Guthrie Govan moves to Charvel!!! Pic inside!

The Charvel in the pic with Govan has truss rod adjustment at the neck heel, without removing the neck. It's like what's on Peavey and EVH Wolfgangs.

Sorry I have several Charvels but I'll take my Suhrs any day. Can't believe in 2012 I have to take the neck off the guitar to adjust it. In my climate its a problem and to me rediculous lack of ingenuity to not have some way to adjust the truss rod on these guitars. Makes it clearly an inferior instrument to me.

i'm holding my breath and opinions on this until we hear from GG himself, but i can't help but be a little worried about what happened here.

Yeah me too, sorry but there's no way I see this as a step up for GG. Although I'm sure he could play a cheap import and kick butt with it.

the only thing i can think is that maybe he got tired of doing the suhr clinics. he swapped over to the axe fx a little while ago, and i figured that was to help him move around the world without fear of different amps. now this. who knows? i'm very intrigued to say the least.

Confirmed over at TGP:

Well believe it! I just found out last week oddly enough.
It didn't have anything whatsoever to do with displeasure in our instruments. He was very happy with the gear.
I wish him the best, he is a very talented musician and deserves success.
We will continue to offer the models and features he played just sans any signature.

John Suhr

Guthrie is a great player but he doesn't have any music I care to hear more than twice. I doubt Suhr is losing any sleep.

Crazy to see Guthrie with Charvel and leaving Suhr. That being said, I can't wait to see what the next GG Signature guitar will be.

The guy has some amazing knowledge of the instrument, but the solo stuff is mostly boring to me...I'd rather him put more blues and soul into what he does than the shred and quirky guitar tricks.

I thought his Suhr signatures were some of the coolest. I think it was John Suhr's favorite tone wood combination.

There is a way to adjust the truss rod on a Charvel without taking the neck off. You just have to order it the right way. Costs an extra $40.

i would take a suhr over a charvel any day of the week but if charvel would just make better production models i would be happy. and yes the guitar needs a truss rod adjustment!

Charvel, Suhr, Anderson, Vigier, Carvin, Tyler, ESP, BC Rich and the list goes one for great super strats. One isn't better than the other, its all personal preference. I like J/C stuff, but I've played many great guitars. Suhr isn't better, just different. the same goes for the rest of the companies.

I owned a couple of gorgeous Suhr's and they are outstanding guitars.

But for my hands, the Charvel Custom Shops are a better fit. Of course everyone will have their own ideas, but I think for $900 the Charvel Pro Mods were as good as it gets. I really didn't feel like I was missing anything with the Charvel Pro Mods when I recorded these:

I'm sorry I post these videos all the time in response to "you can't play solos on a Splawn" comments or remarks from a forum guy about how the Pro Mods just aren't good enough for them.

The heel truss rod wheel is an option on Charvels. Curt set me up with one awhile back.

(oops, I see he already chimed in, but yeah, it's an option).

i'm working on an aristocrats show later this month, see what shows up on the day =)

I have to somewhat disagree with that statement. Personal preference is one thing, but the level of attention to detail and the quality of the the woods and components is not subject to opinion...and there are differences among those builders you just listed.

That said, the Charvel Custom Shop seems to have gotten it together after a rough start and their guitars can easily hang with the best. Even so, I would have to believe that this move for GG has more to do with finances than guitars.

I'm sure he will be just fine with his inferior Charvel...

If anybody feels they are slumming and unable to play as well with their Charvels, you can donate them to my charity for unloved guitars

Really, how much "redesigning" goes on with all these similar super strat guitars ? What did they do now, move the volume knob 2mm downwards ?
