I don't know if you noticed but no one really cares or even agrees with you in this thread, so how about not clicking on it sport?

Pretty weird of Reverb to come down on it but I think everyone knows why the standards or whatever board is singling out this pedal: it's the larger context. The whole drama started over the ad copy, and more than the disgust of the ad copy was the amount of weirdly over-compensatingly macho talk in response to the response. It's become like a chik-fil-a sort of thing where you have guys standing outside to order a chicken sandwich holding up a sign with an anti-homosexual statement on it. It was just a pedal with a kind of childish marketing strategy, but then it got a whole slew of masogynist guys rallying behind it, I guess to the point where Reverb should single it out.

So when you look at other listings that have far more over-the-top titles, this is why it's not a double standard. Look at the bigger picture. A big muff didn't have a bunch of guys posting dickish comments on their twitter feeds, so it gets to live on (and it certainly helps that that slang is so outdated people don't even realize it's such a similar pedal name).

While I agree with you regarding the outdatedness of certain slang, it's the scorched earth-way of doing things for SJW's...once a certain 'hurdle' has been overcome, it won't end there...they won't go away peacefully. They'll look for a needle in a haystack to find the next thing to be offended about.

Zvex Super Hard On? "Oh girlfriend, the amount of boners rubbing against me in public transport is really male chauvinistic pigs trying to pin down my position in society.... We cannot glorify this! Let's ban that pedal too!"

(I hope I didn't give some poor commuter with a sore thigh a bad idea now...   )

I'm not sure I follow the logic or justification. Do you think some folks talking macho about something justifies censorship, so corporate America must swoop in to protect people from their feelings?

Totally cool to sue a cow parody twitter acct for making fun of you.

Also totally cool to use a companies service, break their rules and then find a safe space to whine about the bad men hurting you.

That's a big can of worms to open. I'm not going to get into that but still it deserves some clarification: it's not censorship. It's preventing this item from being listed for sale on a private merchant website. It's not infringing on any free speech, etc., "corporate America" making it sound like it's some national attack on this pedal. It's Chicago Music Exchange saying we'd just rather not deal with it. No one has to try and hoist up the constitution like it's gonna save them or like they have a legal leg to stand on.

But in terms of justification, I'm simply saying it's clear what separates this item from the big muff or a bunch of albums that try to outdo each other for grossest title. And it's the backstory. Whether that's justified or not is another story, but since it's a private site, it's their world, they make the rules. They need to make money -- if they've somehow overstepped, stop using their service, and if enough "wronged" dudes are in that pool you can put pressure on them financially. In real life that's not going to happen, Reverb is f'in huge and pussy melter guys are teeny tiny, but theoretically that would be the mechanism for change their behavior.

I mean, it's kind a like the hefe frog thing. I know it only as a meme, but it was being blocked places because the alt-right was rallying around it, or someone was trolling like they were (I'm not going to dig in here to figure out which it is). Either way, surface: harmless funny frog meme. But then associated with a hateful message, and then private companies are saying, look, we're not going to have that posted here.

A couple years ago Reverb pulled my listing for an aftermarket strat neck that had a replica Jackson logo on it (which was made clear in the title and description). Reverb pulled it anyway for trademark violations (perfectly legitimate reason). All I did was black out the logo in the pictures, get a little more creative in how I worded the listing, and they were fine with it--neck sold shortly thereafter. It was a five minute fix.

It's cool, I'm not even talking to the political aspects of this. It's business. I am curious why someone would take sides with a company that censors things like that. I believe it's bad business, that if continues to grow, someone else will fill that void and take over their business.

So at what point would you stop taking a company's side in censoring what they allow their services to be used for?
Where is the tipping point. What if Apple decided porn was bad and put some code in the MacOS that prevented anything they defined (their definition, not yours) as porn to not function? Or replace porn with certain music or movies. Or replace Apple with whatever PC you use. Would you still use an Apple or use something else?

Edited to add: I actually like Reverb and think it was a great idea and they provide a pretty good services. But they sprang up as a backlash to people getting fed up with eBay, aka evilBay.
I just think it's strange how a company that started as an alternative to the big bad eBay takes a stance like that.
I see Pussy Melters listed on eBay, so there's that.

They should call the next version the Hymen Buster, just to piss everyone off that it's only to be "used" on a virgin lol

They've banned the confederate flag dime guitars too. a guy i know on another forum had his listing pulled for one.

Years ago I attended a Jennifer Batten clinic in LA. At some point she was demonstrating her pedalboard and she said.. "And when I noticed the audience is getting bored, I hit them right in the face with my Big Muff!!!". The whole room exploded with laughter. Then she actually turned the pedal on and proceeded to tear the house down with crazy tapping licks. And the room was silent in awe again.

There wasn't a single "macho" there willing to take her on her self deprecating humor. Why? She's a monster player who could outplay the whole room in her sleep.

Moral of the story: silly gear jokes are really degrading to people who can't play for shit.

So...I guess it's a good thing I'm not trying to sell a 100 watt Fucking Fucker.

I feel like the moral of the story is: know your audience.

By pulling your listing, you did exactly what the people who were spamming you wanted.

Looks like the attention did motivate Steel Panther to try and capitalise on the "negative publicity".

I am curious as to why the pedal costs $550 now. Because it's discontinued?

Wow.

You forgot to add: for political reasons. Which is basically censorship.

Wow, what a crappy way of misrepresenting what happened.

The dude from Steel Panther came with the name for the pedal and a bunch of crazy feminists called for it to be boycotted, and then TC Electronics like Reverb does now, gave up to the "social justice" mob and started to censorship their own product in the name of the poor oppressed females.

People were angry at all this SJW bullshit censorship and responded back. If you let a mob of misandrists dictate the name of of a pedal and if that pedal can or can't be sold, then you are basically accepting to give up your rights in the name of "social justice".

Puritanism was once the enemy of human rights and freedoms, and now the ones that search for sins and sinners with their forks are the SJW.

Even worse, at the time it was just a friggin' TONEPRINT... so not a physical pedal, but an Artist-concocted digital preset for one of TC's pedals. The artist being Satchel and the patch/toneprint called 'Pussy Melter'.

I might build the Face Melter for myself and call it the Vulva Vaporator™...

or Beaver Butcher... Snatch Slaughterer...Twat Tormentor....

oh... but wait...there's more... Muff Molester, Box Burier, Cooch Killer, Clam Destroyer (can't keep up the alliteration for ever eh?) , Fanny Devastator, Gash Waster, Axe Wound Ravager.... you get the drift. ;)

it's really good that I'm not on Twitter.

You left out what is probably the most notable point, which is that when a bunch of "crazy feminists" say that they find the labeling disgusting and start the usual boycott/petition sort of movements, the social media space filled up with the usual macho dudes saying hateful things about them, their bands, going to their band pages and trying to post hateful stuff there, posting shit on their twitter accounts, basically following this girls around the internet badgering them. Making it personal and being the usual creeps, the type that are ironically being satirized by Steel Panther.

So some companies are going to want to distance themselves from a label that gets some boycotting/petitioning, but basically EVERY company is going to want to distance themselves from those guys.

Reverb, PC Electronics and whoever else can ban Steel Panther from their sites.
SP has their own site and can do what they want with it. I think the bans and other forms of censorship just drive up more business for products that wouldn’t even exist if it weren't for the ridiculous censorship. As long as the band has fans, are exercising their freedom in the face of overreaching censorship, they will probably keep cranking out stuff and be successful.
