Guthrie Govan moves to Charvel!!! Pic inside!

Ironically enough, when I think "solidbody koa superstrat" the first manufacturer that comes to mind is Suhr.

All the discussion going on is pure speculation. Nobody other than Guthrie - including, by the looks of it, John Suhr - knows why he has been playing a Charvel at gigs and clinics this week.

It is what it is. I just read in last month's Guitarist how GG was so stoked on Suhr guitars, and that he felt "out of place" with a beautiful flame top custom Suhr when he looks more like hobo boat dreck. But all the accolades as to them being the best guitars he's ever played, etc. etc. etc.

Amazing what a bit more grease in the hand will do to such strong convictions.

Good for Charvel, good for GG. I'm sure Suhr will be fine.

I may be biased, but Suhr >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Charvel.

(DISCLAIMER: different strokes for different folks etc etc etc).

even a few feet from Michael Sweet and he STILL looks like a nerd..

Confirmed by John... :(

Yes it is true as I have learned early this week after their first show.
No bad blood between us at all, I wish Guthrie all the best success.
Guthrie loved his instruments and we continue to make everything he used sans signature. This was purely about business, thats all.

Did GG bail without so much as a conversation with John about it?

From Suhr himself over on HRI:

No problems whatsoever between Guthrie and me.
Also .... Absolutely no problems with his neck as I have heard for a reason he used the Charvel and wanted no pictures. I didn't find out until Monday morning which is more likely the reason for no pics.
Guthrie liked his instruments and amps we made. We also supported the record and made that possible.
We wish him the very best in his pursuits, he certainly deserves success no matter how he finds it.
This was purely about business.

Naturally everything we did for him was already on our options list so you are all free to still order those guitars, just no signature. Life is good (great actually) so don't worry, this is going to be an amazing year for us so be happy and play your dam guitars, write some songs !

I know who helped design his new Charvel ;) .

John Suhr?

no. :)

John makes great guitars by the way. And amps/pedals/accessories. Suhr has grown to be one of the bigger players in the industry. That isn't luck.
I know ;) not hard to figure out.
Strange that help was needed though.
Well.... I wish Guthrie the best of luck, he certainly deserves success.

As do you. You make some of the best guitars out there. The amps/pedals/accessories are icing on the cake. One of the best cleans ever on your CAA OD-100. I heard Trisha Lurie live with one of your hand built amps and it was amazing. Wishing you continued success.

I don't think GG's move will hurt John's business in the least. Quality products will always get the notoriety they deserve.

Same with my Standard...not to mention that I was blown away by the service I got from Noel with my CAA 2x12 cab.

Found live video of it in action...

love the sound of that sax.

very refreshing to my ears after beating them to death with overly distorted guitar tones....i didnt particularly really love the over wanking/chicka chicka while the sax guy was trying to play a solo....great guitar tones though...

some of it i just didn't really get what was going on there though....as if it ALMOST got to where they wanted it, but it wasn't coming together.

i'd like to see these guys live though....something about the controlled chaos that i like, even though it's not pleasant on the ears at times.

i would take a suhr over a charvel any day of the week but if charvel would just make better production models i would be happy. and yes the guitar needs a truss rod adjustment!

I owned a couple of gorgeous Suhr's and they are outstanding guitars.

But for my hands, the Charvel Custom Shops are a better fit. Of course everyone will have their own ideas, but I think for $900 the Charvel Pro Mods were as good as it gets. I really didn't feel like I was missing anything with the Charvel Pro Mods when I recorded these:

I'm sorry I post these videos all the time in response to "you can't play solos on a Splawn" comments or remarks from a forum guy about how the Pro Mods just aren't good enough for them.

great tone
great playing

these types of videos inspire me!

quick question....both guitars...same pickup?
sound like a jb in the bridge to me?

what neck pickups in each?

Funny pics! Personally I was never into the Modern shape of Suhrs and thus not really into the GG model but the man can play that's for sure!
