Rick's a decent dude. He may not have all the time in the world to show his prowess on guitar in his "what makes this song so great vids", but he's trying to get the message across in a period of time without dwelling. He's super knowledgeable - both in playing and behind the desk.

Haters gonna hate.
And here I thought he was trying to sell that theory book of his and add content to keep monetising his channel....

As far as these content for money YouTuber go he ain't so bad.
Now that said some of his theory stuff is driving me bats. He supposedly has a degree in Classical Bass and Jazz Guitar however looking at his book there is lot of Dick Grove book's info regurged and what stunned me way too much Barry Harris teachings badly explained.
But hey his subscribers dig him.

As for the Kramer didn't engineer Zep comment...iirc he did Zep2 after that it was Andy John's and on 1 his brother Glyn John's.

Ask Jimmy Page and he'll say he engineered all of the albums himself.

Speaking of instructional videos, I'd pay for Jimmy Page to do a drum miking instructional video.

Engineers for Led Zeppelin albums:

Led Zeppelin 1- Glyn Johns

Led Zeppelin 2- Eddie Kramer, director of engineering and mixing
George Chkiantz, Chris Huston, Andy Johns also engineering

Led Zeppelin 3- Andy Johns. Eddie Kramer was initially hired for this album, but was fired after he yelled at one of Zep's roadies for spilling food in the studio and refusing to clean it up.

Led Zeppelin 4- Andy Johns. The band was so upset at Jimmy Page's and Andy John's mix that they had them remix the album. I don't think they used Andy Johns for any more recording after this.

Houses of the Holy- Eddie Kramer (engineering and mixing), George Chkiantz, Keith Harwood

Physical Graffiti- This album is a hodgepodge of new and previously recorded material...
Andy Johns (1970 &1971), George Chkiantz (1972), Eddie Kramer (1972), Keith Harwood (1974), Ron
Nevison (1974)

Presence- Keith Harwood

The Song Remains the Same- Eddie Kramer

In Through the Out Door- Leif Mases

Coda- Another hodgepodge of leftover tracks. Engineered by Eddie Kramer, Andy Johns, Leif Mases, Stuart Epps, Vic Maile

Yes but not lately since I'm in Europe and one is in India the other in the US.
But then I'm seeing Vigier next weekend...

So, who? I went on youtube and looked him up.

WHAT THE FUCK?? Right?

How do you trash the guy? He is way better than the OP!!!! Hey OP, where's your shit? Huh? In your douche-bag? Put your "knowledge" out here for us to talk about, will you? Then we'll have an idea of what you would think is passable.

Rick Rules!!!

First rant here for me !

yes i realize the entire planet is on this guy's dick...hard
sure he knows theory
BUT
he is a pompous arrogant dick and it comes across in almost every video.
watch a few live videos and it's so evident as he interacts with commentators and or dick sucks fanboys that donate
and
his guitar playing while 'correct" has zero vibes and is totally uninspiring or memorable, and he thinks he's great.
No "dumbass" i don't want to watch you meander in G dorian and pontificate to the serfs about how to use the mode.

Compare his playing ANY real artist like paul gilbet, chris poland, kossof,.beck, aldrich, holdsworth etc ________ fill in the blank fave of yours and it's clear he blows chunks, has a shit tone, crap phrasing etc.

there are HUGE gaps in his musical knowledge
he is clueless about anything electronic from the 1940s - to present day it's all just "EDM' to him
he has no knowledge of funk/soul/bossa/reggae/ international music
his djent lesson is a bad joke
his entire foundation is classical guitar and FM rock and it's fucking lame
i don't need a another privileged "white bro "telling me how great steely dan is.
yes i realize no one is forcing me to watch him
but it's repugnant
YMMV
thanks!

Sheesh, who pissed in your Wheaties? Rick kicks ass.

As far as YouTube guys go I like Rick. I didn't see his djent vid cause that is a genre that doesn't appeal to me at all but I usually watch his what makes a band great vids which have been in my opinion damn good series.

Now Glenn Fricker, Fluff, and a few others get on my nerves. Glenn has an intro of him headbanging in slow motion and takes time in the middle of his vids to hock mobile games as if he plays mobile games.
which is both the lamest shit ever.

As a general rule though most of the YouTube guys are pricks. I guess some people get on people's nerves more than others. I like Rick though so far.
Fluff is irritating for sure, also the Music Is Win guy is fucking annoying

+1 on Music is Win guy

Actually most of the YouTube players are known to be pretty approachable and easy to hang with.
Rick never presents like he is a shred God, but his ear seems excellent as well as many other studio production strengths.

randomn thoughts:
Glenn reminds me of Lewis Black if he played guitar. Which is kind of in your face and grating but somehow really entertaining to me....and I agree and appreciate on a lot of his studio tips. His Q& A is hilarious and his clips always have killer musicians
Fluff has a dry approach that is not for everyone but is widely known to reply 1on1 with private questions- he did for me one time and his insight and advice turned out to be spot on. I dig his riffs/tones.
I like Ola but enjoyed his earlier gear work a lot more than the recent mainstream stuff

They all shill out products but I can't fault them- they are trying to make a living so whatever. It's still better than watching ABC/NBC/CBS

Rick Beato is awesome....he seems like one of the most likeable dudes on youtube and definitely knows his shit.

Also, Steely Dan rules

I can't stand Steely Dan. Everything about them and their fans reeks of assholey pretentiousness. If those are even words?

I can see you've never been on a yacht off Santa Barbara, at 530 am, with the sun just starting to come up, a cool breeze ...with the sweet tracks of Aja playing in the background, cutting up your next lines of cocaine and sipping on champagne, while the dolphins swim around your boat.

:inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

Would you rather support the burgeoning cottage industry of douchebag/s react to, insert song here. How the fuck did that become a thing?! The shit on YT blows my mind in it’s repetitive volume of mediocrity but it’s easily my first go to to find a clip of anything, visual or auditory. The ads are off the chain though and always pop in at a horrible moment during video’s.

Been there, more than once!

I'm an odd duck, I guess? I listen to: Steely Dan, Glenn Campbell, (DLR era) Van Halen, Hank Williams, Led Zeppelin, Loretta Lynn, MC5, Kansas, Lester Flatt, Rainbow, The Rolling Stones, Judy Garland, Angel Witch, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Accept, ABBA, Rory Gallagher, Highway 101... The only music that I don't like, is hip-hop.

I always wanted to do a rock version of this ABBA song. I routinely practice phasing against this composition.

never heard of the guy til now and glad i did! found some killer vids on some jazz stuff that had a certain tonality i never understood and he explains it very well! i will be spending some time with his vids for sure. glad i looked him up due to this post

I've been searching high & low on YouTube for people who just sh*t on other peoples' progress without showing anything of their own, but can't seem to find anything. (I even searched 'douchcakes') Do such people actually do anything to show online?...or do they just talk smack? Any help is appreciated...Thanks!

Watching dudes angrily defend steely dan is hilarious. I mean, no matter what the music is, someone wont like it. Don’t take it personally because YOU do. I encounter this often.

Every time I tell someone I think tool sucks they attack MY guitar playing. (Adam jones is better than you!”) Like I have to be segovia or even compete with jones to have permission to decide I don’t like a hugely popular band. ?

Mailman for President!

Back to the topic - once a "YouTuber" starts doing the choppy quick cut editing, the forced swearing, the beggings and pleadings for 'likes' and 'subscribes', and they get recommended to me every time I visit the YouTube website no matter what I am searching for or watching, I tune out from them and boycott their content.
