FWIW - I played it through a D412 w/GBs and a D412 w/H30s and I like it better through the H30s.

The GBs probably would make it even more "saggy" I would think.
Yea - The H30s had better attack, but there was still more squish than I like.

Cool man. Just because I'm not diggin' mine (I spent another 5 hours with it this weekend) doesn't mean you won't. From what you mention about liking the UL and the Deliverance I'm betting you will like it.

What is it you're not digging about it? What other VHT amps do you own (I forget)?
I've owned 3 ULs (2 older ones and 1 newer one with the eq) and 2 classics. I like a lot of the sounds from the sigx, but I don't love any sounds. Also with the gain set high it's way spongier than I like. So far I've spent about 8 hours with it. I'm sure it's going to take more than 8 hours with this pig to get the sounds I want, but I was hoping to like it more at this point.

I'd say 8 hours is enough time to know if you're going to dig it or not. I'm thinking you should dump it now while people are still waiting in line for these amps. Just my opinion, though!

Have you played a Deliverance? If so, would you say it's similar to that amp as far as feel goes? To me, the Deliverance "feels" better than the UL. I think it has a tiny bit more "give" to it. I like the fact that the Sig:X has a tube rectifier to give it even more "give."[/quote]
Not that I'm Pete...but to me the difference between my D60 and my Sg X is that the Sig X is smoother more refined, and the D60 a bit more in your face.
Yes on the 40 watt tube recto setting the Sig X is mosdef squishier than my D 60.

IMHO I think the SigX had a simular feel to the Deliverance more so than the UL and I agree with Ed the D120 I had was more in your face and less refined than the SigX. I also agree with what Pete said, the more gain you give the SigX especially on the lead channel the more it has a sag feel. But to me it still has a real good attack or that Marshall quack. To me the Sig X isnt near as squishy as Bogner XTC but not as immediate as the UL. From what I've heard of Pete's music, I can see why he would like the UL better as it really lets his riffs feel like they jump right out there.

Very cool Thump. I love mine - perfect fit between modern/vintage. One of the other post said something about a MIDI switcher. Marcus at VHT said to check out http://www.axess-electronics.com and Amp Gizmo. They Axess well work with some of my other heads. Thats were I am going.

I'm cool with "smoother" as long as it's not "muffled" sounding in a band setting. I used to dial in the UL to where it was a little muffled, then I brightened it up at this last gig and it sounded better to me.

I really dig the D60 and I expect to really dig the Sig:X. We'll see... :)
I don't think it's muffled by any means. So far the amp done everything I needed it to do rather well.
Including having a instrument level pedal in the loop.

I use the clean in 40 turned up to 11-1 o'clock (hot plate) boost on for chunk, off for cleans. You do not need a boost pedal for this. The next channel - 40 in less mode. Lead - 100 - more mode. I still fuck with the voice switches and the rest a lot - but this way with volume/pick-up selector on the guitar. I can do the whole history of electric guitar. With the boost switcher on the pedal it is more like a 6 channel amp. The clean channel is more like a non-master amp than a clean channel. All three channels do great cleans. And like Ed said it works great with effects of all colors. The 40/100 changes the tone/ feel more than volume. I was thinking more like you when I got it. Now I know each of the channels can do more than a few tones.

Too add to what Steve said...
Yes 40 watt is tube, 100 watt is SS recto. Difference in volume is about 3 dB. Big diff is the feel/squish factor.
I usually use clean in 100 watt with the volume at 1, lead and rhythm at 40 with the master at 3 o'clock.

This is what I think is cool about this amp. Ed and I probably are really different in amp and music tastes and here with the same amp we can get tones we both like. I actaully run mine opposite of Ed where I only use the 40 watt mode on the clean channel. 100 watt for the the other two. I prefer the feel of that on the gain channels. Crazy that with the same amp we can find the tone AND FEEL we like for two different players. Also I think Chris nailed it with his inpout. BTW The looop on it is really good too.

BTW..... UPS just dropped off my G System.

Side note...
In my rack I don't use a gate, and when I used to use the Mesa T-verb and stopped playing I always have to swtch on the clean channel so it's super quiet. Like when there was band stops type shit. Wiht the G system I programmed the gat to take care of that and that works fantastic in any gained out amp.

You're probably right, I don't think Ed really cares for Anne Murray and Helen Reddy.

:hys: Maybe but have you heard Ann Murray rip out Mr. Scary? She nails it. :D

I bet that G System rocks hard. Be sure to report back! I thought about going back to a Boss GT8 to use it with the Sig:X, but I dunno.

I've been gigging with minimal effects for the past 1 1/2 years. My board has an EHDMM that I never use, a BYOC Phaser that I never use, and OD pedal that I never use, and a Boss TU2 tuner pedal that I use constantly. I have run reverb/delay in the loop in quite a while, but I do miss it a little bit.

I'm either going to switch to only using the TU2 pedal tuner and a modded Budda BudWah or sell a few things to get another GT8 and run it using the 4 cable method with the Sig:X. Not sure what I'll do.

I'll let you know what I think of the GSystem. I liked the GT8 but I found it did color the sound more than I wanted it to. Im hoping the GSystem works better. If you arent a big effects guy IMHO for tone preservation I'd stick with a Strobo Stomp with true baypass and the BuddaWah you wanted. For some songs I play on I like to do really atmospheric stuff over the other guitar parts to give some other textures. For stuff like that Im a FX nut but you are right for most of the parts I dont use effects.

I have a few different set-ups and the G sys is my go to thin with an amp with a loop for the Country band. It's just easy, very little to go wrong and does what I need.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I'll do. I can easily get by with just a pedal tuner period. I rarely use wah, OD, phaser, etc... I can go an entire night without using anything.

I gigged for years with a little verb on all the time and delay for leads. If I went back to a single guitar band, I'd probably go back to using those effects. But with two guitars blaring, you really don't hear alot of those little things and it's almost not even worth it to me now. I like the easier setup too.

Heck, I may just get me a strobostomp and not even use a pedalboard anymore right now. Just a tuner and the controller for the Sig:X.
BTW, FWIW the Sig X is the only amp I have I'm happy to play without delay.
Have you heard the reamp clips I did with Fly Angus riff throough the Sig X?

Yeah spunds like to me a tuner and the VHT contoller and your good. I would waste time or the monmey on things you wouldnt use FX's wise.

Thanks for the input Ed. Thats exactly what I want with the GSystem..... something smaller and more grab go rig. I have two pedal boards full of pedals. I like those pedals alot but to go out and play with them isnt that practical. At home in my studio all those pedals are fun and just fine. Ive been reading the manual and studying it the last week in what little free time I have. But it seems simple enough and Ive researched how I want to run it. Im pretty sure I'll like it and I will give it alot of time to mess with and get my levels and settings right. I think some who have tried it just pluged it in pulled up some factory settings. I dont think you can judge from that.

When it comes to shaping the color and feel this amp pretty much takes the cake. Each channel can do more than most amps. From vintage to modern it's all there. It took a few weeks to see how the switches/knobs interact. But now that I know it - it is easy to get where I want to go. I do not see one way to run the amp. I would set the channels for the tones needed for what needs to be done. I sold all my digital gear years ago. I belive I am going to pick up a G-Sharp to round out my pedals (Ground Control Pro/ 2 GCX) this week.

I did some comparison between the D60 and the SigX this weekend and I agree with Ed.
I can dial in the Rhythm channel *very* close to the D60 though.

;) Why mess with a good thing is what I say.

Very true! If I followed that rule, I'd still have my first tube amp (a 5150 half-stack.)

I would understand (kind of anyway lol) if you were swapping for something that was different and of equal value. I've never played the Sig-X, but I'd like to. I don't want to play one bad enough to trade a flagship model that I'm totally happy with for it though. From the descriptions I've read I don't know that the X will have the punch that you like in the UL. Mebbe I'm wrong though. /shrug
