What are some of the best sounding delay pedals (let's say under $200).

Boss DD3?

Carbon Copy?

Looking something that works well in front of an amp, for an ambient delay, and the occasional slapback Nuno 'Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee' kind of thing.

TC Flashback sounds beautiful and they even make a Mini too

I've been using the Carbon Copy in the loop for years. Sounds great and stays out of the way.

Todd, I agree the Rockman is a great delay. I have a Chandler, and SDE3000, but I need a pedal for this particular situation. I'm leaning towards a Boss DD3, but maybe I'll check out the Carbon Copy. . .a lot of guys seem to be using them.

The Flashback X4 is hard to beat from a price/versatility standpoint. If you are going for a more "vintage" tone and want to keep it simple, I'd go with the MXR Carbon Copy or the new Carbon Copy Bright. If you are seeking a good, clean delay with clarity, I have yet to find a delay that beats the Boss DD-7 for the money. For more modern or metal tones, the DD-7 (or previous DD versions) do the job well without overly coloring your sound and can be had for not a lot of cash. Of course if you want to spend a bunch, the Strymon and Eventide pedals are kick ass.

The thing about delays is they all are pretty good. They should really stay out of the way and not affect tone too much (unless you want analog degradation).

It's really about options. Do you want tap tempo, analog, digital, multiple settings, etc.....?

Boss DD-3 for sure, it sounds better than the DD-7 even though it has less features. There's just something about the way it tails off that is very natural compared to most other pedals that I've tried.

It's tried and true...

Have you looked at the "Carbon Copy Bright" by PGS? A little brighter than the regular CC...

I really like the Flashback X4. Three presets, sounds great, tap tempo, not too pricey.

Carbon Copy. I'd also look at the Vapor Trail. Read good things about it and their 805 overdrive pedal turned out to be a winner. I don't like the Flashback but I'm not a fan of digital delay so YMMV.

I came across Strymon pedals recently on youtube. They seem to be very good and now I am really curious about them. But it looks like they have 4 or 5 different delay pedals. So hard choices. And not very cheap.

If you like the Carbon Copy...try it at 18v.

It gets GOOD!

I'm a huge CC fan...but when I tried it at 18v I realized that's how the pedal is supposed to sound.

Thanks for the heads up.
