I've had both for a Friedman Runt 50, SC20H, and a Ceriatone 800. I preferred the Hot Mod V2. I normally kept the gain boost down. They work really well, and worth it.

If the cab is 8 ohms, plugging it into the 16 Ohm jack on the amp is not a good idea. Clean the 8 Ohm jack on the head. Sounds like it might need cleaning, or wiring issue. Doesn't it have 2 x 8 and 1 x 16 jacks on the amp?

Sounds like the input jack on the cab. Not sure if it's got different jacks or a switch. If there's a switch, spray it with Deoxit and switch it back and forth a few times. Clean the jacks too.

V2 is one of the best of the Friedman line, IMO, for tight, aggressive Marshall roar. I boosted mine with an SD-1, or a Zakk Wylde OD. It kills for thrash metal. V2 is a whole different animal than V1. More gain, more aggressive, more traditional Marshall. More high mid focused, brighter, and...
