Seems Marshall new ownership starting the downward slide to make more money.

What do you all do for NA 120 v conversion? Does that affect sound? I'd like to grab a Silver Jube for $1115 shipped!

I think people have done it, but I never have. I've been to The Music Store in Cologne many times. That store totally rocks. I wanted a 2555x, but they don't come with a voltage selector switch and the PT doesn't have a 110v tap. So, in addition to shipping to the US and import duty, you'd have a PT swap to deal with. However, the two and four holer classics have the voltage selector and should work in the US.

I swear I've read on TGP about Thomann shipping to the US. Maybe they wouldn't ship Marshalls or maybe you have to find someone there who will hook you up, but I thought it had been done.

There is no import duty to the US from Germany for amps. You're correct on the transformers though, unfortunately the only Marshalls that have universal transformers are the 1959HW, 1987X and 2203X.

possible to just buy from a European shop and have them ship? Something I’m missing?

someone needs to make one of those transformer switches that friedman has.. you can swap up to four different transformers in and out, all else being the same. It might help a person feel better about shelling out 3500 dollars for a 2203x in the US.

Just a personal perspective here…

I’ve modded quite a few of the new 2023 1959HW’s with the MOAB+ mod. They all have had these new transformers, yet they are some of the best sounding amps lately. I have had no issues with noise from the transformers. The lay down PT’s have a massive amount of iron which is cool. They are huge.

All 1959HW’s I’ve done are putting out ~ 480vdc B+ which is perfect. They have multi tap transformers. Turn the switch on back, change the fuses and you’re ready to go.

I liked the way the mods were coming out so much that I bought a 2023 1959HW for myself and modded it as my personal amp. I paid $1925 shipped from the UK. At that price, I’m completely fine with the transformers that are in it. Maybe I’d be more concerned that it had Dagnalls if I paid $3900 here in the US. But I’m really happy with the amp. I think they’re a great deal for a modding platform since vintage is so hard to find for some guys, especially at a reasonable price.

I was always curious why people did not buy Marshalls in the EU, at least the ones that have a voltage selector. Would have done this vice versa with boogie amps as they were much cheaper in the US for a long time, but they have fixed voltage.

A lot (majority) of the stores won't ship them here. I guess used could always be an option if you find a willing shipper.

Sure about that or is the tax already calculated in the buying price when getting the amp from a bigger retailer?

I checked the bias of my 1987x today, manufactured week 10/23, and it looks like I have a vietnamese made PT and an european made OT.
