Undesirable Mesa Dual Rectifiers

I had 4 of various versions. I grew out of that sound and sold ‘em in 2005
The problem is that nothing Marshall really does that sound well. I want to start doing more alt rock covers that I grew up with and outside of my 5150 nothing else touches it.

Everyone should have at least one recto, because nothing else really does that thing. It may not be your favorite sound. It may not be your most used sound. But it will put a big fat smile on your face in the room at how ridiculous it can sound.
My main jam is definitely non master Marshall’s and Fenders but my T-Verb is still a lot of fun.

+1 amps like a recto and marshall 2203 are 'never part with even if not being used much right now' amps for me

I'm on my 3rd recto and will never let this one go

Love all the Mesa's.
There's a few here. 😁

A Recto with a series mod, an EQ in the loop and a boost out front is my favorite. In Vintage, I can get them pretty close to my Mark IIIs.

With that said, they will cut and hang with ANY Marshall I have.( JCMs & Plexi )

How about a SLO-100

The tonestack on a Mesa is where the effects loop is on a SLO. They aren’t designed the same and don’t respond to boosts the same way. I find a 5150 is better at alt rock than a SLO.

To me the only good one that I'd have interest in would be the Mini Rectum.

I did an a/b with the Mini and the bigger, older vintage brothers and found myself prefering the new thing every time, for every situation.

That's my take, I'll let the door slam all your asses on the way out while I take advantage of the wifey's assets.

Tata!
A swing and a miss…

I think a recto absolutely demolishes a 2203. You can get killer “Marshall” sounds out of them
No, no it doesn’t…
I’ve got a Rev C and a stock 2203, and the 2203 is every bit as good, while being even more open and raw.
While the C has more available low end punch, and those killer growling lower mids, the JMP gets every bit as vicious and would bury it in a live mix. A boosted 2203 is a force of fucking nature.

They’ve recorded with 2 channels exclusively to my knowledge. I’ve seen studio pics of Gs, but I know Rob has Fs that he uses and have seen him use his F live before in person.
My buddy’s band Slauter Xstroyes played in Wisconsin with Exhorder this weekend, who Pat O’Brien is now with.
Pat’s rolling with an F Triple, sounded horrifying.

Yeah pat, and Rob have used them for a long time, just crushing. probably the best live tone I’ve seen… their shit is so dialed. Even now with rutan, who usually uses the multi watt live.

I’ve compared side by side 3 Rev C’s (played 4 total) and have compared my favorite of the 3 C’s with 2 Triple Rev F/C mods, a Rev D and Badlander I all had and IME the differences were pretty clear cut and actually bigger than I was expecting between revisions. Sure they varied plenty between the same revisions, but still at least sounded like the same revision overall with their respective distinctive qualities to each

The F’s sounded stale and less responsive vs the C and D and couldn’t be dialed in to really get the same sound or feel. Even if dialed it in a lot brighter than the C or D it still couldn’t get the aggression or grind the same way in those frequencies (smoother/staler) nor the same tightness and perhaps most importantly the feel. At least from the player’s perspective that difference in feel is quite substantial imo. The C and D were also the only Recto’s I really thought were capable of great lead tones when needed (IIC+ for me is still better there though). In clips I guess one can argue they’re all close enough for government work, but in person the differences to me are pretty big. The D I had was pretty damn good, but the C’s were even better. I could be very happy with any of these early Recto’s, any would be at least top 6 for me, but ignorance is bliss doesn’t work for me

I also find, while you generally get fatter low mids as the revisions go up, the Rev C’s have the most extended actual low end IME
Agreed. I’ve got a C, compared it directly to an F, and I’ve owned a D and an F. The F is killer amp, but in comparison to the C, the F was less punchy and alive, with a bit of a blanketed sound, and definitely less responsive and bouncy feeling. Both GREAT amps, one’s just a little greater.
As far as the non MW versions go, my buddy had a Dual that sounded great. We compared and both agreed that it sounded better than his Dual MW. It was just more raw and nasty. Even a lowly non MW three channel can sound killer if dialed in properly.

You keep talking about how good your C is but you have yet to bring it to the Amp Cave. Are you afraid my Mini is going to destroy it!? 😏

I started my amp journey with a tverb. I can get anywhere I want to go with a rectifier. Then I discovered the mark 4 and damn..awesome. I always keep going back to rectifiers though. For me there’s only one reason for one and that’s the big ole wet hairy rectifier sound. Later on I got a Marshall and sorry but I never bonded with them the way I have with my rectifiers. I have had a pile of rectifiers and they all sound awesome..but tverbs are my favorite.

CC has had one of the absolute best live tones I've heard come from a Recto. So tight, punchy, enormous and zero fizz. Standing directly in front of Pat was an experience. Partially, my influence for indulging on the Rectos and Mark IIIs ( reading years back he used one on GOS which is one of my fav albums/tones )

I dunno man. Granted I’ve never been very impressed with JCMs (I think they are all klang and no tone), I think you got a dud if your recto couldn’t punch at the same weight as an 800. Mesa EQs can do anything you want them to, including cutting through a mix

Ive always loved this pic, but to this day I have no idea why my pants were so poofy lol
