Sell your mark IIC+: the black album was a mark 3.

I think it started because people thought it was all solid state . Then they learn wizard is a huge part of that tone . I do think it was SS bias even though tubes amp on his albums was very prominent
Believe me, the Wizard on VDOP is not very prominent in the mix, cause the recording sounds just like a Century 200. They probably just used it for a hint of midrange, not the main tone. The main tone is SS Randall all the way, but it still kicks ass.

Hating on dimebags tone is a guitar forum thing more than a real life thing. I mean who puts on VDOP and says “this dosent sound good” with some sour ass puss on their face?? No one I’ve ever known.
Same here, I don't know any regular metal fans that hate on Dime's tone, usually they compliment it, or say how brutal it is. Hating on Dime's tone is definitely a guitar forum snob thing.

grittier and just not as "deep" sounding. if the whole album was like the shortest straw would i like it any different?? probably not. like i said i never even really noticed
I can hear the difference with my Quad. MkIIC Channel is slightly fatter, Mark III channel is grind-ier, tighter, but lacks....something...not sure what it is. Its awesome for thrash metal though. See Below

Vinnie Paul said the razor sharp highs I’d from the wizard . All the sizzle . He said they only got that from tubes

I really like the fact that they tweaked amp settings for almost each song. I think it adds a subtle character to each. I'm not sure how common this was back in the 'old' days, but I think it is a reason why a lot of newer albums sound so generic to me when they get their guitar tone setting and it stays exactly the same throughout. Cut'n'paste tone for an album gets boring real quick. I think it's why a lot of newer music and recordings, esp using digital IR's, I don't enjoy as much, it's too perfect and exactly the same over and over pretty quick. No real personality. I get that consistency is needed, but those little subtle differences add to the end result.
Add in the factor that many bands songs on albums run similar tempos from song to song, but I guess that's a natural thing between the band dynamics that they usually play and feel comfortable with.
At least thats my personal theory why some of those older era albums have such an enduring appeal for me. The little differences reward repeated listening. The more cut'n'paste the sonics are through the album, the faster I tune out and don't go back to them as much. I'm focussing here on tones and such, not about the greater songwriting factor and such.

re: 5.98 EP. I like the rawer sound on that album. Obv down to the lack of production, as stated on the album cover. It sounds much more like straight IIC++ without too much over-polishing. Get a good raw tone for each song and knock out the songs. I love Jasons bass tone and prominence in the mix. If only his bass had sounded like that on AJFA it would have been more killer.

I thought it was the other way around from what I remember reading, the wizard I thought he said was for a little warmth and clarity. I have all the guitar magazines from back then in my closet I was just thinking I need to take out and read through again, I’ll have to find those articles. I can’t imagine the Randall’s needing much help in the sizzle department boosting like he was, I’ve tried his settings before with mine and it’s almost hard to control it’s so gainy. He also used a Mackie mixer I’m assuming to do more eq’ing.

I’ll send you the picture of the article . Vinnie Paul states what I said one second

I think I recall Scott Ian also saying something similar, he tried Dime's rig and said the amount of gain it used was hard to handle for him.

The difference between forum asscans… exactly. No one talks shit about dimebag, whether it be his tone etc, in the real world.i laugh at everyone that talks shit about dimes tone, because you are literally not a musician if you are more worried about his tone and how you think you should feel about it, than the onslaught that was his playing. Fuck midrange. Fuck these pussies today with no edge. Fuck djent. Fuck you if your first thought about pantera is dimes tone. How small minded can the local band circuit be.

i think im thinking of a different article i think but it was worded basically the same. the one im thinking of i remember vinny paul talking about needing to scoop 1khz, then this video i saw recently about the mackie made me think they are probably scooping with that and adding some of that high end sheen his tone had. i cant find the whole interview video but it was everyones favorite glen that did it with this lars dude and this is the gist of it

 even the pussies with no edge were into PanterA after watching me sing "Shattered" fall over drunk at high school parties. i might get drunk tonight and see if i can still hit the high parts

If you love Dime you should get a wizard. You would love it . I can tell by your clips you would get some sweet tones. Btw wizard is not on far beyond driven so you can hear his tone without wizard .it’s also not on last album they made

Hilarious thread :ROFLMAO:

So I just bought a JP2C that will arrive on Tuesday and my friend Anthony is bringing his MKIII Simul-Class Red Stripe to my studio to compare. I want to experiment for myself and see my findings of all this mark bullshit. I will 100% make a thread here on my findings. Me and my friends who are involved in this experiment are all curious of the similarities and differences of these amps.

thats funny, i was just listening to far beyond and was thinking this tone definitely is not "tubey". maybe one year ill get a wizard but what i really probably need is a dimebucker or 500xl backwards, that seems to be a big part in clips i hear of guys trying to cop his tone, it never really sounds right unless they have one of them.

I use to have this that pick up . I liked it better than the l500. The regular pick up so low output and clean . You would definitely like the 500xl .I could talk Dime forever lol
