Were talkin riffs people, the boy has some huge riffs. Crushing riffs. Mute Fred durst, and just hear the crunch factor!

He's certainly no Tony Iommi...

Yeah I'm not really hearing these crushing riffs people are talking about. I could probably list hundreds of guitarists who I think create better "crushing riffs."

1. Mikael Akerfeldt.
2. Most other guitarists who have written anything even vaguely heavy.

Slipknot sucks...takes 8 guys to make nothing but noise.

Soothing noise you old fart!

All electric guitar is noise and they all suck, the only good music is mozart, bach!

The fact that wes is a nut job and makes noisey guitar shit is what I dig!

When i think of detuned and 1 finger chord junk Limp quickshit comes to mind. Ok, I'm admit most of the negative vibe is aimed at durst but I don't have much else from Boreland to go by. He's got some videos on Youtube where his clean playing sounds better than his heavy playing. There's plenty of other bands from that time period that I like and Limp Dikstick isn't one of them.  I think I even like the guy from Lincoln Park better than Boreland.

Heavy as fuck, that dude always throws down. The unquestionable truth song has the fattest (Diezel) tone ever.
Yep, and Fred Dumbass is actually (almost) tolerable on that album. His lyrics/singing/rapping are fucking terrible on the new one. Wes, Sam and Jon should can Fred IMO. Maybe His cheesy rap vox worked back then, but they've made their millions and IMO should grab a new vocalist and do something really great for the genre now.

Blacklight Burns is cool but doesnt showcase his heavy side. It's a shame that Fred is such a turd. The rest of the guys are Uber talented.

And BTW, I think there is some Uber mixed with that Diezel tone.

As a man who dresses up in a tutu and plays electric kazoo for people, I must stand up in defense of nut-jobs everywhere!

Good artists are always unique. The reason Wes always wore the outfits and stood out in that band is so that he didn't fit in. The rest of them are just regular old trend following nobodys. He made a statement and really made that band. Honestly, what were they when he was gone??? They did something unique and got famous for it. That is how it works.

If you only ever play music like everyone else, you only ever fit in. People will never notice you when you fit in. When you stand out, that's when people remember you. You open up for Kitty in your hometown and dress in drag and you'll be known in the seen.

Not to mention the feeling of freedom you get for being different. Go play your next show in a banana costume for no reason any you'll see what I mean.

Not closet at all... I've liked a lot of their stuff over the years. 'Faith', 'Nookie', Re-Arranged', 'My Way'... For sure, there's been some great foot stompers by this band, and ultimately, I like Wes's work with a 6 string, and I like their approach in melding hip-hop with nu-metal. I listened to them a lot, same era as Korn for me.

Don't hate me....

entering late here, but I've always liked Wes's goofy costumes/paint etc...seems to support his style. John 5 on the other hand looks like a complete tool (IMHO) and despite his incredible skill, the look makes him come across like he's starving for attention or something. I get it with Wes, don't get it with J5. Just sayin.

No.. it never worked. Not ever.

As for their guitarist, I'm sure he's talented... I'll have to take your word for it, as I'm certain that I'll never subject myself to another one of their tunes. That's pretty much the nicest, gentlest thing I have to say about them.

This from the dude who dishes on the 80's icons (Lynch, Demartini, etc) who recorded "huge riffs" that are still revered by many to this day. :jerkit: Substute any of those guys for Borland and read your own quote.

I like lynch, Demartini, mars , Aldrich , evh, but also like Borland, Mick Thompson, etc

I like alot of music that most people think suck and I'm not embarrassed about it .

To each his own \m/

Okay, all deliberations and contemplations aside, it all comes down to one thing...

Jennifer Swift

Which I guess makes it come down to a `number` of `things` but we`ll leave those details to the resident fappers.

EOM

I thought Borland quit and was replaced by some dude from that Guitar Center Audition Tour about ten years back? ;)

That was Mike Smith, and that ended a long time ago. And not for nothing, but he is also a very established guitarist in the metal world as a hired gun and also I believe he was in the band SNOT.

Anyway - I love Wes. He does the job of 2 guitarists and sounds even fuller. He writes riffs that still warp my mind, he uses the whammy so smoothly it inside riffs it blows my mind.
