Genocide wasn't even a word back then. SOP to conquer and slaughter and make slaves of those captured. They slaughtered the inhabitants of the land on God's orders because they were wicked, and sacrificed their infants to false gods, and would make a corrupting influence. I don't see it any differently than him bringing down all sorts of corrupted nations throughout history. When the Israelites fell into idolatry they too were slaughtered. God allowed it. Their cities were sacked, and the inhabitant survivors made slaves, exiled, and chased from nation to nation. Read the end of Deuteronomy, the curse section, and it is apparent they weren't exempt from the same treatment. God is a fair judge.But you forgot to mention that the OT god was also genocidal, which believers rationalize and justify
