Holy SHIT. Steve great review. Looks like I need to get off the pot and throw down the $'s and pick one up. Thank you for the insights! Oh, and what kind of spkrs do you have in the VHT?
mike

They are the VHT P50E speakers.
I usually find that the VHT cabs don't sound the best with other brands other than VHT. But I was pleasantly surprised.
Gainfreak nailed it when he said...
Steve, stand here...it sounds like a freakin violin...
Super tight bottom and crystal clear.
Steve

Peter I've never said nothin bad about the jvm, I have said all along that its a nice amp, but because I didn't like it as much as my splawn and sold it carl has been starting shit with me. Maybe he's had too many dicks in the ass and they rotted his brain. He acts retarted these days, but what should I expect from a old burnt out homo that has sperm on his teeth. He's part of the amp of the month club. And he's a homo, everybody in long island knows he takes it in the ass. he's a shit talker that has no backbone. This old faggot likes to start with anybody who disagrees with him. I'm not at all scared of him and I would love to meet him in person and see if he's as tuff as he talks.

My main cab for a few years now.
I got a Mojo-built Marshall slant 4X12 with the '68 specs.
It came with G12H-30's. A few years ago I thought I blew one of the speakers and put 4 Tonkers in. There wasn't any huge change in tone with the Tonkers in it and they handle 150 watts apiece...

You didn't notice much change in tone between Tonkers and G12H30's??? I didn't care for the Tonkers for anything except cleans...I found they were just too efficient for distorted tones. I find the G12H's (I actually have Hellatone30's) to be much warmer with more emphasis on the lower mids. IMHO, the Tonkers have a real even EQ to them...very neutral. Maybe the Hellatones being broken in are the difference...I had a bitch of a time breaking in the Tonkers. (In fact, I doubt that I did break them in...damn they're powerfull.)

:|::QBB: Totally aggressive tight and fast. This sounds amazing at lowest volumes as well. i have been playing on Koch, Soldano, VHT and Diezels the last few years and NOTHING sounds like a Marshall like a Marshall does. Well, Soldano is real close. :D
Damn, I was hoping you were going to say slow and spongy. I was going to wait out my gas until they start selling cheaper on ebay. Doh!!!

I haven't seen much written about the attack and feel. Is it spongy like older Marshalls? Or, aggressive like the newer ones?

Funny you should ask....
It can do both.
Clean can be dialed in from sparkling clean(green), low volume Plexi(orange) and cranked Plexi (red).
Crunch takes you from there to a hot rodded JCM800...It nails tones like ACDC etc...
Then OD1 can be dialed in with some sponge and sag, or can be dialed in super tight. It all depends on how you have the EQ, presence and resonance knobs set.
Like I said, the OD1 in orange mode has more than enough gain to do the tightest heavy music..
Then OD2 is a much tighter, modern channel with a certain scoop to the frequencies, but it does not loose the midrange definition.
The amp gives out what you put in, and responds very very well to the guitars pickups and volume knob.
My Suhr and Ralphs GMW sounded like completely different animals through the same amp....
The guy who designed this amp had the gear junky in mind while building it. He thought of every feel possible and nailed it.
I'm still shocked at how great the response and clarity from the amp is. And the fact that you can take a single channel and mode and make it do super tight to saggy is amazing...

But you gotta hear what Ralphie laid down last night....
That fucker is simply amazing and humble.
I'll post up a clip once I mix it down a bit....

Hey Steve, where are the pics? :)
We need updated pics of your 'room o' tone'!

PS-Can't wait to see how you compare it to the new VHT Sig amp.

Well, my modded Fuchs TDS and a new toy from VHT will be here soon....I'll post a pic when everything is in it's place :D

Nice!
Which toy are you getting the SigX or that poweramp??

Whoa, why the sudden attack on ZAO? I didn't catch any sarcasm on his comment at all, all I read was that he thinks Steve should've gotten oen for free because how efficiently he got all those amps into people's hands and made his dealer a good chunk of change, plus he did all the footwork himself pretty much. If anything he was giving Steve props for his hard work, I didn't catch any sarcasm there at all.

Nope. I had to make NO adjustments to any head I played thru the cab when I switched to the Tonkers.
That's why the Tonkers are in there. High power and even EQ.
I don't like low wattage speakers especially iwith high gain amps.

Fair enough...I have a hard time bonding with my Tonkers...I wound up putting 2 of them in an open back 2x12...strictly for jazz and clean stuff. For me, they have too flat of an EQ curve (to my ears...not necessarily on paper), and never felt "warm" to me...if that makes any sense.

Why is there so much HC-type drama in this thread???

 Kinda fucked up. I think it's fucking retarded to treat this whole thing like a competition anyawy. I'm anxious to try out a JVM, and after reading Steve and Ralph's reviews I'm wanting one even more. I'll probably still keep my Bogner, Splawn, Mesas, and all of my other Marshalls when I get one though.

I have always thought and still think that Zao is a very cool dude. I just think that everyone read to much into what he was saying.

As far as the JVM vs Splawn thing, It's always going to be a matter of preferance. I have been guilty of getting into the Vs war so I promised myself that I wont do it anymore lol :D That said, I am just glad that there are so many great amps out now that you can choose from. When I was a kid, You had very little in the way of options.
The only thing controversial that I will say...is ......if you are a guitar player in this day and age and you get a bad tone, You are either retarded or tone deaf :hys:

Preach, brother Ralph. As much as I love my Quickrod, you helped me take it to another level. That's the problem I have with you...you have too much "cred", i.e., your ear is so friggin good... and anything you like, I'm sure I'd like it too. :D
