Hi jeff, im guessing u could order a new GNR module outright? I Have an SL2 but could see a use for both thx..Macka

I don't know about this. I can't think of a single thing Id rather use the SL2 for over the GnR. YMMV.

Hi Matt.. 1 of the bands I play in is a tribute show, and usually to an older crowd. I find the stock sl2 to be perfect for a "polite" Marshall vibe due to its smooth midrange for this gig. In the other balls to the wall classic rock band I use my trusty jcm 800 4010. Im thinkin the gnr would suit this gig. whatcha think? cheers Macka

Hey Macka,

Thats fair. I can see where you are coming from here and I certainly mean no disrespect to the SL2. Its still a fine module and was one of my favorites for a long time. However, I think the GnR would be perfect addition for "balls to the wall classic rock". I couldnt say it any better than that!

Funny just finished a couple GnR mods and what did I choose to play?

Balls to the Walls!

Has anyone sent in an SL (SL2) for the GNR-type mod? Jeff,
have you done this with any reportable results?

I did the same mod to a Sl. It is pretty much a completely different circuit so it doesn't do the same thing. It's a plexi with more grit and tighter low end. Still an SL and not the GnR to my ears.

for us SL peeps.......... is that SL mod anything to write home to mom about?
or what percent of difference in grit and tighter low end?

I now have my own GnR modded SL2. It's so worth the wait that I really didn't mind using my oh-so-terrible EG3/4 for a few days! LOL!!!

But this thing really is such a beast. I love it! It's everything I expected it to be. If you love Marshalls you should have this module. And now I'm really thrilled that I bought the MOD 100 instead of the Bogner 101b. The way I have it set up, I think it sounds better than that amp. More open and clear, but with balls. And it's more versatile. But you all know that.

Thank you Jeff and Eric for your efforts. And thanks again Jason for helping me with this purchase. It's was an easy one though! -Bill

damn all this talk...I thought I had it all planned out: When the E2 comes out, I'd get it with the SL and BMAN module, and finish the collection..but curiosity is too much, I think at some point I'm going to have to try this module

To be truly honest, this is not a try thing, this is a must have thing! It covers lots of tones, and roll the gain back on A and magical things happen :D

+1000

Hey I have the GnR but I've never played through the SL module, can anyone comment on how it compares to the A channel of the GnR mod? I think of channel A as my classic Marshally sound a la what I imagine the SL does, whereas channel B is obviously beast territory :)

The SL module is a bit woolier and a bit warmer overall. It has a different midrange focus. I have been preferring the GnR Ch A to the SL lately.

What he said  I"m really diggin the Ch.A of the GnR with the gain about 11:30 to 1:30 just a super cool vibe for sure!!

This is it - you nailed it. I have the SL right next to the GnR in my MOD 100. I've spent a lot of time comparing them like this. The SL is a great module for sure, but the GnR just covers so much ground. You can go from a slightly furry sound to a raging lead, all with really good clarity and balance. I've actually left mine in channel B and just used the volume pot to control it from clean to rhythm to lead. Fun stuff.

I found some vids of Joe Bonamassa that really reminded me of the GnR's tone. And as you know - he has some of the best tones in the business.

Agreed, he nailed the difference. That damn channel A of the GnR is so much fun. Like UB said, that range between 11:00 and 1:00 is just damn good......I'm especially diggin' it on the neck pickup.
