Wow! I realize that I'm fairly new to the forum as of last year but WTF is going on? I enjoy reading what a lot of people post about their experiences with different amps, mods, etc! I hope MailMan doesn't leave as his opinions on various amps I liked and I can tell that he has a taste for amps that I like! Can we all please act our age not our IQ! I tend to believe that most of the folks on this forum who post have to be at least in their late 20's… correct me if I am wrong. We all can't agree on everything which should be understood! The romp a room has to stop. I swear some of you guys could get laid and then complain about feeling all sticky!

I disagree with it being a buyers responsability tondo anything but plug a cord and a speaker cable in turn it on and play it. All the profound statements about *you should be prepaired to swap tubes isnt part of the sale..unless I am missing something, does it say under the agreement or manual* swap tubes in arrival? Not. If it was a made in China mass production amp maybe so. It's a boutique piece of expensive gear so i think its horse shit. His money works* that he purchased it with. I am sure it will be resolved by DF no question. If the tubes are the issue how does it leave the factory? It's the shippers fault? Shipping tube amps is a challange so what the hell do you do ask them to pull the tubes and bubble wrap them individually? Regardless it sucks for a new product line debut that is on backorder.

Tubes go bad, it's a fact of life. What worked at the factory, could easily go south soon after. A $3500 Friedman is just as susceptible to a tube going bad as a $300 Jet City, so I'm with the posters who have a steady supply of preamp tubes on hand, for that reason. It's happened to me before, multiple times, and not once did I blame the manufacturer for a bad tube, that's just unreasonable.

However, if I find that a tube isn't the issue, it ends there and it goes back for replacement, or refund. I don't tend to screw around with warranty repairs, shipping all over hell's half acre, letting it sit with a local tech for weeks on end, fuck that. That said, Sweetwater, (if stock permits), nips that in the bud and normally ships a new unit and a return label. They're tops in the industry when it comes to that, no doubt. They've been good to me, when it comes to issues beyond a bad tube. I bought a new Helios with a transformer issue, (a demo), and they shipped me a brand new one at the demo price, and a return label. But, with backorders, you're kinda in a tough spot.
It is supposed to work when you pull It out of the brand new box regardless of what tubes or Mary Freaking Poppins does or has done. I would not disagree with any possibilities happening with shipping. Shipping tubes is risky especially in an amp with weight. Have not seen a disclaimer on any I have bought. Sweetwater is a safe bet period.as is DF.

Whatever, dude. Tubes go without warning, (if this is the case). It's a fact of life, that any SANE tube amp owner/buyer/seller/builder/whatever, comes to grips with pretty early in life. $3500 doesn't buy piece of mind that a JJ preamp tube won't take a shit in a week. I've had that happen to brand new tubes bought from reputable dealers that test, grade, and screen for defects, as well.

I don't believe the gentleman in the YouTube video was the sharpest knife in the drawer. Again, any seasoned tube amp buyer/owner should have a stash of tubes. I know I probably have 50-60 preamp tubes of all makes/brands, 5751, AX7, AT7, NOS, current production, etc., as well as 3 or 4 sets of 6L6's, KT77's a pair of JJ 6CA7's, some EL84's and EL34's.
Whatever dude* let me know when it becomes standard policy on any tube amp for it not to work and be prepaired to replace tubes or any parts for that matter. I think anyone buying new anything expects it to work. I guess you buy 5 tires when you replace yours because one is supposed to be defective? Dave doesnt manufacture tubes so yea, I wouldn't disagree with you on your acceptance of tube failure. As posted earlier that isn't part of the buyer/seller agreement. Fact of the matter is there is no doubt about the customer support on this product, in this case thats really the only thing that matters. The reputation on the product line is no mystery

Every guitar player who plays a tube amp should have an emergency kit. I was playing with Greg Germino in Greensboro one year, and right in the middle of a song his amp quit. He quickly turned it off, popped the back off and checked the power, preamp tubes and his fuses.

Sure enough, a fuse had blown. He unzipped his emergency kit, in a portable shaving bag, and inside he had 4 fuses (1 of each type for the amp) and a complete spare set of tubes. He put in the right fuse and was back playing in 2 minutes, joining me for the end of the song.

If you play guitar and tube amps long enough, you learn to have spares for stuff like this.

The real culprit here is the spotty quality of current production tubes, and rarely the amp circuit. Pretty sure tube makers give amp builders a 90 day warranty on tubes, so that should tell you how much faith they have in their own products.

I only use NOS or ANOS tubes from the 50-80's. I've got two 19 gallon tubs full of them, and I have a tube tester to make sure they're good when I buy them.

When I used to make my own amps 14 years ago, I found that EH, JJ, Sovtek, etc all had about a 40% failure or "doesn't meet spec" rate.

Sorry the guy had this experience, but sh*t happens, and you need to be prepared when it does.

I don't disagree with you. I expect an amp to work out of the box, we ALL do. But, if it didn't, and I found a bad tube, I'd throw it away, replace it with one of many I keep on hand, and not blink an eye. It sure saves me, the dealer, and the builder, alot of time, money, and aggravation, having this mind-set, purchasing a tube amp. Tubes go south, for no reason, whatsoever. It's the nature of the beast.

Right on Napalm! Tubes are suspect. Scared to buy any honestly. Valve queen seems as legit as its going to get but as you mentioned they can go south anytime , I wish i knew more about nos and even used tubes guys sell , what happens when a 200 old tube goes out after owning it for a month..

I suppose it depends on where you buy it. Personally, I don't mess with expensive NOS power tubes, for that reason, and I really only have some NOS preamp tubes I bought from various places CHEAP. I had to throw away a Blackburn UK-made 12AX7 last year that was brand new, after it took a shit in a month. Luckily, I bought it through a friend, and got 2 of them for $25, (that's a steal).

I have some RCA, Sylvania, GE, and other various NOS 12AX7's I got from him as well. They're great sounding tubes, especially in Marshalls.

Thanks for your great coment Dave always helpful.. Ill bet 100% that its a bad jj first input tube. V1 its a JJ every so often they just die.. has nothing to do with shipping or anything. The fact that both channels do it tell me its V1. Which is why the pop.. who is it and where do we send you some?

Although I may take a shot across your bow every one in a while, I do respect that you chime in and help often.
Dave’s a great guy, so why do you feel it’s necessary to take shots period?
Good question. He gargles on that crook Cameron's balls, but takes shots at a class act like Friedman.
Pssshhh he’s been deepthroating Cameron for 8-10 years on this forum. Why would you expect that that to change any time soon? :dunno:

All these pros using Friedman’s amps on the low and who’s using Camerons but Dave the lawyer in his basement?.......

Funny thing is the best videos I remembered Dave ever posting were his markIII videos. They slayed. The Cameron vids were just some of the thousands of modded Marshall videos on YouTube.
