Where ya wana go?

I have dreams. I tell my wife, the time is now to GTFO of the northeast. The thing is, if you're not motivated as fuck, 10 years goes by in a flash.
Tired of fucking snow and winter. 6 months no sun.
Where to go?
North Carlolina - Same fucking weather, unless you're in the southern portion right? People problem as well.
I'm thinking rural southern TN. I do better around rednecks.
Costa Rica? Bugs don't die in the winter like MA, they keep growing. I'd need the most advanced bug killing system on the planet to life there. Fucking hate bugs.

If you hated Winter, and the lack of sun, and freezing your ass off for 6 months, where would you go?
If you can deal with rain, and liberals Democrats - Oregon ain’t bad.

My old man moved to Florida and the rest of the family moved there as well. 4 kids with their families. A couple of us live in TX now but you couldn't pay me to move back up north where I came from. Shitty people, shitty prices, shitty taxes, shitty weather, shitty music scene, shitty politics. Only thing is I miss my old man these days, looking to fix that, but at least I am in dixie.

Life is what you make out of it. Taxes and Politics suck in New York but the rest is good. I really enjoy performing at all the Wineries and Breweries that popped up since covid and the Hudson Valley is beautiful. If they could shave off a month or 2 of winter that would be great.

Move them with you.

lol ... how much money do you think I make at these Winery Gigs ?

It is what you make out of it, and choosing to live in a more suitable location is what I made out of it. Playing more guitar and working less means needing low recurring bills. I have lower bills here, built my own place unpermitted, and play lots of guitar so that's pretty nice.

BTW I def wasn't bashing on NY people. I worked in tourism for many years and New Yorkers were never the problem children as a whole. Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, Massachusetts pretty much beat everyone in that department, in that order.

I left suburbia for rural, the difference in property price was 1 million per acre vs 15k an acre. And property taxes were 1/3.

Do you own a home?

Wineries and breweries have the most boring, disinterested crowds around here IME. It's next to an HD parking lot gig in terms of excitement. I don't play music for winers or golf types but I have played enough breweries to gag a maggot. Money greases the wheels but it's not my motive for playing.

Cool. Whatever works

I'm retired from the Medical field with No pension. I gig 60-100 times a year to make up for no pension. Solo gigs are good here in New York since covid so I play a ton of guitar.

lol.... glad you clarified. There was a lot of shittys in that previous post.

Taxes and Politics are the worse in N.Y. I dont discuss Politics with the locals and I don't have a answer for the shitty taxes :(

Its not for everyone but it's my job. Retired from the Medical Field with no pension. , Solo gigs is what keeps me going. Its way better than working at the Home Depot

You can buy 2 homes with the equity of yours in another state. Could be as close as PA.
Very true. My House is worth a lot of money now but I'm not leaving my granddaughter. I love being 15 minutes away from her.

I could get a bunch of solo/duo stuff going but I'm in it for the group combos so that's my main focus. That's my joy. I have found there are some gigs where working at home depot is the better option but for the most part I agree with you so I keep most in-season weekends booked with those.

My dilemma is I'd like to join a band or duo but I dont want the cut in money. I dont make a ton of money doing solo gigs but for example: This weekend I've got 3 gigs. I'll make $1000 roughly. If I was at Home Depot I'd make shit $. Play in a band around here and you're lucky if you make $100 a gig.

Not only that but the whole band thing is kinda dead here. Bands play restaurants and Bars and are expected to bring people. I see tons of videos on Facebook with bands that have like 10 people at the gigs. There are exceptions but it's tough out there in gig land. One of the wineries I play at I've played over 45 times this year. Not every gig is awesome but many of them have 400-600 people. Last weekend it was slow and I think we had 75-100 people and the best part .... I DON'T NEED TO BRING PEOPLE TO THE GIG.

And beautiful Drunk winery women telling you you're awesome at every gig is also a big plus

But you can buy a house for your son and daughter. A paid for home with low property taxes is a burden lifter.

Sounds horrible and I don’t mind the rain.
And….It’s absolutely crawling with trans people and I am not even exaggerating. I see between 5 and 10 every single day. I got into it with one at TMobile a few months back. I’m inflexible when it comes to protecting my personal intellect. I’m not gonna play pretend because you choose to. It’s a fucking free-for-all here for the dims.

I hear you. I cut a lot of junk band gigs out and gig a little less but make about the same chasing quality band gigs. 125-250 per man. I'd like to add a fifth member on keys but the budget ain't quite there yet. I"m hoping to make a few moves this next year that might make it happen if things work out.

We aren't expected to bring people out much down here. The clubs have their own clientele and there is too much live music for that to be expected everywhere. If I could bring 50 people out to every show I'd just charge 15-20 per head and put the money in my pocket, not book their shitty club, lol. Those "how many people can you bring in" clubs don't work very well around here.

I can't say it was easy but, the best thing I ever did.
I have been thinking about doing that for at least one of my kids but I gotta sell my place here first cause all my $$$ is tied into it.

Pretty much all Bars and Restaurants in my area are like that. The struggle is real

I don't have to worry about bringing people to Wineries and Breweries. 🍷:m17:
Thats one big reason why I play them.
