I have to ask, as I have looked into patents before...why do amp builders not patent their circuits? Is there something about it that either makes it impossible or unrealistic?

Patents cost money and time/paperwork to file. However, to enforce them requires lawyers, because you have to take someone to court for patent infringement, at which time you really have to defend that your patent was reasonable. Having it isn't any guarantee.

In general, IP law works to protect large companies because it all takes deep pockets to protect your IP. It's pretty easy for a small business to bankrupt themselves trying to defend their own legitimate IP.

In the engineering world, you "steal everything not nailed down" from your competitors. Constant innovation is required for that reason, as you mainly depend on getting there first to establish product and brand recognition. To my mind, there's a bit of a "gentleman's agreement" in the small amplifier world to only borrow so much from other people. I respect this, but it really isn't how the bigger engineering world works.

Nah. Less than 10 people. Not worth it. I love what I do, and truly have no interest in changing it because a couple nameless/faceless people on the internet hate their lives. These people eventually get bored and realize that no one takes them seriously. I just keep a little folder of all the threats and nonsense saved. Isn't it insane to think about? People go on crusades and tangents, making shit up, attacking people, etc, over things they have no knowledge or experience about and will never meet, and for what? Nothing.

As far as shitty for everyone goes, it isn't shitty for us at all. We have tons of satisfied customers because we make and deliver a great product with great customer service. What Larry here doesn't realize is that no one is interested in paying 6k for an amp that will take years to build and they may never get. His nonsense simply is telling people that if they want his stuff, go to Fortin, more inexpensive, faster and quality. He literally is bringing us customers. Another thread like this, the OP actually reached out to us and decided to get on the EP waiting list, because of this type of behavior. This guy talks out of both sides of his mouth and he is just shooting himself in the foot. In the same sentence he says something is an exact clone and then that it sounds nothing alike in the slightest. Which is it?

In all seriousness, I can't find much info about how to order, price, when it would be delivered, etc. So, sure sleep all day and night if you want, but if one were to plunk down more 5k- which is a low guess- that person deserves a product within a reasonable time frame commiserate with competing amp builders. As genuis as the amp design may be, I'm not on board with the possibility of 12+ months going by while you hold the cash. Others can take the risk and wait in hopes of the gold tone. I guess this model works for you....but your end result is the opposite- I'm even more interested in the Pumpkin now.

So yeah, you would feel differently if you had to deal with a few dudes in their basements, with no sex life or life at all for that matter, constantly attacking you all over the internet. Sometimes you just get tired of the trash, and the trash needs to be reminded how badly they stink.

But maybe if all this is happening you should consider alternative employment. If I had people stalking me to some degree or another, getting trash sent to my wife, I would look for a new job.

If my business life was affecting my personal life like from what I gather (if I am correct it seems to), I would be out the door.

Nah. Less than 10 people. Not worth it. I love what I do, and truly have no interest in changing it because a couple nameless/faceless people on the internet hate their lives. These people eventually get bored and realize that no one takes them seriously. I just keep a little folder of all the threats and nonsense saved. Isn't it insane to think about? People go on crusades and tangents, making shit up, attacking people, etc, over things they have no knowledge or experience about and will never meet, and for what? Nothing.

As far as shitty for everyone goes, it isn't shitty for us at all. We have tons of satisfied customers because we make and deliver a great product with great customer service. What Larry here doesn't realize is that no one is interested in paying 6k for an amp that will take years to build and they may never get. His nonsense simply is telling people that if they want his stuff, go to Fortin, more inexpensive, faster and quality. He literally is bringing us customers. Another thread like this, the OP actually reached out to us and decided to get on the EP waiting list, because of this type of behavior. This guy talks out of both sides of his mouth and he is just shooting himself in the foot. In the same sentence he says something is an exact clone and then that it sounds nothing alike in the slightest. Which is it?

I respect your opinion and I rarely visit forums anymore, but this one I felt the need to drop some reality into, since I have been a member at least a decade. This stuff doesn't hurt us at all, it actually m.h literally is making us sales and getting hundreds of views on our videos. So I hope they keep going. ???

Poor try. It is Larry saying the circuits that have literally been published for decades in books are his. They are not. What I said, is that Larry is doing nothing but give intelligent people reasons not to buy his amps, but by saying Fortins are "clones" that they actually can get, faster and for half the price, he is sending those people to us. See, outside of a very, very, VERY small minority group of people, guitarists want what they want, and they aren't sitting there tracing a circuit. They want the tone and features. They don't care that literally every amp on the planet is based on some circuit that has been used before, mainly because they can think logically. Larry here is sending us customers, that then hear the amps and decide they love them, they will work for what they need, and don't care what 4 dudes on a forum say. So no, I never said anything like that. What I did say, is Larry is advertising for us, and he literally is. There is not a single amp on the planet that doesn't share DNA with something else. Not one. It is all about finding who can tweak and engineer amps based on similar circuits to what you as the player want and like. That is why it is so mind-boggling to see people so concerned with what is inside the amp. Larry isn't inventing anything, he is claiming circuits that someone else invented as his own. Now, has he built something cool off of those? Absolutely. Same as every amp designer and builder on the planet has done. This isn't rocket science. They are all, at their very base, based on old radio circuits.

Edit: Case in point, the comment right before this by Ray. I have gotten no fewer than 30 emails/PMs from this thread alone saying the same thing. The dude is shooting himself in the foot.

As far as the advice people are giving Larry, it's his business. Life is not about money. I am sure Larry could build more if he wanted to.

Personally, I could make more money if I wanted to, but I don't. Money is not everything. I like to be able to have free time to play guitar a few hours a day and spend time with my daughter and family. So on a side note, I respect a man who doesn't grind his life away and does other things.

The only thing that I have learned from this thread is that with the PR that is going on with engage757 I would be less likely to buy a Fortin. That is simply the way the conversation is being handled
