I switched it up to go with my Tele for the single coil stuff.

2006 Gibson Les Paul Standard with the WCR American Steele (Crossroads neck, Godwood bridge)
2009 Fender Telecaster with the Lolar Special T's
2009 Gibson Les Paul Traditional with the BK Cold Sweat (bridge), WCR Fillmore (neck)
2005 Gibson Les Paul Special with the BK Rebel Yell (bridge), Gibson 490 (neck)

Found the sweet spot on the Orange cab, the H75/V30 combo is really amazing.

Cool man, how do those speakers compare when not blended?

H75 are thicker, darker and weightier, the V30 bright and a little fizzy but nice sparkle blended with the M75.

Hey James- This sounds like it will be a GREAT shootout! I have one lil suggestion... It would be really cool if there was one 4x12 loaded with some other speakers as well.Since it's a high gain shootout (possibly w/ some drop tunings) Celestion 75watters are good,as are 100 watt celestions (slipknot, etc) Also, maybe a EVM (Zakk Wylde) would be cool. These take massive low end,and stack really well with a vintage30s. You can throw 4 different speakers in a single 4x12 and it sounds great for close micing. Gives you lots of options in the studio.
Just a thought.

Thanks for having this shootout!!

Wow - I wish someone on the east coast would do something like this.
I very much appreciate James' ideas & accomplishments in this regard!
First the PUP Shootout, now the High Gain Amp Shootout (what's coming next ;) ) and I wish, someone here in Germany would arrange something similar! I'd be there - definitely

Larry

A while back we actually had a little HC Ampfest in Hannover. Was a lot of fun and maybe next year after I`m done with Uni I`ll try to organize another one. I`ll let you know in time. :)

Big day today, I'm headin north to Luxxtone to get my Les Special back from Jerry, he put the Fralin P90's in it and my assistants heading to Tone Merchants to pickup the Scumback 4X12 cab (M75's, 65 watt) for the shootout. 8 more days before the amp day!

Just got back from my first lesson with Bruce Bouillet, it was awesome. He is definitely playing at the shootout Saturday, so watch out!!!!

That LP Special sounds badass. Made me get out the ol' LP Jr.. P90's rock.
That amp sounded great too. Regular Plexi reissue. 100 watt? Damn, Friedman knows how to boost the beast and keep it's nature in tact. This is great stuff.

I can see a lot of $$$$ flowing into the economy after this shootout James.

Yup, 100 watts with the Friedman Brown Eye mod. Dave is THE man when it comes to amps and especially Marshalls. That amp still retains all the character and openess of the plexi, but extra gain, extra fat and just sounds huge. Very raw and explosive, which is what I wanted, I'm not into the overly compressed ultra-gain stuff. He put in a resonance knob on the back too for extra low end and balls.

The Fralin P90's we installed into James' LP Special sounded amazing. They're the new Fralin hum-cancelling P90's, the only hum-cancelling ones I have ever liked. They actually sound just like regular P90's. Totally nails that AC/DC, Zeppelin and even Green Day vibe perfectly with the Marshall.

Can't wait until the shootout!

Oh yeah, can't forget about the Scumback speakers in the Bogner cab....they are the secret ingredient! Can't say enough good things about 'em. There will be a cab at the amp shootout with the same speakers...James has got it all covered!

Yeah man those P90's are insane. Great setup on the guitar too Jerry. I played on and off all afternoon, I'm dying to take my rig down to your place, I'm dying to hear it with those high ceilings and bare walls and floor. The studio's cool but with the acoustic treatment you lose that monstrous sound that you have in your big open workshop. Maybe one day we'll load up a truck with my guitar rig and bring it down to your place and declare war on Arcadia.
