Tube amps have become obsolete

He's also only into one type of tone

The boring sneap nuthugger emg/boost/v30/57 thing

Literally every video is some variation of it or the In Flames post sellout Gayman tone
I'm not a fan of Sneap either but there's nothing wrong with that combination of gear. It works for a reason. Now if you were to add 5150 to the mix then I'd say boring, for sure.

I wonder if there’s any Glenn Fricker types in the classical world where they recorded both a genuine Stradivarius violin and a $300 entry level student’s violin and then concocted a “vintage instruments are 100% hype” video after they didn’t sound all that different on the recording. Serious classical musicians wouldn’t fall for that shit so why should we?

Its also completely banal and I'm sick of hearing it on every satellite radio record, every "metal" guitar YouTuber track, and every clip someone posts on a forum

It "works" because everyone seems to want the exact same, exhaustingly boring sneap/Fricker/ola sound.

That would actually be hilarious 🤣

The reason guitar players fall for it is because they want to have their purchasing decisions validated.

Most "guitarists" (in pure numbers) are bedroom hobbyists, and they aren't (and don't feel) justified in spending money on decent gear. So they go on YouTube, and Glenn Fricker gives them emotional validation for buying a slave labor Harley Benton.

"See! My AliExpress guitar is just as good! And anyone who says different isn't following Facts™, evidence ©, and Logic®!"

I’m gonna watch the Sneap interview with Glenn I’ve been meaning to watch now, I’m not really the biggest Sneap guy but he is super successful so I’ll listen to what he has to say, maybe I’ll learn a new trick or technique

These people get their clicks from beginners who know very little and serious musicians who mock them. So, there has to be an audience for someone doing this in the classical realm too. Hell, I bet there is one for EDM as well. There is bound to be some egotistical douchebag telling all the kids that analog synths are obsolete and that they should be buying X plugin while getting a nice sponsorship for doing so. Meanwhile, they are using their Behringer synth making trash no one will ever listen to.

my young students see a tube amp head like a new Wizard and say wow a vintage tube head from 30 years ago lol fr . Or my small recording board they ask what is that old thing a VCR lol I’m serious. They want digital boxes with lights and computers . They think every thing is digital now .

There definitely is this kind of stuff with beat makers, you got the new school on their computers using sound packs and the old school still using 808’s and mpc’s, both think the other is retarded

This thread will have more pages than all the Cameron threads combined.

I don’t know what’s more painful to listen to; GF yelling or his wretched beginner level vibrato and bends. Both make me sick

His playing makes me physically ill

Anyone who takes guitar buying advice from someone that shit at guitar needs their cognitive faculty checked by a pro

I wonder if you could build a mini powerstation that ran on 12xx7 tubes or a 12BH7 in push/pull and stuff it in an amp
It’s certainly possible to do that and Kingsley has a tube power amp with reactive load Called the crucible just like that. However what I was trying to explain is an amp that can use a section power amp either for the internal slaving or in conjunction with the other 50watt power amp.

If you look at a modular approach, take a dual channel 50watt rack tube power amp. You could take your tube preamp into the rack power amp and just run with both sides. Or you could take you preamp into power amp channel 1, take that to a reactive load, then take that to channel 2 of the power amp to a guitar speaker cab. If you built this functionality into a head, it would allow you to have the power when you need it or the volume control when you need that.

True......but hey.....at least it draws in folks like @blackba that actually have some good knowledge.

Speaking of.......@blackba you do many 6V6 builds?
Mostly done repairs. I did do a Bf tremolux chassis that was found buried in the dirt. Was able to use the choke and output transformers and replaced chassis along with the blue molded caps. That was pretty much like building an amp from scratch.

And now I am doing one from scratch in a project I am calling the brown super deluxe. Channel 1 is the normal channel from a brown fender super. Channel 2 will be both channels for a brown deluxe. Power section is a brown deluxe as is global bias wiggle tremelo. This is going to be built into a brown super chassis. Power tubes are 6v6s. So this is my first build with 6V6s and also will be the first 6v6 amp I have in the stable. Had them in the past.

I’m not clicking this dorks video, but those orange solid states do sound great. Tube amps aren’t going anywhere though, even the amount of modelers in the touring world is still an infinitesimal percentage.

I actually don't even click on Frickers vids anymore even to hate watch. It's like I said before, I have met so many of those guys and he would be the last guy I would trust with engineering and producing an album that I had to put a budget into. My dream producer is probably 78 years old, and we calmly come to an agreement of the best way to capture a tone and a performance..and then I don't have worry about some fuckboy on his phone texting during tracks. And just get shit done.

First of all, I'm not watching it and if nobody would click on these shitty videos they would have to find an actual job instead of uploading garbage on YT. It's that simple. Secondly, why should I care what these incompetent idiots on YT are saying? It's blatantly obvious for years now that it's all about money. They're only trying to generate traffic and engagement by putting out shitty clickbait content to stay relevant to the all-mighty algorithm. It doesn't matter to the algorithm if the engagement is positive or negative and I'm not playing this stupid shitty game that only imbeciles who might even pay for YT premium thoroughly enjoy.

Plenty of different amps out there some of which have tubes others don't and there are amps that have implemented something of everything, tubes and/or SS and/or digital. Some are overrated or shit and some aren't. In the real world there are still plenty of gigging musicians out there that don't go digital all the way and prefer to use fullsize analog solid state or tube as part of their rig instead of the lunchbox or pedal form factor and don't give a flying fuck about "hired guns" or guitar youtubers.
