I realized something last night... The Sig:X has bias test points inside the amp with brief instructions on the board (I think the Deliverance has these too.) The interesting thing is that there is a bias adjustment pot for the HIGH power mode and another for the LOW power mode. I didn't find any instructions online about how to do this, but I assumed that the "high power" recommended setting of 135VDC (or something like that) means to adjust the high power bias pot with the amp in high power mode (100 watts) and the recommended "low power" setting of 140VDC means to adjut the low power bias pot with the amp in low power mode (40 watts.)

I did that and it seemed to work great. The low power bias setting was spot on, but I had to adjust the high power bias setting a little bit.

Can anyone confirm I did that right?

Also, the clean channel has quite a bit more background noise (hiss) than the high gain channels. What's up with that? That doesn't make sense to me. Bad preamp tube or do others hear this same thing on their Sig:X amps?

I havent noticed any noise in the clean at all but let me check and post back Chris.

This makes sense remembering some of the stuff I talked to Steve about.
The hiss on the clean channel is a bad pre-amp tube I'd say. Mine is dead quite on h clean. With the volume above noon.

I'm not sure if it's right but that's how I did it too. With mine the 100W bias was way too low (.1 V instead of .135 V).

My clean channel initially had a lot of hiss too. I changed the high gain chinese 12AX7 for an old 12AT7. Much less hiss and much more clean headroom

Hey, I received my Sig:X yesterday and what should I say, it´s by far the best amp I´ve ever played/heard. I think it has more than enough gain and sounds awesome in every gain setting. I´m totally blown away so far :) What a feeling this amp provides...unbelievable

But now I have to get a D212 Cab for my new baby... :D

They make a D212?

Yeah I think so! http://www.musicstore.de/is-bin/INT...GIT0009472-000&ProductUUID=0&JumpTo=OfferList

Hmm, the background noise on the clean channel is louder on my sig:x too....(without pedals in front it´s nearly quiet though). But the rhythm/lead is always very quiet:)

@GIGA: Have you changed the V1 or the V5 ?? (I´m a tube-change noob^^)

Hey Chris according to Steve the bias should be 110 in high power mode not 135.

They do make a Deliverance version but thats not one. Thats a fat bottom one.

Maybe it's pissed at you for neglecting it all these years...

Really? It says 135VDC (I think it's "VDC") for the high power mode on the PCB. It's printed there on it near the bias test points??? It also says 140VDC for the low power mode.
Just passing on what Steve said...

Anyone else hear the hiss on the clean channel? That's backwards... There should be more hiss on the high gain channels, but that's not what I hear!!!

That does seem odd to me. Maybe SF "re-routed" the hiss to make the cruncier channels quiet because most people that play VHT's don't care about the clean channel? ;) I hope you sort it out. Maybe just try some different tubes in there? Sovtek LPS's are pretty quiet aren't they?

Chris , I called Marcus @ VHT and mentioned this to him after I tried 2 different SiG X's at Drumcity Guitarland and they both had a slight background hiss , but only on the Clean channel .

I though it was a bad preamp tube also , but I contacted VHT and talked with Marcus and he talked to Steve Fryette and got back to me saying it was completely normal as the clean channel hasn't a master volume . That channel starts off as if the volume is more opened up.

I also thought it was odd  but not really a big deal I guess .

Give Marcus a call and he can confirm this .

:)

Hey Chris, let me know when we can get together. I'd like to hear the amp through the d cab.

Hey Chris ,

Please give me your magic bias settings because that amp never sounded that good before !

Chris ,
I'm glad your diggin the amp . I thought you would .

I Ultralead finally arrived yesterday , and what can I say but it sounds better than I remember !

I guess all those weekend gigs you put on it did the amp some good because to my ears it doesn't seem quite as stiff as it was before . I mean it is still tight and fast as a laser , but it seems to have a slightly more juicy vibe than I remember .

I'm glad it all worked out !

Very cool!!! I did check/set the bias a few times, including right before I packed it up for ya. I don't remember for sure, but I think it may have been a little "off" when I got it from you (not your fault, I don't mean it that way.)

Glad you're enjoying it! It was a great amp!

I noticed that the knobs in front of the amp become quite hot when playing a while. Is that normal?

Another thing I noticed is that when I hit the boost button twice while the clean channel is active (footswitch), the amp switches to the lead channel and the footswitch still says clean channel. Could you please test this on your amp?

I´ve contacted the support and think they will tell me how to fix it soon. The support in the VHTusers forum said that it´s not normal but it would be easy to fix it and I should contact their email support:)

I´m curious whether the support in the forum is Steve himself
