This post got me jonesing for the Marshall hang so I pluged into the late 70s Soldano modded (extra pre-amp tube) 100 watter of Dave Simpson's I have in my office...
Yup, Saturday's gig will be that one. Damn that thing is happening.

hey Ed, is that the Soldano hot mod thingy that u just plug into one of the preamp tube sockets?
Nope, it's another pre-amp tube and extra filtering hacked in there.

Scott,
I love having these old Marshalls around here. They look so cool. When I want that old Marshall tone (which is most of the time) I plug in my Mojave Peacemaker. Done deal. I'd sell those old Marshalls in a heartbeat if I needed the money. The Peacemaker would be with me, in a shopping cart, living under a freeway overpass if it came down to it.

My '70 and '72 are 90% as good the Peacemaker for 50% more money than a used Peacemaker.

Ant,
No man. I stopped selling Mojave stuff years ago. I loved their stuff and believed in it like a Kool Aid drinking disciple and have been a salesman in guitar shops for 24 years and I still couldn't sell the darn things. People were just dumbfounded when I told them $3100 for a Peacemaker head.

Scott,

I now am down to 9 100 watt Super Leads - all ptp and in great shape.

Get a used Peacemaker. period.

Keith

I have to quit reading this thread, it's making me want to buy a Peacemaker - I think they have some crazy 3 year payment plan that looks pretty convenient

Hey Keith, did you end up with a Peacemaker? If so, sounds like you dig it! I'm tellin' ya, it was one of the best sounding amps I ever owned. Just not the most practical for my situation (I need to boost my volume for leads with the band.)

Hey Chris,
I never did buy one as I just have recently bought a new house so I'm lucky to still have all the amps I do... My wife says "what's all this junk?" once in a while and I just laugh and shrug the shoulders. hehe
I did have one for a month and a half and it is THE ULTIMATE non master volume amp I have ever played-period...
Better than any stock Marshall I have ever owned and I would say "almost" as good as the Jose '72 I have but only because it has more gain than the PM does.
The Peacemaker is the amp Scott would be most happy with for sure.
It just sounds best right outta the box, Chris. You are right!

Scott, if you want "that" tone, get a Peacemaker. It's easily as good or better than any old Marshall out there and one cool thing is it "feels" like it has more gain and sustain than a stock Marshall, which is a great thing when you figure in the tone you get with that!

Dude, go used all the way! Mojave's don't hold their value at all. The new PMs are something like $3,000. They can be had for $1,400 and stuff used in mint condition. The guts of those amps are BEAUTIFUL and you can tell alot of care is taken when they are assembled, but $3k is alot of moolah for a single channel "simple" amp.

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll be saving up for a used one then! I have 3 heads I really love right now, I guess 1 more wouldn't hurt :)

ceriatone will be better than the reissue or the handwired. HANDSDOWN

I gotta tell you, I got a Ceriatone with no transformers, put in some Sozo caps and picked up some MM transformers - amp cost me under $900 and it is my favorite amp.

Wow Keith, I didn't realize you spent time with one and loved it too! You and a few of these other guys are authorities on vintage Marshalls, so it's nice to hear that the PM can hold it's own with them. Like I said, I've never even played a "real" vintage Marshall (late '60s), so I can't compare. All I know is that the Peacemaker stomped any other amp I've personally owned in that same category. No contest, really.

That PM is a great amp!

Oh, CONGRATS on the new house![/quote]

Thanx Chris!

Ya... the PM is a monster for tone and I really liked it a lot!
If I had to choose one NMV amp, this would be the one for sure.
One thing most people don't think about is that Clapton, Beck, Page and Hendrix were all playing thru BRAND NEW AMPS when they recorded all the old stuff.

I always laugh at these guys who think an "aged" Marshall will sound closer to those tones. NO... a good Marshall will sound like those tones- - maybe a brand new Marshall HW amp.
Just something to consider...

Anyone play a Scorpion? How far is it from the Peacemaker?

I have played several Scorpions and the difference was sizeable. Much more so than a 50w vs. a 100w Marshall. I LOVE the Peacemaker and I don't particularly care for the Scorpion. I don't know why, I like 50 w and 100w Marshalls
