If he didn’t choose the wrong way we could discuss his products seriously.

But with all that china thing, questionable reasoning and marketing, I wouldn’t want to make the guy even a cent richer with my own money.
Unfortunately he went a bit too far in lifting others hard work....it's one thing to take Jose A's designs and copy/build off of, he's long since passed on. But active designs that the original designers are still selling? Nope. Sorry. As nice of a guy as Mike is, that's going too far in my opinion. Then, the China thing, and to top it off, that clown of a 'marketing' guy who used to be on here, Fortin hired him and that was the final straw for a lot of guys. Talk about alienating his prime buyers. Sheesh.

For me, the issue was marketing a new, original, Fortin-built/designed amp with 4 gain stages. And then discovering it was a hastily slapped together JCM800 clone with diodes that's been well-known for 40 years, outsourced to a third party who had coincidentally also built the same circuit for another company years prior.

Not only that, but the schematic for that design was available on every DIY forum for 10 years before Fortin ever started making them. OMG... 800 with diode clipping and 2k7/.68 cathodes, dual gains, and a bright cap. Soooooo revolutionary /sarcasm.

If they had been upfront and honest from the start, it would have been totally different. Don't twist the truth and market something in this way to people who are tech-savvy when it comes to amp circuits. Just be honest. Hey... new amp available that's my take on a hot-rodded 800 with diode clipping. But instead it was a bunch of half truths and some loud-mouth a-hole PR guy.

And for me to ever be interested in another amp from ANY manufacturer in the future, I'm gonna need to know EXACTLY what circuit I'm buying. There hasn't been any real innovation in tube guitar amps for a LONG time. So when you see a new amp come out, 90% chance all you're paying for is branding. Tell me what the circuit is and how it's different/better and maybe I'll be interested. Nobody needs yet another hot-rodded JCM800 with a cool name and controls labeled "thrash" and "squirm" instead of gain or presence.

There was a time I was fan of MF's work.

Then I fell into the trap of a Randall Thrasher. That amp sounded like old dirty buttholes.

Then he gave Toolbag a "marketing" job.

Then my Zuul became a paperweight after a years use. I didn't even bother with trying to get it fixed. It would have been more trouble than it's worth in my estimation.

The clip above doesn't sound much better than a Thrasher. Hard pass.

As attractive as "boutique" gear appears to be, and the high prices associated, I'm more content finding my happiness in common man's gear. It's a lot easier to move on from something when it doesn't work out.

So the guy shat himself in every way possible. Well done lol

You’re on point, my man.

And at least he could do it by himself, not outsourcing to god know who with god knows what quality of work.

Actually if it goes like that, I will sell my house, buy every “unobtainium” amp on the market, reverse engineer it to the tiniest nuances with guys who know tech side well and just make all those schematics available for people to build for themselves.

Fuck that marketing and crazy prices. That is too much even for USA wages, let alone ours.

The “Fortin” period around here probably 15 years ago now was just brutal
Yes, I have heard of that, even though never witnessed myself.

Why guys just can be like Mike Soldano, for example? Consistent through the years, no bullshit, solid quality and delivery times afaik.

So many guys that gained some traction with quite interesting products fucked up everything. Be it Cameron, Vik, Strandberg with their god awful asian bullshit for the price of a US made guitar, Blackmachine with suddenly a fucker believes too much in himself and charging a car price for a sleek ibanez level guitar, Fartin being lazy even to do his ripped circuits by his own hands at sustainable quantities.

Seems like guitar/music industry have too high percentage of fucked up people trying to do business.

Man, if I win lottery, all these guys getting fucked hard. I will spectral analyse the fuck out of their work and share it for free.

Too late.

:ROFLMAO:

I won’t be the first, I agree, but I would make it available for free. Not start a company selling copies assembled in china 😂
All the schematics are out there to be had.

There's nothing new under the sun.

You might have to ask around for certain, obscure things.. but it's all already out there.

I am not even remotely a tech guy, but when I was reading about IIc+ there was literally no reliable schematic I could find.

Maybe I know too little, but my intentions are quite noble lol

Make a few contacts on the forums FourT6 mentioned earlier..

You'll have enough schematics to ride out the zombie apocalypse.

It really had nothing to do with fortin himself or his not yet known business practices back then, he wasn’t any kind of big name yet, it was his annoying group of followers that would turn every thread regardless of topic into Fortin chat and it just got out of hand

Oh, that. I see. Just your average fanboys then. Just like me with IIc+ lol

Oh, I need to delve deeper it seems. Dunno where to start though.

Larry has been quiet. Not seen him much on here . I wish I could get my amp now lol

The only thing similar but to a much lesser level recently would be “1985 guy” being brought up everywhere you look but that has died off for the moment thankfully, and I love 1985 guy lol
