What band is that with the "Around The World In 30 Days" song? The guy has a really good voice.

That is James Lugo who put this thing together, I believe, talented mofo...

Yeah, James is a vocal coach for american idol I think.

very cool voice

hey James, share with us more of your vocal work man :) I'm a singer myself so I'd appreciate it.

I've only listened to a few all the way through so far, but I must say that you guys did an amazing job!!!!! I own two of the amps you guys tested (Soldano Avenger and a pre-500 Dual Recto), and I have to say your clips were a PERFECT representation of what these amps sound like in person. My Avenger has the Deyoung transformers, so it sounds a bit more like the SLO, but that clip sounded pretty damn close to the Avenger as well. I didn't like Herbert...but I've honestly never been a fan of the Diezel voicing. The Tri-Tone 100 sounded damn good IMO...I bet it would sound even better with a clean boost  . Other amps I liked on first listen: PT100, Stock '74 Superlead and Engl Screamer. I need to finish listening to the rest later...

I liked the SLO, the new XTC, and the Jose. Very nice. Was it me or did the VH4 sound kinda quiet on "around the world in 30 days"? I like the VH4/XTC/SLO best on that song, needs to be up a little more though I think for the VH4, just seems more quiet. Awesome job dude .

Listened to the VH4 again and now it doesn't seem so quiet, that's weird, haha.

Thanks guys, what a great experience. So many great amps.

I just woke up, my left hand is sore, I haven't played for 18 hours straight in a long time.

Peace

i'm sad i didn't go but i had two very tired teenage soccer players with me who after 2 games in moorpark may have been a bit too burnt for a hollywood high gain onslaught then a 2 hour drive back to redlands.

but i actually had my egnater tol 100 in the car just in case!

i was really wanting to bring 5 albino midgets and a goat cause i figured there weren't enough people in the studio :D

just thinking, you should remember the mic position and exact recording config and continue adding to your clip collection over time (cameron, voodoo, wizard, vht, mojave, and aiken come to mind...) and when you have amassed all the biggest baddest around, do a little bit of in house mastering and offer a CD for sale like your pickup dealio.

i agree that even now you have a killer resource that tons of people/builders/dealers would love to get hold of

The VH4 had a pretty soft mid and just sounded more polite then some of the other amps, so it may have sounded lower but it's still pretty loud.

I don't know, maybe I'm just a Bogner guy, but both the 20th Anniversary XTC and Twin Jet Uberschall sounded the best to me. The XTC just sounded so thick and chewy!!!

Everything sounded fantastic, not really a bad amp amongst them. Even the amps that aren't really to my taste sounded great (Eg Boogie Rectifier which really surprised me with a Tele playing over the Comfortably numb progression )

The Jose Marshall was my favourite followed closely by the Marsha,PT100 (which sounded terrific double tracked on Around the world in 30 days) and Shiva.

Now, gotta get about finding myself a Jose modded Marshall....

Thanks guys, it was an amazing turn out. We had so many talented amp guys and musicians on hand. For me the Marshall's ruled. We shotout the first 5 or 6 amps and I started to lose perspective, hearing so many different unfamiliar amps in my studio. So I wanted to get perspective back so we threw my '71 Marshall up and with the first chord it just slayed everything we had just heard. Just my opinion but everyone in the room gasped on the first chord of the '71. It felt right and sounded familiar. It sounded like a record.

But so many amps did so great to my ears;

-Mesa Dual Rec was enormous
-Sovtek had the coolest sound, I want one!!!
-Marsha was massive and everyone had so much fun playing it
-Tritone is a new company but really sounded fabulous
-a lot of us in the room really dug the 20th Anniversary XTC
-the Soldano's crunched really nice
-both Diezels sounded really killer in person, almost God like when you stand in front of them

To me the '71 Marshall Super Tremolo (Friedman modded) was my favorite, it's also my personal amp but I'm honestly not being biased. I just felt the vocal sat most comfortably in the mix with that amp, some of the amps have such a hot/wet midrange that they fight the lead vocal but the '71 is perfect. It was intense but welcoming, a very slippery slope sonically that the '71 rules. They will bury me with that amp in my coffin.

The Jose was killer, so bright. We had the treble and the presence on 0, I'm not kidding. Not sure if I could get either my '76 or '71 that bright to sound like the Jose by turning up their treble and presence. I don't usually play or record that bright anyway, especially in digital. To me that was a bigger thing with tape to circumvent the lose of high end by the time mixing came, kind of thinking ahead. But overly bright guitars in digital can be ear splitting.

What a great day guys, I'm beaming today and the fact that everyone enjoyed it and it was such a success does my heart good. Listen to the clips and go crazy.

James

On the first clip now of the 71 ST.....FUCK YA BALLS TO THE WALLS sounds freaking incredible!!!!!!!! I needs for Super Leads!

Many thanks James, I do not know of another way to demo 35 of the best high gainers on the planet!

I checked out Tritone's website and only found a few sound clips. Can you or the builder PM me with pricing and options? That amp sounded GREAT

I haven't seen the videos yet, I just put up #5, f**kin killer. The Uberschall sounds insane! Old Reinhold is a trip, I was so grateful for him to come and stay so long. Videos of him dialing in his own amps are very cool. The Uber and XTC are really special amps.

F me I am still totally burnt. Thanks James

Your Marshalls kick ass Dave! That 71 is one special sounding amp.

James...that was the coolest thing EVER! I'm so glad I was able to be part of it, thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into it....you rule. Like you said, this will be referenced for YEARS to come. Plus, everyone there was so cool and it was just great getting to meet everyone and hanging out.

Your '71 Marshall was DEFINITELY my favorite! It just slayed, I'd love to hear it next to my Marshall B.E., just to see how different or not they sound from eachother. I also loved the new XTC, and both Soldanos. So much great stuff, it was unbelievable.

And for the new "dad-to-be"....HAPPY FATHERS DAY! Relax and enjoy your first one!
