Best "cheap" piece of gear you've ever bought

I'll chime in. My most used gear these days is not cheap, but significantly cheaper than a lot of my higher end stuff. A used Landry G3 and a used LSL. Not cheap, but cheaper than a lot of my other stuff and most used right now.

For the actual cheap gear--I bought a Korean made LTD EC-1000 when I was 16 and I played countless shows with it and had it on 2 albums. It sounded fucking awesome and plays fantastic. I'll never get rid of that thing.

Prices are creeping up, but a 6505+ and a Crate BV412 with V30s is a killer rig that will hold up against anything IMHO and at the time cost me about $800 for both. Probably can't get those prices now but still a bargain compared to most things.

All I have are cheap guitars. My #1 guitar for the last 10 years is my first First Act guitar I bought used from GC for $49. Other than wax potting the pickup, removing the tone knob and gluing a piece of wood veneer over the plastic pick guard it's stock. They were originally sold at Walmart during the mid 90's I think. I love it. I have two of them. One tuned to drop B and the other to drop C#. Those two guitars and my two Teiscos are my main guitars.

- unloaded eminence cab for 200$
- wgs speakers (veteran 30 and et65) before they raised price

My Yamaha 1968 acoustic. It works like a charm and I love it

A lot of people around here have some pretty insane, rare, expensive gear. I'm curious though, with all the incredible stuff people have in their arsenals, what is the best "cheap" piece of gear that you've ever bought?

1994 Laney GH100S

$525 cash. Hangs with amps in my Arsenal worth 6 times as much.

ADA 2FX Rack Analog Chorus

I paid $95 for mine on eBay many years ago. It’s currently in pieces waiting restoration (I moved in the middle of restoring it and I’ve not put it back together). One of my favourite mono chorus effects. I’ve also designed a mod that would make it stereo chorus.

The rest of my junk is the former of your post description ??

Does this mean something that is "cheap" or something managed to buy cheap but was still expensive? I'll try both.

Best cheap purchase (absolute) - Radial Bigshot ABY - $35, stayed as a part of my rig for a decade until I got a radial shotgun cus I needed more outputs...

Best purchase for cheap (relative) - JJ100, factory moded for white headshell and JBE master - $2400 w/free shipping.

I continue to try fancy ODs and always end up preferring the SD-1.
I bought another OD the same time as my $50 SD-1 and the SD-1 made the other one sound broken ?

Literally I use it on everything in my collection at all times and never turn it off. Just adds mids exactly where I like it and makes amps sound more pissed off. It’s essential for my marshall.

I’m with you man!!

Around 2001 I walked into the GC in Rockville, MD and spied an old Kramer Pacer - maple neck, beak headstock, OFR and EMGs for $220. I grabbed it, didn't even strum it and took it to the counter to pay.

Boss SD-1, man it hangs with any od at any price

This reminds me, over a decade ago I traded Valvequeen my old MXR Phase 90 for her Keeley modded SD-1. That thing is still my favorite boost pedal ever for all out br00talz. I do dig the stock one too though (had both at the same time)

I love my SD-1. It just makes the right noise. The Fortin 808 I have is my favorite pedal. It doesn't work for everything, but when it does it is unreal.

I bought a '97LTD Eclipse for $200 in the early 2000's. That thing played great. Dropped a JB in the bridge and it became my go-to guitar for gigging and especially recording. It sounded really good! As my collection expanded, i was playing it less and less till it ended up just sitting in a corner doing nothing for awhile. My roommate at the time started using it alot for recording and he even took it on tour with him as his bus guitar. He loved that thing. Then i let a friend borrow it for awhile, and he ended up buying it from my because i never asked for it back. He paid me $200, made my money back. Glad to know that guitar is in good hands and getting used. To this day that guitar was one of the best gear purchases I ever made.
