The ROCKMAN pedal from MXR

sounds just like it did it in the 80's ...... unless you're doing Boston covers ...... meh

the re-issue bug has hit again .....

I will say .... it looks cool ... they did a good job there

It seems like gen X’ers must be now coming into money and buying things that remind them of their younger days, which I guess is a thing from studies I’ve read. Things like bmx bikes, which I literally had a garage full of from my parents friends just giving me cause their kids grew out of them, are going for thousands of dollars now

Peace Sells wasn't all rockman, the main rhythms were marshall's. Chris Poland's lead tone was Rockman though.

Yeah, i'm aware.

I think chris' lead tones are one of the best parts of that recording

The intro solo to good mourning black friday comes to mind

There are a lot of us old farts who'll buy it.

I have no doubt that a lot of young guitarists listen to Def Leppard, Boston, etc. This pedal will sell like crazy.
Lamb of God used this pedal on "Thirsting for Pain" and Cannibal Corpse used this for the solos on the "Dead Uncle's Jar of Maggots" and the whole " Soup and Blood Soaked Brain Bread" album.

I have nothing and don't know where I pulled that B.S. out of....

If you believe that. Listen to it. If you can’t hear the Rockman, don’t know what to tell you. It’s plain as day.

In the rhythms or the leads or what?

I've always heard it was Laneys, Randalls, and Marshalls, with an 808 and sustainer used on some of the leads but not the rhythm tracks?

I can definitely see how the randalls could sound like a rockman, but i've never heard that before

Being an old fart, I have no idea what to make of your post. LOL

Is it the chorus, compression or mix of the two that causes that? The volume increases the amount of compression, which I would imagine could generate the pulsing sound?
No its a poor design.

I have doubts. I’m 36 and my generation doesn’t give a shit about most of that era, and younger kids are even further removed. I’m certain it will sell well with the older crowd with expendable income though.

If you actually look into it, there is a whole slew of 16-26 yr olds that are way into the late 70s - 90s era stuff.

Gear, clothes, home audio, so many things. Seriously, the 80s hair and metal stuff is HUGE with them right now. Especially in Europe.

CDs are making a massive comeback as well.

Just saying.

I play to mostly crowds of 18-24 or so and just not seeing that.
That's fine, but as someone whom actually Interacts with humans in this age range ...and have put pedalboards together for them...and seen unreal rack set ups from others, and hear what their influences are....I do.

Not trying to be a nay sayer....just add a little more perspective, unwanted or not.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say that over the decades that I worked in the musical instrument industry, I'd be rich now.

People discover eras before their own every day. Several hundred years after Bach, humanity still loves his music.

My 22 year old nephew had never heard of Van Halen until very recently when I let him hear Eruption for the first time. His jaw hit the floor. Then he wanted to hear more so I turned him on to the Roth era VH albums. He's devouring that stuff. Now he's thinking about learning to play guitar.
Then I turned him on to Zep. He's doomed now. :)

Reaction videos of people losing their minds to Pink Floyd and Zep are all over YouTube:

These guys don't look old to me...

I can hear it plain as day in the rhythms. Years ago I had a Soloist that I used direct into my 4 track. Used the lower of the gain settings and a SD-1 in front, no chorus and got a very similar sound. Were there other things mixed in? Could be, but I can hear the Rockman in there. It has that spongy, compressed bottom end thing.
Listening to the following album, the Marshalls are what I hear. Back for the Attack I think. Always thought his tone on that was kinda shitty. The songs and playing are cool.
