I love that! Was that in 40W mode? I love the sag. I want to play that amp! Mine won't leave VHT until Thursday or Friday so sometime next week I should have it.
Rhythm channel on the highest gain setting switch wise in 40 watt yup...all control at 2 oc'lcok, except treble at 3 o'clock. Rahbek Sparkle Tele with low output Fralins.

wow that was a very nice lead sound ed! me likey
Thanks. I'm actually really partial to the big open G chord in the end and the muted 16th triplets.
That thing is my fave gain head, feels fantastic and sounds great. In the past getting the tone wasn't the issue but hih gainers never felt right for me.

Sounded pretty good. So what did VHT do to cut costs on the Sig-X? Did they use cheaper transformers, PCB boards or something?

I doubt it. For starters the Ultra Lead is a 4 power tube amp, with graphic etc...
And it is their flag ship model. I like to think that in 20 years oc building channel swtchers you learn enough about the process to make stuff more effectively...

cool - expecting a report asap, I'm starting to really jones for one of these

I read somewhere that VHT found new ways to assemble their amps, cutting costs dramatically. But the quality is the same as it's always been. I can't vouch for that personally, but I think I saw Steve Fryette say that on the http://www.vhtusers.com forum.

Chris

It would seem that would make the price of all their amps go down unless the new processes would require them to basically redesign them. Well that's cool if they've been able to keep the quality up and still have the price be lower.

Woo hoo! Just checked the FedEx site for the heck of it and it shows the Sig:X being delivered today, not tomorrow. And I just happened to be home from work today! :)

Only got a few minutes with the amp but it's quite a bit different than the UL both in tone and feel. Sounds good, but I need ALOT more time with it before I start making serious comments and stuff. One thing I noticed is that the rotary EQ controls are much more sensitive than the other VHT amps I've owned. It seems like it anyway?

Chris

So you're saying you already want the UL back? ;)

dammit  i was doing a good job of not worrying about the one i've got ordered untill this thread, now i'm starting to gas for it pretty bad!

No way! I'm not saying that. I said that it does sound and feel different than the UL, which I expected. I just had another round on it and it sounds pretty darn good, man. Everyone comments on the "feel" and I know exactly what they're saying. It feels GREAT. Sound is killer too and it has tons of options.

I have it dialed in right now for 6 killer tones (three channels, normal and boost per channel) and the effects loop for a lead volume boost. It's a very nice amp. I hope to get more time with it later today and for sure this weekend. :)

And it'll keep getting better the more you play with the switches and the controls because you'll get a better idea of how they react and change the tone which will help you get where you are wanting to go with it. If someone really really likes the feel and tone of the UL then the SigX may not be their thing. It will be a good amp for those guys who want a bit more classic feel than the UL delivers. Yep the feel of the SigX does it for me. Wait until you play it live.... it'll cut for you really nice. Another thing I notice is its so musical to me...... you can be playing and just turn towards the cab and get this really musical feed back thats so controllable.

Yeah, the feel is great! Right now, I have the clean on 40watt/tube rectifier, the crunch on 40watt/tube rectifier, and the lead channel on 100watt/ss rectifier mode. Sounding good!

Hows it sounding through the D412? BTW my Roccaforte should be back at the end of the week.

I know I've been busting your chops a tad, but this is really why I think you'll want the UL back. You're loving this amp right now (as you should it's a VHT for Pete's sake!), but I remember what you loved about the UL was the punch. I can't imagine an amp using a tube recto being anywhere NEAR as punchy as a UL even if it is a VHT amp. You said that the punch from the UL is what you were always missing in other amps. I do actually hope you like the Sig-X enough not to regret it, but does it have the punch you like, or are you "over" wanting a puncy amp?
