Yeah, it definitely won't be good for business down the line.. that picture of the transformer hanging over the side is the smoking gun in this case and it will make future buyers hesitant to pull the trigger. Would have been smarter to iron things out in private and not have this come to light. Then, of course, following up with an inspection of amps that are for sale to ensure they meet aesthetic and acceptable noise expectations of potential customers.... also consider that the flaws make it harder to resell the amp!

I would be 100% in Jerry's corner (regardless of how distasteful anybody may find his emails, etc) if he had delivered an acceptable product..."not bonding" wouldn't be a legitimate complaint. Unfortunately, the issue here goes beyond function...an amp was shipped that clearly had some QC/cosmetic issues, which should remove any conversation centered around a return policy. Getting a defective product (whether it be cosmetics or construction) is ALWAYS a reason for a full refund regardless of policy.

Jerry, you've been a decent guy for the most part but you're simply in the wrong in this case. Additionally, you've just effectively crippled any business that you may have gotten from the forums. I hope you can overcome it, but you've got some serious damage control to do.

Bad idea to post his this story and Mark's name. The transformer shoe-horned in like that makes the amp look poorly planned and executed. I don't think anybody would be satisfied with something that looks cobbled together out of spare parts.

I'd say, above all, this is a matter that should have been resolved privately. Publicly naming & shaming customers on a popular gear forum is a real faux pas, particularly if the facts are not absolutely solid.
While i'm sure the OP makes decent products & has a reputable business (despite the obvious cosmetic flaws with this order), it's difficult not to sympathize with the customer in this instance.

If I were the OP, I'd try to take some positives from all this. It reveals cracks in the business & customer service models that can only be improved on.

Bottom line is Jerry sent something out that was GROSSLY DEFECTIVE....NEVER should have left his shop. Everything that goes out your door is representative of your finest work....so the crappiest thing you send out is the best your reputation will EVER be...and now anytime anyone see's something of Jerry's for sale it will IMMEDIATELY be suspect. If he is ok with sending out a new amp in that condition I can't imagine what else is floating around....I just can't begin to understand how he would let it go out the door looking like that and even begin to imagine it wasn't coming back...I would guess thesis why he even OFFERED the refund...he KNEW he was in the wrong when he boxed it up.

It would be one thing if Mark posted it up....if I was Jerry I would have been worried about it getting made public since he had the amp back (could have just kept it quiet and no one would have been any wiser)....but for him to post it up himself???? Dude, you are a few bricks shy of a load when it comes to business sense if we are being honest here....or were you hoping that Mark already deleted his photo's of it and you wanted to try and run the moral high ground saying he sent it back cuz he didn't "bond" with it???? Its OBVIOUS why he sent it back....your lucky Mark was as nice as he was honestly...if it was most of us, we would have taken pictures, sent the amp back, did a reverse charge via paypal and told you to go screw yourself....

the P.T not fitting right is because he got a free O.T. upgrade ( Plexi Spec) and I had to switch spots. to me those tabs are trivial but, to each his own. I have a couple other customers who i also did the upgrade for and told them about the tabs. No problem.

Anyways like I said I value your opinions no matter what.. Lesson learned, thank you for the input.

Well....let me add a little to the situation. I bought this amp from Jerry when it was returned. I didn't know the situation surrounding the amp and to tell the truth, I didn't care. Theres two sides to every story and rarely do they match. Yes the transformer tabs were bent a little over the chasis. At the price I got it for it didn't bother me a bit. It was shipped in a black headshell at my request. I'm not a purple kinda guy. It fits perfectly. Myabe the purple shell was smaller?? The amp doesn't have an excessive amount of hiss or noise unless you dime the gain. ( I like the gain around 10-10:30) but I don't know of any high gainers that aren't noisey when dimed. I will tell you I absolutely love the tone of this amp! Its is freakin loud but I love it. Played a halloween gig with it saturday night and it rocked! Lots of complements on my tone. All i know is I have a helluva an amp for not a lot of money. Jerry was fair with me on this deal. And I'm sure Marks a good dude too. Obviously they disagree on the situation.

Having said all of that...its a bit odd that a small buisness guy would post this on a message forum. Not a good plan really. Looks like Mark got his money back. And maybe this won't hurt buisness too bad at surreal (but my gut is that it will.) And I have an amp that kicks ass! My wizard has been my main stay for a while. My surreal is creeping up on it fast.

Would just be a matter of swapping out the transformer for the original one that fits properly. Jerry, if the upgraded tranny doesn't fit like that, why not just drill new mounting holes in the chassis so the tranny fits properly? Or modify the tabs on the tranny?

the exact amp is in the hands of another guy here who is very happy with it so no need to salvage. It has a lot of cool features and upgrades. In fact I took another order last night and have the money available to pay mark. If he could have either waited just a little longer OR perhaps called me to discuss whats going on.

And BTW, this amp was damaged in ship. Buyer gave me no opp to look it over. Both masters were jacked and the clipper circuits attached to them were jacked up causing noise. I have shipped basically in triple boxes and still have things damaged by fed ex and the like. They throw shit. All new headboxes are all one inch deeper to accommodate either location for either P.T. or O.T.



Its all good. My mistake. I'll take my lumps. My bad.

Did Mark know about the transformer not being compatible up front?

If so then shame on mark, if not then sorry Jerry you should have been upfront, maybe a yes I can do the upgrade but this is how the transformer will look.

PS....I have worked at UPS and Fedex both and people do throw shit..Like seriously no joke. Ive seen people purposely try to break shit because they do not like their job and I have rcvd several shipments from UPS damage.
