Finally got around to doing this, wanted to dial them similarly to show if one can do the other. Ironically they were both pretty close to dialed in this way even before the shootout. We definitely all gravitate towards our tone no matter what. I used GGD contender series here as we have a baby in the house. Used my st rock react ir for it, best load box out there IMO. If I recorded a micd clip vs these I really doubt anyone here would be able to tell the difference. Anyway, here you go.

There is a time stamp for when I boost it.

I’ll add, because unfortunately I need to every single time… I play metal. If you don’t cool.

Here is a double track file as well so it gives an even more honest representation that you’d hear. These are boosted here with an OD808. First is MC, then MTL. If it doesn’t play click the arrow and it’ll open up the drive page.

Cool video. I agree with the descriptions. The MC also seems a bit more open with some of that glassy 6L6 character. Would be cool to also hear the Hell Razor compared to these 2

i like your riffs. Audio sounds kinda boxy and dark. But i bet in person sounds awesome, man.

thick and clear ............man they both sound really good .....that MTL though .... Fudge !!

i dont know man, you're a really good player with a ton of cool amps with clips i think sound great, so dont think im knocking you in any way, and i hate to always be the only one bashing wizards, but just keeping it 100 as i hope and expect everyone would with me when i post clips.. both these sounds terrible :dunno: both are loose, raggidy, bloated, muffled and i just dont know. i know now ill get the same responses and probably some PM's like i always do from wizards owners attacking me for my opinions, but the whole wizard thing is something i just dont understand

Hey man, we all have our own opinions. All good! I do think before the boost they’re pretty meh for what I try to do, afterward come alive. I will say wizards… they do have this mid range that I feel like VHTs do as well. Total love or hate thing. And it really stands out the second you throw a mic in front of it or run it through an IR. In a mix I’d eq it pretty hard, but that’s not an honest representation to the amp. For someone potentially buying something.

VHT’s I never really dug either for basically the same characteristics I hear in wizards, but you’re deliverance clip might be my favorite outside that gz recto, so I guess you just never know

....Aand this is why you need to try one in person....because, once yet again, the CLIPPZZZ thing rears its ugly head yet again. I get that every clip not everyone will dig. But, anyone who's ever heard/played a Wiz in person is usually impressed...maybe not 5-7K impressed but still impressed.

Every amp that you bash because of DA CLIPPZZZ is a really great amp in the room...SLO, Wizards....which proves to me exactly why I could care less about clips, or peoples opinions of them. They really don't define any amp, ever.

Excellent comparison video!

Modern Classic: More "Marshally" flavor, tighter, clankier.
MTL: More unfiltered preamp low end and more gain on tap. Sounds almost like Wizard's take on a Recto but with more clarity.

I preferred both amps boosted. I also boost my MC2 in one way or another most of the time. However the MTL being naturally looser or "fuller" to put it nicer, means it's probably more versatile overall if you want to use it for lower gain tones, modern rock, messy grunge tones, etc.

With both amps boosted, the MTL sounds fuller and more suited to modern metal and gigantic wall of sound rhythm tones, as the boost removes the extra low end weighing down the preamp without thinning out the sound overall. However the boosted MC is clearer and seems like it would work better for stuff like thrash or any playing that needs more clarity or has more chord complexity, or more technicality demanding playing. With the MC, the boost increases the gain while exaggerating the clank in a good way.

Both amps are awesome.

I much prefer the MC here. Is that the MC or MC2?? Has all the gain I could want and I'm a metal guy. Damn it, this doesn't help my Wizard GAS!
