I am perfectly content to remain a normal customer for Larry

His amp delivers the goods.

Dan, you should be praying that you are NOT a normal customer of Larry’s, because I've come to understand in private conversations with other Larry owners that NORMAL Larry customers usually get screwed in some way.

His amp may deliver the goods, but Larry sometimes doesn’t, or at least not as expected.

Larry sent an amp to me, some of the preamp tubes came microphonic. Larry shipped the amp from Germany with the tubes in the sockets, not sure if that what caused the issue or not.

Larry filed a claim through fedex who denied the claim the first time. According to Larry he appealed and they agreed to cover the microphonic tubes, Larry agreed to take the money he received from the claim and send me replacement tubes.

At the same time, I purchased an ADDITIONAL backup set of tungsram preamp tubes from Larry for his then going rate which at the time was over 400 EURO, and I sent Larry the money, Larry agreed to send me the replacement tubes covered by the fedex claim PLUS the ADDITIONAL full set of tungsrams together upon receipt of the payment. Larry received the payment.

Followed by 2 years of excuses as to why he has not sent the tubes, usually saying he will send them out by a specific date, and he never does. Then I believe it was at the 2 year mark that he ghosted me.

No longer responding by email, I posted in a thread on thegearpage over 2 years ago that Larry popped up on, and i posted the date that I originally purchased the tubes,
Larry threw a temper tantrum on the forum.

Thegame emailed Larry and Larry said he was embarrassed and insulted that I posted the date that I bought them for the public to see, so now he is done with me and I don’t get the tubes.

Larry, fed up with me, agrees to send me a full refund just for the replacement set that I purchased.

Larry never sent the money.

I posted in this forum in the last couple days bringing it up again, followed by Larry hurling insults and going from zero to wishing death on me in several posts.
Larry says he sent the money, my bank did a full audit of my account and said no money was received. I have asked Larry to email me proof that he sent the money so that my bank can investigate, Larry has refused.

Here we are.

In the meantime, several of us Larry amp and former Larry amp owners have shared their bad experiences dealing with him, and are discussing what we are going to share publicly in order to prevent others from getting screwed by him.

This thread seems like a psychotic attempt from some maniac to cut business from Larry and a pathetic attempt at that.

How is that? I spelled it out quite clearly, I paid over 400 EURO for something that was not received,

So because you have respect for him as an amp builder, you are willing to turn a blind eye to him committing fraud to paying customers?

I’m not an isolated incident, there are others who were screwed over in a deal with him in some way.
Larry makes himself look to be a clean respectable business man, but he is not.

People should hear about our experiences before making a decision to get into a deal with Larry, I’m just trying to prevent people from being screwed.

Keeping your nose brown from being deep in Larry’s shithole only goes so far, trust me I know from experience.

You’re bitching about microphonic tubes about an amplifier you ordered from across the world and received from across the world. He’s a custom amplifier builder not a tube curator and why would you order tubes from him across the world and not from a local distributor instead?

He probably wrote you off because you’re in the warranty weeds of the amplifier - which tubes aren’t a part of.

I’m sorry you two are at odds end but bringing someone else into your own order woes won’t fix the issue.

I hope you get your amp and I hope you really like it, I like mine. I hope your deal goes really well.

But you are saying that NOW.
I felt EXACTLY as you at the point you are at now.

In the meantime, I learned from other Larry customers of some things that didn’t quite go as planned, and was warmed by another to not do business with him at all. I ignored it.

I got screwed.

Despite what Larry says, I was on good terms with him through the process, he even called me twice after I received the amp and we had a couple of good conversations, Larry even divulged some secret things he had been planning which seems to not have panned out.

I was totally willing to sing his praises.

Then suddenly without warning, he screwed me in a smaller deal and turned on me with little provocation.

I hope this doesn’t happen to you, but his behaviour is becoming more and more erratic, and there are all kinds of red flags.

I just want to make sure that others see the warnings early enough to make an informed decision.

glpg80, I suggest you reread post #59 again. You’re glossing over a lot of crucial information. And Larry literally IS a tube curator. Supposedly one of the biggest tube collections in Europe.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t be upset. I would. I just wouldn’t handle the situation the way it’s been handled here.

I emailed some better business type organizations in Germany and didn’t get a response. It was difficult and time consuming to pursue due to the language translation required, and at that point I was thinking the statute of limitations for legal action may have run out (maybe that’s why he delays shipment on his products). It would cost more to hire a lawyer for a couple hours than the tubes cost.

Larry ghosted me. He ghosts MOST of his customers at some point, whether he intends to do good on the deal or not. Larry completely stopped responding to me. He has ghosted others on the forum and they called him out here and he responded and followed through, but not without a huge fit. Still they got what they wanted.

At a certain point, when you let something like this situation eat at you, it becomes an obsession that can have serious impacts on your mental and physical well being. Trust me, I had a situation with a property management company that was very similar to this. They basically stole $900.00 from me and I was obsessed with getting it back. After about 6 months of not sleeping well and thinking about it 24/7 I just told myself to let it go. Life’s too short.

The other point here is that, Thegame and I have been discussing this for a few years now, we’ve been observing Larry as the wait times get longer and longer, his behaviour gets more erratic, and other red flags are popping up, the final straw was what he did to me.

We know things that you guys don’t yet, and we are determining what of that info will get posted (not all of the stories are ours to tell). Some of you may find that info to be really eye opening.

But part of our discussions involve what we think may happen to some of the guys who have plucked down deposits or who are contemplating it, and we sincerely believe there’s a very real possibility that in a couple years or so time we may have a Cameron or Rico Jr situation where guys don’t get an amp or a refund.

I was completely open to the fact that there may have been a misunderstanding and that something happened to the wire, I have spoken with my bank and they did a full audit going back 2 and a half years and there is no payment from him. He says he wired it back, but no evidence of this.
I asked him for proof of the transaction to make sure he wired it as instructed and to make sure it’s not sitting in some dormant account that I haven’t used in years that I may have used with him in the past, but he is refusing to do this, which is not a good sign.

This is actually really good advice and I appreciate it, and you are correct on all points. Thank you.

For the most part, I have done all of those things, I did buy other tubes and I haven’t thought about it much over the last couple years.
But every once in awhile we see some poor unsuspecting person talk about how they can’t wait to get their Larry amp, and we see Larry pop up here and pimp his work, so I thought it was time to share my experience.

And also a last ditch attempt for Larry to either prove there was some type of error or right a wrong, which hasn’t been done.
