My original intent for starting this post was to showcase the differences and/or similarities in tones of each amp. Maybe I wasn't clear in my original post. I obviously know what an SLO can do.... This was meant to find out what the Friedman BE100 does compared to what the SLO does. I was thinking of buying another amp for a little different tone, but nothing else is interesting me these days.

SLO = This...

BE100 = That...

Make sense? :confused:
Then the answer is that are quite different. But the door is wide open for you since nothing really sounds like an SLO.

No! My door is quite NARROW actually....played and owned just about everything. Maybe I should have started a thread that said "School me on the BE100.."

Yes, and I think the point was made early on Bryan. Unfortunately, these threads cannot stop there and someone will usually chime in about the financial aspect of it, which is none of their business, and their opinion on price points and bang for a buck. Clearly, you have the bar set higher than the masses and had a very specific question about comparing the two amps - not a budget alternative.

These threads always seem to go sideways and fall off the rails.... :confused: :confused: :confused:

Thanks Steve.

I surrender...going to play some guitar now! :lol: :LOL:

I have no experience with the BE, but owning an SLO and an Uberschall Rev2, I can honestly say take a look at one. The Rev2 is the opposite end off the spectrum. Of course you already know the SLO is very tight and upper mid voiced, the Rev2 has more compression and lower mids. They work very well together.

I would love an SLO, but here in Europe you can't get em for less used than 3000€ (about 3800$).

That said, I could sell my 3 amps I am owning right now and fund an SLO with it.

But I am not running a W/D/W rig right now, I really need a great sounding loop.

Has actually never anyone built a Metroamps loop into an SLO?

That will void the life-time transferable warrantee and kill resale value if performed by a third party. Soldano can do other things to the loop upon request; lots of threads on the loop on the Interent.

Completely different sound and feel.

There's no more one SLO tone, than there is one Friedman tone.

A little off topic, but are you KIDDING ME!??? Why was the camera man filming the lights during EVH's solo in that video!??!??

Killer SLO tone!!

for someone who has 3 slo's why are you trying to compare it to other amps. are you looking for clarification that it does sound like an slo so you can have 4 slo sounding amps? or do you want something different.

I can't understand why anyone would need three slo's in the first place, but what ever makes you happy.

Obviously you didn't read all of my posts! .....not looking for another SLO, genius!

But, but, but, Bryan....he's expressed concerned that you own three SLO's and worried about your happiness :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL:

Different tubes can make them sound different enough that more than one is warranted. For me once you have found a base tone you really like, you build a rig around that. Everything in that rig enhances that base tone. So, for me, having that base tone tweaked by a KT66 over a 5881 is enough to want the second amp, keep the general vibe I like, and not have another amp that I would build outboard gear around. :thumbsup:

Dave's amps are over priced for what you get. I would take a Splawn first!

I played a Splawn and thought it was lifeless and stiff. I'd rather shell out the big cash for one of Dave's creations. But to each his own.

What can I say? I find his amps very average. The Marsha is average sounding and harsh. Any Splawn I have heard or played next to it, sounded better and basically destroyed it, for me persnally. More life, more fun to play! The Naked? I played as well and hated it. Very blah. Any Bogner destroys it. I have had some of his modules as well and two had to be repaired because the work was sloppy.

I also wouldn't pay that kind of money on an amp just to jam at home and play in an 80s tribute cover band. Now, if you play professionally and make a living playing guitar, then I can understand spending that kind of cash on an amp. :)
But there are much better amps out there for much less.
So I have to comment...you are the first person that I heard say the Marsha/BE sounds "harsh". How many have you played through, what were the speakers, and did you dial it in yourself? If there's one term that I wouldn't use to describe a Masha, its "harsh". Everybody is certainly entitled to their own opinion, but yours seems to be pretty far out there. You may also want to back off on stating your opinion as if its a fact ("Any Bogner destroys it" :jerkit: ).

Now on to your comparison to Splawn. Please explain where you were able to hear them side-by-side (and on multiple occasions)...what was the context?

FWIW, here's a link to a comparison I did a couple of years ago:

I'm still trying to figure out why Ed was playing that ugly steinberg at that cabo wabo show!!! As for the argument at hand, if someone finds a Marsha fizzy then that is their perogative. We can't all like the same amps after all.. would be interesting to see what speakers/cabs it was run through when the assessment was made though.

Because they were playing "Summer Nights" and you need the transtrem to play that song.
