here i am again....

what about the connections to make recording from a mic with my M-audio fast track pro?
i read the manuals and everything... but it's not clear at all about recordig from a mic.
it's explained how to make connections for deejays!! :)

so, i plugged the mic into the 1st mic/ instrument plug and the the usb cable to power it up.
what about the rest (rear of the device) ?

i don't know, someone make me a drawing-schematic please :)

thanx in advance

hey man....

btw, do you have monitors? remember that you need to connect the monitors so you can hear and monitor what you're recording.

With the monitors connected, the usb pluged in, and installed, the DAW should be able to detect it rigt away.

Also, go to Windows control panel and be sure the M-audio card is selected as the input/output card in the sound preferences.

no i don't have monitors, i'm using the hi-fi stereo.
and the m audio is enabled of course

then just make sure the DAW is recognizing the M-audio.

what DAW are you finally using?

ok, let's use proTools for now.

What seems to be the problem you're having?

you have the fastrack connectect, windows is recognizing it fine, you've selected the m-audio card as the default card for output and input, and you opened ProTools.

Now, go to the I/O tab in the menu, and it should say the M-audio is selected as the interface and it's assigned to "Input 1"

Now, what Mic are you using? Condenser? dynamic? if is a condenser mic, you need to switch the 48v+ button (phantom power).

then open protools, make a new session (file > new)

then create a new track: Track > new

make sure to create an Audio Track, Mono

once it's created you need to press the red "R" botton, which enables the signal to come in. you'll notice that once you enable the "R" in the new track (the one you just created), if you play something, you'll see the signal coming through.

try that to see if there's any signal coming in.

the signal is coming in.

but if i record something, later listening it doesn't come anything.

then, there's a problem with your connection. How are you connecting the speakers (hifi system) ?

the hi-fi receives the audio signal from the output of the Pc internal audio card.

That's your problem then. You need to connect the outputs of the M-Audio to the hi-fi system. Pro Tools cant use the internal sound card.

yup, that's exactly your prob. as bbp explained.

I'd really suggest buying a pair of studio monitors. M-audio makes some cheap ones that do the trick.

you could also try and buy some cables that are trs (1/4 jack) on one end and RCA on the other end asuming your system has RCA outputs.

yup, see, your system has RCA outputs (as most of the home systems have) and your M-audio Fast Track has 1/4 jack (TRS outputs) which is very common in a more "professional" audio enviroment.

So, if you still wanna go the Hi-Fi system route, try and get a cable that is TRS on one end and RCA on another.

But If you're into making your own music and really diving into this, try and get some monitors..... usually they have a flat response, so what you're listening is as close as it's recorded without any coloration.

Like I said I have some M-Audio Bx5a, and they're ok, but kind of bright. There are A LOT of monitors around, so...just do your search and buy one, it's what I'd do.

oh, and take it easy, breathe hehehe this audio world has a big learning curve, but after a while you really start getting a hold of it.

that's why I suggested some tutorial videos... they'll make your life way easier.

thank you  i'm getting anxious and nervous with all these never ending cable connections

by the way manually copy and paste this onto your browser ( i guess Safari lol ) and you'll get the site:

tutorials always starts from a knowledge level....let's say from 15% and i'm quite near the 0

i'm waiting for the Pro Tools One Method dvd tutorial to come...i hope it'll help me :)
