down 1.3 million. Our economy is pulling down our housing market really bad.

I have no idea how people are affording them. If I had to buy today I couldn't afford my house.

Dang, that's a huge increase, then again, that's what happened here too, some years back.

I'm not sure what's pulling the housing down but what I do know is that housing increased so much that the only way many/most people could afford a house was via "creative" financing. Those same people are starting to lose their houses and from what I can tell, it's going to get much worse. My only hope is that when the market hits bottom and all these people are booted, I can afford to pick up another one. :D

It ridiculous. You cant buy a small terraced house in a decent area for less than 7 times your salary.

That's the same problem as here. Then we have loads of people who want a house so badly that they throw reason out the window and agree to these ridiculous loans and essentially set themselves up for failure. We're about to see some real ugliness here in the way of foreclosures.

:) I'm a little worried about the 60 days thing, but we'll see how it plays out. We've had it on the market for 3 weeks and have had alot of interest so far, so it SEEMS possible.

When we sold our house fast it was very small and superficial 'visual' things that made *ALL* the difference...like LOTS of flower pots (from home depot or where ever) all over the front and backyard as well as lawn and garden as perfect as you can get it...buy plants and candles etc...and have them all over the house make the place look and feel 'charming' cause as we know, its the WOMAN that is going to be the biggest factor selling your house and yas gots to appeal to the SIGHTS SMELLS and CHARM to seduce the prospective female buyer (guys: lets face it, if our spouse doesn't like it we aint gettin it)...again, these things are relatively cheap but pay HUGE dividens on a quick sell.
