Best Delay Pedal?

I love the carbon copy. If you want something with reverb too the EQD dispatch master was really good as well as the Keeley Caverns...

Having said that I always come back to the Carbon Copy. I dont know what it is about it but it just sounds kinda warm or soft of something. Just all around pleasant.

Check out the Boss DD500 that is coming out.
I finally bought the DD-500 this summer 5 years after posting about it in this thread. The sound and amount of control is extensive. The simulations of vintage and everything forward are all there.
I compared it directly with the Timeline and Source Audio stuff and just liked the sound better. Subjective bias. Since owning it I tried it next to several of my vintage analog and digital delays. It gets extremely close to the sounds of all of them and way more control.

So.... all that being said for rack quality like delays with great algorithym models, ease of use, flexibility, stereo/mono routing, layered delays you cannot go wrong with the Boss DD500 version 2.0. I use the SDE3000 and echoplex EP3 models the most... both sound excellent.

is version 2.0 a software or hardware version (ie did they update the physical pedal at some point)?

Software update. It takes less than 5 minutes to do. They are currently on version 2.1.
2.0 was a major update with several algorithms added.

I updated mine a few months ago on the Boss website.

Look for an EQD Dispatch Master version 1 on the cheap bias revert to, but so much versatility for the price and you don’t have to use the reverb

I have all the heavy hitter delays and to me, the Free the Tone stuff is superb. I have the Flight Time and the Future Factory and both are amazing. All of their pedals are amazing. The Chorus and Reverb is very impressive and I would put them up against anything at any price point.

I have been very happy with the Pigtronix Echolution 2 I've been running for a few years. Before that I was also extremely happy with the Eventide TimeFactor.

With the PigTronix, I like plugging it into my computer and creating presets digging into deeper parameters than you can with just the knobs. If you're willing to do this, then even the most basic Echolution 2 pedals are just as powerful as the ones with more tactile knobs.

the boss dd-2 was always my favorite. i have a dd-3 with the small chip rn, and its still good, but that long chip in the dd-2 was the shit.

Carbon Copy, Malekko 616, Cmatmods Deeelay but my current favorite is the Vick Audio Hypocenter.

All under $100 used.

Oldschool... Still rockin' my original Eventide TimeFactor.

Still....

I sometimes look at other delays, sometimes even test drive 'em, but just shrug it off and realize what I have has worked for well over a decade and will likely continue to work for another decade or more.

I still love the old Guyatone MD3. I've had it for a crazy long time (15+ years) and it work with every amp I've ever used it with. I've tried all of the old favorites like the DD2, DD3, etc and the guyatone just works and sounds better.

Great pedal. Love mine. Also like the DD-3 and the Fractal version of the 2290 and the 2290 in the TC Plethora pedal. Also the modulated delay in the Digitech Hardwire delay is pretty awesome.

Fractal FM3
I agree with this... some of those delay blocks are incredible... perhaps the H9 Max (Eventide) would be a solid competitor, but I use the FM3 as my main amp/cab tones, and so... use the delay in that unit. I have to get back at the H9 Max and play around with all the options to see what it can do better (certainly capo stuff or drop tuning, as with the FM3 (even at 100% wet) you still hear the original tone, which defeats the friggin' purpose.

I also used the Timefactor for a while before switching to the original Echolution 2 Deluxe. For me personally the E2D is just better in every way. Been one of my all time favorite pedals ever since. I liked it so much that when my original E2D was apparently stolen, I replaced it with the E2 Filter Pro.

Even if I only really use 1% of what they are capable of, they just always sound and feel right to me.

My Carbon Copy is my altimeter favorite!!!

Nobody tried/use the Providence Chrono Delay or the Strymon DIG?

My favorite delay...

One of the best delays on the planet. Their Modulated Delay is also exceptional. They don't make a bad pedal IMO.

The new Pigtronix is nice for a simpler delay as is the Universal Audio pedal.

The Heavy Hitters are all wonderful (Empress, Boss DD-500, Strymon, etc) but the Free the Tone pedals ROCK!
