Has anyone considered that maybe Bruce just doesnt want to actually build amps anymore? The first line of his bio on egnateramps.com says 'Bruce’s grandfather, Ed Kreske, once told him “Don’t be the guy who digs the ditches, be the guy who makes the shovels.”' Maybe he gets much more satisfaction out of the creative process of designing rather than physically building amps. He has built his company up to a point where he has a production facility that can meet his standards so maybe he feels like he doesnt need to "dig the ditches" anymore. If you dont like it, then dont buy his amps. But if you love the tone and innovation that comes out of his design, buy his amps. No one criticizes Jonathan Ive because the iPods he designed are built in China. Instead his designs get praised as revolutionary. Bruce has a history of pushing the boundaries of tube amp design. I suspect thats where he gets his satisfaction and thats what he wants to focus on because its creatively satisfying and also lucrative with outsourced labor.

Either way its your choice as a consumer. Just like its his choice to run his company how he sees fit.

Excellent post - free Bruce and co. up to design more modules!!

+1000 This is what I have been saying for weeks! I think it is also intended to address the customer service issues.

Personally, I'd rather have the modules and amps NOT built by hand, and built by a robotic line that is WAY more precise and WAY less prone to error vs a human hand, AND an automated QA section that can verify each board is ELECTRONICALLY sound, as well as a human play tester also.

It's more the quality of PARTS and the quality of the design that makes the biggest difference, and less of who is assembling it assuming the assembler is a pro that is.
I agree....You're right on the $$

The shy but pretty girl with the long brown hair
cuts it short, throws in some highlights, and
becomes a class officer.

Some of her old friends moan and swear her off forever.

Some new friends perk up and take notice.

The guy who took her to homecoming two years ago
asks her how she could forget about him so easily
after all he'd done for her over the years.

And in the end... she stands in the mirror at night
and says, "I'm happy."

I just want it to hold it's value.

I think Doubleneck just mentioned what's in the back of our heads, or didn't want to mention.

I remember a time when used modular gear sold almost as fast as you could post it and this was not only when there was a 6 month wait. It took me about 2 weeks sell my MOD 50 and COD for much less than they used to go for. Either the market is saturated or interest has declined. Im not sure which. I suspect that the import line has brought the used prices of the USA gear down.

I agree it will be interesting to see how this news affects the used USA market. It will probably be a sizable move in either direction.

These thoughts did cross my mind which did lead to my decisions to sell the Mod50/100 but the thought of an UPGRADED Mod 100 at a lower cost is well 'HELLO" mind you being of the same quality of components and tranny's and such would make me think my decision to sell them even better,I just bought to new cars,Honda and Toyota :D

Let us not forget the fact that for the last 18+ months, there has been a major economic recession in the USA. Some of us are lucky to still have jobs, but on many of these boards I've read many longtime posters relate very sad stories of being downsized, their wives/partners/parents losing a job, or otherwise having to downsize. For everyone but the rare few who make 100% of their living as musicians, all of this gear is a luxury item, which means that these items are the ones to be cut out or spending reduced as the belt tightens.

This isn't to say that the only reason used prices are dropping is the economy, but never underestimate how important a factor it is.

Thats a good point I forgot about and is definitely a factor.

Got my MOD50 about a month ago. I've played 6 live gigs so far and love it!

I love the tone I get, plus I love the modular concept. I'm sure if Bruce is overseeing the production, the same quality will be there. Looking forward to some more exciting and innovative ideas from Bruce & Co. in the coming months!

I know this is all still new-news, but what might be the time frame for the module transition?
If no new hand-built modules are currently being made at Bruce's shop, I'm guessing that it must be pretty soon.

Congratulations Bruce, everything I have seen and heard about you and your company has always been top of the top. Class deserves success.
