Problem with my "New" Herbert... Phantom and MIDI Issue...

Ok, both pin 3 and 7 are reading 7.95.... all the fuses are good, got a beep for all of them... now what?

I know for a fact it's not the cable... what could have possibly happened to the cable? It's literally brand new... worked with the VH-4 3 days ago, and worked with the Herbert before that...

Did you check what Olaf said about someone modifying the wiring to work with an Engl midi board?

Jesus .... what´s going on here ?

Mraajr, if You want to spend two weeks vacation away from Rig Talk
please let me know ;)

Mizati, please adjust Your multi meter to DC volts in
the range of 20 volts. Be sure the wires are right connected
to the unit. One cable into common and on into the voltage
plug.

Measure between the pins 1 and 3. These are at 9 o clock
and 3 o clock. You should have 12 volts between this pins.

If not, please check the fuse on the back board.
If the fuse is ok, please measure between the contact
of the fuse and the chassis. There should be 12 volts.

If there isn´t the right voltage the pre owner has damaged
the voltage regulator by sucking to much current from
the phantom power.

We have an extra voltage regulator for the phantom power
and it can replaced easily by a tech.

Please contact me at peterdiezel (at) diezelamplification (dot) com.

Best,

Peter

There's Papa Diezel!!! Sorry if I made it seem like I was starting a shit storm... I'm not by any means, I love Diezel, especially the Herbert... I just have a gig tomorrow and am freaking out... it's looking like I won't get it working by then, and most of the posts are because I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing... I'll get the info you are requesting together and E-mail you...

Mark I'd still be interested to see what your readout is...

Peter which fuse are you talking about? I have the chassis open up... all the ones that are visible from the bottom of the chassis are good... is there another one you are speaking of?

I'm getting 11.95V DC on Pin 2 and 3 on Herbert and VH4. Pin 7 reads 0.

Das siehst Du? Der eine Pin ist auch total verbogen, vielleicht touchiert der den anderen . . .

You are counting wrong:

Pin 6 is 7 o clock

Pin 1 is 9 o clock

Pin 4 is 10 o clock

Pin 2 is 12 o clock

Pin 5 is 2 o clock

Pin 3 is 3 o clock

Pin 7 is 5 o clock

Looking to the back side of the amp

I'm going insane with this multimeter... it didnt come with ANY instructions... nada... here's the link to the multimeter I'm using...

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2103176

I have no idea where to set the dail, I know the ground (black) wire goes in the middle, but I don't know if the positive one goes to the left or right... can someone help me out with this... it's been a long time since I have literally felt so completely pathetic and useless... I am an intelligent guy but this just isn't sinking in... thanks guys... Oh and that fuse is good Peter...

The black cable should be in the middle.

The red cable should be into the volts plug.

Set the knob to DC volts.

Ok Peter... the Multimeter is reading 8 between the chassis and the fuse connector... you said it should be 12 tho?

3 o'clock on the midi input is reading 8.03 and the 9 o'clock is reading nothing... I use the same setting on the MM for both of these readings correct? I have it set to not read over 40V... there is no 20 setting

Here is the link on that page to the instruction guide, I have the exact same MM, it's great for the price and I've been using it a few years now :)

http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/r ... _PM_EN.pdf

Page 6 shows you how to hook up the wires if your confused and it also has instructions on how to set it up for volts, amps, etc. it's all in there.

Let me know if you still can't figure out the meter. Might be in your best interest to take a 30 min break, watch some tv and get a glass of water, sometimes we get so frazzled by these kind of things we don't think or act clearly. Grab a pbj and put some sugar/food in your stomach then start over with a relaxed state of mind brother. You'll knock this beast one way or the other.

Dallas your the man... I finally got it figured out... the readings I just gave Peter are the correct ones he's asking for... I just don't think they are the RIGHT ones LoL...

Ok, we need to repair.

Calm down and send me an email.

Good night,

Peter

Ah repair.....us Diezel users are very familiar with those words. I have owned 3 Diezels and had issues with two. This is a fucking nightmare

Thanks Peter... you have mail...

I also wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped me out... in particular Mark... you had absolutely no reason to go as far above and beyond as you did... thank you so much, Dallas as well, I effing love this place
