Soooo… $3499 for the RI Dual Rec?

Tight amps demand very clean technique. I don't know why I've punished myself with big loud clean amps my whole life. Bad habit I guess but every time I plug into some lower watt wooly squishbox I miss the punch and clarity of a tighter amp.
Yeah. I cant stand loose amps. I just mean that the metal amps have gone a bit further than necessary. A wizard was as tight as i needed. Anything more is kinda iffy.

I am not into the clanky sound. I want an amp that can do heavy rock also, not just the superfast metal. If the thing is too tight, it loses the bloom and voicing

I love tight amps, but I find them very one-dimensional. I'd rather have an amp with a bit of sag than none at all. Easy to turn a looser amp into a tighter one. You can't go the other way. That said, I vastly prefer the Mark sound to the Recto, so when it comes to Mesa, tighter is better for me.

The mark series are very good. They hang with the new breed of superamps easy

You know, Sam, I feel like me and you are the only ones that nerd out so hard about voicing and open powerchords.

I know that super tight is all the rage. But some of the amps are so tight they arent even fun anymore.

I just want a great voicing and tight enough
Yeah simple long held powerchords to me are the most telling thing about the gear's overall voice/tone profile, growl, but I like to nerd about everything and also love super tight amps, even some clanky ones. I find amps like the Hermansson's, Dino, Dorado and Hell Razor lots of fun to play too as long as you play appropriate stuff to highlight their strengths. Actually, feel-wise the Hermansson's have been some of my favorites, very addictive and connected feeling even if the tone isn't one's thing

I think many will love Lenz's (I have now both a High Octane and Hot Chili) because they're tight enough to work for most styles even without a boost, but there's no clank whatsoever and they don't come off super tight, yet they get the job done in hearing all the notes clearly in those very fast palm muted passages. That being said, for that kind of stuff I'd usually go with one of the super tight amps mentioned above instead or a boosted Mark IIC+

Not necessarily IME. Most of the tightest amps I've tried like the Hermansson's I actually find easy to play. I think it's more about an amp's compression level and overall level of detail to the notes that make them less forgiving. Big loud, high wattage clean amps like the Hiwatt or Alessandro DAZZ I'd agree are some of the more unforgiving amps IME, but I wouldn't call them really tight sounding, maybe tight feeling. That's I think why many find Wizard's and Fryette's/VHT's to feel more unforgiving for high gain amps even though there are tighter sounding amps out there

Some of the more modern styles imo need that level of tightness. The Hell Razor is though one of the tightest amps I've tried so far. Only 3 amps I've tried even tighter. For the right context that clank can be effective imo, but I agree there are definitely trade offs with most things. No super tight amp that I've tried has good bloom nor do the highest powered/most punchy amps I've tried

The most toneful/harmonically bloomy amps I've tired have generally been 50w or less and generally also not amps suited to metal or hard rock. Nothing remotely touches the one real Dumble ODS I tried in that way, but other than that the vintage Jim Kelley's are the next best I think I've tried so far and closely followed by Ronin's

Oh I’m sure it’s impractical, but that doesn’t make it look any less awesome.

One thing does bug me about the look of the RI though. I’d swap out the black loop active master knob with a chrome one. Mesa got that one right the first time.
Yeah it is tough to read them. Flashlights are no help either. Looks cool and all, but they could have thought about us dive bar playin’ heathens.

The fix is easy. Carefully fill the knob detents with white paint / fingernail polish. I use a toothpick. Problem solved.

The knobs are fine. The lettering on the chassis is my issue. I use this amp so rarely I can’t remember which control is which.
