Aware that I simply said yes to this poll, so would like to share my experience and meaning behind that with this short mildly intoxicated rant.
Just tune whatever guitar to the occasion, but love the feedback that I feel with with drop A or a full step to where I don't consider it so much drop tuning as much as shifting the position of the strings for comfort if I'm not using E4 or a 7+ string. Have noticed all guitars resonate better at certain/different frequencies, so once I find where that is on a specific one usually leave that particular instrument there along with the appropriate strings and setup that feel best.
Definitely have some weird tunings and ones that are off by a few or more cents, just because it works. I find wherever the best resonating/feedback/acoustics happen makes me more inclined to pick up an instrument. Doesn't have to be standard or even A standard on an 8 string (three full steps down) the instrument just becomes more inspiring for me to play and both forces me to focus on differing techniques and actually come up with new stuff easier than trying to find a different path from what's common. Some of the tuning inspiration comes from hearing something I may at one time believed is impossible to play until I realized that more than likely there was a tuning trick that was involved to play that fast.
I don't play in a band anymore or do covers very often, so I'm not really subject to cohesion which I've found is a kind of freedom in itself to moving away from worrying about what others are doing. That said; I'm still most impressed by those who play common tunings at speed and originality with bands/mixes.
