A lot of his youtube videos sound good to me. Guy is off his rocker, though. And build quality is horrible.

Build & tone are both horrible and a joke IMO.

Most of his clips were done with the same shitty PV cab that sound like a PV SS with a metal zone pedal.

Like him or not, he shows pics of his work, puts it out there, and ships the product he sells.

What is worse? A guy you laugh at that ships out the homegrown chop shop amp as promised, or a half assed guy that laughs at you, takes your money, and never ships your amp.

I have no problem with what he is doing except for the fact that the one example I've seen internals on is a danger to human life. I'm not OK with that because people will think all small builder's amps are dangerous.

I agree with your disagreement. No reasonable person is going to look at one man's crappy wiring job and make a blanket generalization that all small, boutique builders do the same.

i think a LOT of people live by assumption....take for example the 99% of OTHER guitar players on the planet that DONT log in to this site, or others every day....and see that type of boutique work...and assume either:

A. "i should buy a marshall or peavey or mesa cause those boutique guys are fucking idiots"
B. "those forum builders are fucking morons, have you ever heard of that DAR debacle, or the cameron thief?"


i think Henning is spot on....and blades isn't helping the situation. i've done my own mods, and wouldn't ever put something out the door that looked like the nightmare in some of those pics. is the tone good? yeah....but, at risk to lighting someone up.... it's a shitshow. at best.

If the other 99% of guitarists out there, as you say: "DON'T log in to this site, or others..." then how would they know about Billy Blades or any of the other boutique builders out there in the first place? So how would they even think to ask themselves the two questions you stated?

See, nobody would know about those boutique guys unless they're on these forums. And nobody would see Billy Blades' shoddy work unless they're on these forums. You think there are non-forum people out there who have ever heard of Billy Blades? And even if they have, you think they've heard of Henning? I doubt it.

How would someone come to the conclusion that "those forum builders are idiots" unless they've been on the forum in the first place? If they've never been on this (or any other) forum, then they wouldn't know about Billy Blades, or Cameron, or DAR in the first place. So again... I doubt any reasonable person is going to look at Billy Blades and generalize about every other builder out there. Because they only people who would know about it at all, are on the forums. And they're seeing what the rest of us are seeing.

i didnt say EVER log onto this site, or others (meaning other guitar related forums)..i said every day. they're not up on what's happening.

someone might come across his amp on youtube. or word of mouth. or facebook. buy one, (as has happened) then have something happen and could end up attributing ALL or MOST boutique builders to "that quality" is all i was saying. sheeple are sheeple.

i'd like to think a lot of the regulars here, WE know better....so, you have to take US out of the equation....i'd say most of us here are a little more educated as to whats going on and what's what. some guys just throw money around cause they have it, and the item is "hot". is that going to happen with blades? who knows....like i said, ONE guy can put a foul taste in enough people's mouths that some of the fringe forum lurkers say "fuck that shit, i'll just buy a mesa". all i was trying to convey, not so much as to shoot down your statement, just trying to give a different point of view.

personally, i'd buy from a builder here (henning, surreal, fortin, rhodes, bfg, etc) or one of their products used before i bought a mass produced amp. but that's just me.

You send money to some moron because you wish to buy a pre-assembled amp of quality.

You get a piece of shit amp that looks like it was built by someone with challenged fine motor skills, grossly impaired judgment and limited intellectual capacity.

You spend more money to personally fix said piece of shit.

You end up with a beautiful amp, but obtained it in exactly the opposite manner initially desired.

Anyways, congrats - it looks awesome.

True, but how much would you expect to pay for an amp like this built by a reputable builder? I guarantee you I spent a lot less. Not to mention the education I got in doing it. I win!

Thanks for the compliments guys! I had a blast doing it, learned a lot, exposed a hack, proved a total amateur could do a better job and ended up with the amp I've always wanted after all. It was all worth it to me.
