I don't use alot of gain in my tones.
Orecense and treble increase gives the perception of more gain without making it muddy. Obviously the balance is found so its not harsh up top.
You can claim it's loose all day dude. I've had 6.... they all did the tight metal without a boost thing very well when dialed right to me and my guitars.
So you're trying to convince someone who has seen the light, that the light doesn't exist.
I think you need to climb on out from under that boulder my brother. It's time. Free yourself.
I'm not saying the only way you can get good and aggressive tone from a Recto is to boost it, I'm just saying that turning the Bass down does not tighten it.
I agree with you that messing with the highs and presence can go a long way toward sounding more aggressive though. I do that trick on my MC2 a lot, works really well there. If I want to give the sound more scorch, I tend to turn up the presence, not the gain most of the time.
