Charvel, Suhr, Anderson, Vigier, Carvin, Tyler, ESP, BC Rich and the list goes one for great super strats. One isn't better than the other, its all personal preference. I like J/C stuff, but I've played many great guitars. Suhr isn't better, just different. the same goes for the rest of the companies.

I guess one could argue this round and round because it's indeed so subjective, but I really can't put BC Rich, Charvel, or Carvin in with the others, and that's after owning and/or playing all of them.

Agreed.

This Charvel Custom Shop (Mahogony w/ maple cap) has been my main guitar since I purchased it from Steve about 6 months ago (thanks again  ). Just can't put it down. The quality and asthetics can't get much better either, IMO. The ONLY thing I'm not 100% gel'ing with is the neck pick-up, doesn't seem to have much life and character. Don't mean to derail the thread but any suggestions for a replacement?

1. That guitar is badass as all fuck.

2. Hot Rails. Seriously the best sounding single coil sized neck pickup I have ever used. I have one in my Robin Tedley and it rules.

Charvels are so ugly/bland compared to Suhrs, quality aside. It seemed like Suhr was treating him incredibly well all this time, and there must not have been any sort of contract since the move was a surprise to John Suhr himself... strikes me as a little harsh.

The Charvels are pretty straightfoward. Never really seen an ugly one.

I'm off Suhr guitars after owning quite a few. From ones that sounded thin and like plastic, to a Scott Henderson model that got smoked in tone by a Fender American Standard, to a 4K Modern that was impossible to do a simple truss rod adjustment. never again

There are such a wide variety of options, woods, finishes, etc available from Charvel that essentially allow the buyers to spec out damn near anything they want, including a balls-on copy of any Suhr appointments and finish...your comment has no basis in reality. What is bland about the guitar nevusofota posted above? You may not like it, but to call it bland is just silly.

The other thing to keep in mind is to compare apples to apples. Certainly most Suhrs will smoke a Charvel Pro-Mod or an old Model Series (both of which are great bang-for-the-buck players) as far as fit, finish, and wood quality are concerned. You need to be looking at the Custom Shop instruments to make any type meaningful comparison.

I personally like and own both...I'm more about the instrument itself rather than the name on the headstock.

agree with the guy above. guitars are wood, and thats that lol.

regardless of what guthrie is playing, i've had a small interest in charvels recently, but its hard to find one that will work for what i need - non floyd, HH, vol/tone. in terms of the custom shop, are they just as expensive as equally equipped suhrs?

You could stand to be less rude. Charvels generally do not catch my eye the way many Suhr do, and that's ALL I meant by that comment. Jeez.

I really don't see how what he said is rude, he's 100% right.

Pretty sure that's Oz Fox - Stryper.

#1 the shit tool they give you that could never get a good grip.
#2 the amount of torque needed to move (tighten) the thing would have required a sledge hammer.

Hmm, Suhr is known for great customer service, did you send it back?

No, I wasn't sending a 4K guitar from Long Island to Ca. over a too tight truss rod. I sold it. I still like Suhr guitars but I'm damn wary cause of that one incident. My Suhr GG was perfect, btw. Awesome guitar

Ps, on the Moderns w/ a Floyd, the tool they give you is kinda too short and too small to get a good grip and get adequate tourque to turn the truss rod. They should have a different tool for this
