The sound is good because he stole it and it is a clone of Cameron's Jose High Gain amp! Everything else is an abortion and this "tattoo artist" turned engineer/technician has no business building amps. There were bare connections that could have killed someone. The soldering was the worst I've ever seen in 20 years in engineering with cold solder joints, blobs, frayed wires, wire insulation that was burnt through an not head shrinked, parts incorrectly hooked up, horrible tolexing, wavy lines in cabinet, loose piping, PVC porting, stupid 4x12 cab handle on top, stupid cup holder on a high voltage amp, ugly layout, color scheme and gold chicken heads that don't match anything...

On can go on an on. In the end, the guy has no business in even attempting to go into this business. Further, his word is shit and vowed not to and not in it for money. He has no idea about engnieering or what the amps really are doing, only cutting and pasting things together.

Since you requsted gut shots....enjoy! "...and remember, you buy cheap, you GOT cheap!" Pay a real tech/engineer to build you something...and guarantee their work.

The Legend of Billy Blades lives on here at Rig Talk? It sounds like it started here first? I'm new here but, I know the story from when it unfolded over at the Marshall Forum. It kind of died down over there but, it's probably a good thing that it's still talked about. Maybe, it will help to let others know about the quality of work he does? I was disgusted reading BB's replies over at MF. I don't know how one can think that way? I know I couldn't.

I have no problem with what he is doing except for the fact that the one example I've seen internals on is a danger to human life. I'm not OK with that because people will think all small builder's amps are dangerous.

You are in a different galaxy than Blades. Just my opinion. His pics show a rat nest. If anything, pics of builds and demo vids create separation. If anything I think it puts professional looking amps higher up the chain. Look at his cab work, look at the gut shots. Look at yours or Rhodes. Galaxies apart.

Right now, my trust and cash would be with Rhodes and the Cherry Bomb. Got the Rhodes, and unfortunately have lost enough recently in this crappy economy for a few Cherry Bombs.

The element of being ripped off is the main thing I consider. I'm not sure I will will buy another wait list amp. I will buy from people that build and sell out of stock like you do.

But my comment is to point out that if Billy builds an amp that does not burn your trailer down, power to him. At least he is not ripping people off like other infamous guys that ran a business on amp pre pays.

You do it right. Nothing but respect for being that way.

i think a LOT of people live by assumption....take for example the 99% of OTHER guitar players on the planet that DONT log in to this site, or others every day....and see that type of boutique work...and assume either:

A. "i should buy a marshall or peavey or mesa cause those boutique guys are fucking idiots"
B. "those forum builders are fucking morons, have you ever heard of that DAR debacle, or the cameron thief?"


i think Henning is spot on....and blades isn't helping the situation. i've done my own mods, and wouldn't ever put something out the door that looked like the nightmare in some of those pics. is the tone good? yeah....but, at risk to lighting someone up.... it's a shitshow. at best.

Your logic is fallacious.

If the other 99% of guitarists out there, as you say: "DON'T log in to this site, or others..." then how would they know about Billy Blades or any of the other boutique builders out there in the first place? So how would they even think to ask themselves the two questions you stated?

See, nobody would know about those boutique guys unless they're on these forums. And nobody would see Billy Blades' shoddy work unless they're on these forums. You think there are non-forum people out there who have ever heard of Billy Blades? And even if they have, you think they've heard of Henning? I doubt it.

How would someone come to the conclusion that "those forum builders are idiots" unless they've been on the forum in the first place? If they've never been on this (or any other) forum, then they wouldn't know about Billy Blades, or Cameron, or DAR in the first place. So again... I doubt any reasonable person is going to look at Billy Blades and generalize about every other builder out there. Because they only people who would know about it at all, are on the forums. And they're seeing what the rest of us are seeing.

I would not worry Steve. As soon as we stop bumping up old blades threads the sooner he will go away. He is something best forgotten about. Personally, a sick individual such as Billy should be permanently hospitalized. We made fun of him,taunted him as he did us. We should consider how clinically sick he is.
